RECONNECT | INTENSIFY
This project aims to reconnect and intensify the suburb of Multi-Use Dis-
trict, Christchurch. Located in a commercial zone, it is heavily dominated
by big-box retail stores and seas of car parks. Widely scattered programme
combined with the space-severing nature of the railway that divides the
site causes disconnection to and within the site. The disconnection and
sparsity of programme encourages commuters to drive, and thus the area
is orientated towards cars. 71%of the site is dedicated to cars, in the form
of roads and car parking. Through providing a series of pedestrian net-
works which connect key anchors and inversion of space and programme,
this project aims to reconnect and intensify Multi-Use District and re-ori-
entate the site towards people.
