Student Groups are pretty much the same wherever you go they all want the same things Students want more integration, Digital creation & move away from Office/productivity tools; Assessment data online and SHARED WITH PARENTS;

Access to teachers and peers online; High quality resources

Other interesting points about students:

Internet access largely unmonitored at home; Very prepared for BYOD in fact they demand it Concerned about teacher readiness Older students are not that supportive of GLG young students are strongest supporters, but it declines further up schools tipping point seems to be Y9 Parent Groups are also fairly uniform: Want more data on their children the occasional report will no longer do Want advice on how to engage effectively from a digital perspective Want the ability to know what is going on in the classroom this does not mean CCTV, but more along the lines of tracked syllabi, updates, videos explaining pedagogy used in class Be able to share good ideas with each other Parents in general are pro BYOD the most positive groups have been at the lower end of the market. Premium parents are positive, but feel that the cost

needs to be justified. Teacher groups are similar: resourcing - GEMS wide repository of teacher created content; Access to student data across the board be able to use systems diagnostically Auto-assessment where possible. Online systems to assess where this is not possible Social media style system akin to Facebook to aid in familiarity Teachers have PD & BYOD concerns.
Content: Schools recommendations? - PR Phil has been working on trials of espresso in some schools. Will be getting feedback soon. Trying to do some collective bargaining with suppliers. Schools have a look at budgets and subscriptions etc and let him know of anything you are wanting that he may not know about. He will make contact with suppliers for collective deals. Its much more cost effective. Once decisions are made about purchasing and pricing. Schools will still be able to decide whether or not they want to participate in the collective purchase.

Maker day WIS are organizing this to be held at DSO registrations close next week. Phil has already emailed you the details. Website link and registration form links are included. It is vital that your role as hub leader informs you of all digital learning aspects in your school. We rely on you to be able to communicate with us so we can better support you but you need to be informed to do this. For the next meeting we will be asking the host school to present a brief overview of blended learning / flipped learning / or BYOD strategies in their school. Student survey has been closed and about 4,000 student participated. Because of the sheer numbers its taking a while to extract the data. At first we will do an analysis of all students . Once this is complete we will filter out the responses school by school and get the data graphed for those schools that participated. http://gemslg.com/main/bp/best _practice
