Dear Sirs

Further to our previous conversation, please find enclosed

information requested regarding the automobile specification and
performance testing which should be treated as commercial in
confidence and not passed on to any third party. Please quote Our
Ref on all correspondence.

The automobile has the following specifications:

2007 Cadillac CTS

Weight, m: 1592 kg
Frontal area, A: 2.581 m2 (Approximated)
Drag coeff, Cd: 0.31
Wheel radius, Rw: 0.34m
Torque @ engine RPM: 263.1 Nm @ 3200
Transmission efficiency, η: 80%
Final Drive Ratio, FDR: 3.42
Gear ratios, G: 1st – 4.15
2nd – 2.33
3rd – 1.53
4th – 1.15
5th – 1.00
6th – 0.79

The tests to be carried out are:

For Part 1 of the Project Description:

Test 1: To model the performance of a car in a single gear, at

arbitrary throttle settings, and also going up and down hills.
In particular, undertake the following tests (at full throttle
unless otherwise indicated) :
• 1st gear, time from 0 to 40 km.hr-1, level ground, also 5%
uphill slope, 10% downhill slope
• Top gear, time from 0 to 100 km.hr-1, level ground, also 5%
uphill slope, 10% downhill slope
• Top gear, % throttle to maintain 100 km.hr-1, level ground,
also 5% uphill slope, 10% downhill slope
• Top gear, find maximum speed level ground, also 5% uphill
slope, 10% downhill slope

Test 2: To model the performance of a car including gear changes.

• Time from 0 to 100 km.hr-1, level ground, using optimal gear

changes
• Time to travel 400m (standing start), level ground, using
optimal gear changes

For Part 2 of the Project Description:

• As in the project description

Please could you provide us with the test results (You are
welcome to try additional tests and add these to you report) in
full written report by 5pm 26th Feb 2007 comprises the following:

1. A description of your mathematical model of the car,

including the major assumptions about your model, and how
these might affect the accuracy of the model. [15 marks]

2. A description of your Simulink model of the car, including

a block diagram of the model. In your model, describe what
inputs and outputs to your system are, and how you measure
results. [15 marks]

3. An appropriately presented set of results from your

simulations [15 marks]

4. A critical analysis of your results, and a discussion of

most significant improvements that could be made to your
model. [15 marks]

5. Demonstration: At the laboratory session, in week 6, your

company will be asked to demonstrate the operation of your
simulation [30 marks]. (Precise details closer to the time)

6. Creativity [10 marks]

Yours sincerely,
XXX
The Die Namix Director.
