Vocational Welding 1 This course covers the application of gas metal arc welding (MIG) short circuit and spray processes in all positions and the application of the shielded metal arc welding in different joints and all positions is also taught, including the use of a variety of filler metals. Instruction and practice in methods to communicate technical ideas through the use of blueprints are emphasized in this course. Students will develop skill in reading and interpreting blueprint drawings. Instruments are used to make orthographic drawings that accurately describe shape and size, including sketching multi -view, sectional views, auxiliary views and pictorial illustrations. The course is part of the Lakeshore Technical Academy and may count for up to 10 SMC college credits or 3 LMC credits.

An integral and innovative component of the Lakeshore welding program is that students receive instruction in under water welding. By partnering with local business (Seabrex Marine, Under Water Construction Corporation, and Wolfs Marine) the students are provided the opportunity to become PADI open water dive certified. Once certified, the students are able to further develop their underwater welding skills by working with industry professionals in a two story practice dive tank. Currently Lakeshore High School is the only school in Michigan to offer such training. It is one of the Lakeshore Technical Academys missions to place students in high skill, high wage and high demand positions. This program is further strengthened in our local community by partnering with post-secondary education institutions.
Its a once in a lifetime experience!
