Sensor Dimming Systems

Introduction
Welcome to the CEM Configuration Test Manual for Sensor dimming systems. This manuals contains instructions for performing CEM selftests on all Sensor dimming systems using CEM software version 3.0 or later.

Note: If your CEM operating software is an earlier version than 3.0, please contact ETC Technical Services at (+1) 800-775-4382 to obtain an older version of this manual.

How to use this guide

This guide covers both types of Sensor CEM Configuration self-tests, Basic and Advanced.

CEM Diagnostics Tests

The Sensor Control Electronics Module (CEM) diagnostics allow qualified technicians to perform a variety of Sensor troubleshooting and repair operations in the field. There are two levels of CEM diagnostics Basic and Advanced:
M

Basic tests 1 through 9 do not change configuration information stored in CEM memory. Basic tests can be run without fear of system configuration damage.

Note: Some Basic tests set or cycle dimmer outputs. This can interfere with normal DMX512 dimming while the test runs.
M

Advanced tests, number 10 through 43, are intended for use only by factory-trained ETC Field Service technicians. In some cases, these tests may result in damage to your system configuration; running them may require complete reprogramming of your system.

Caution

Do not initiate Advanced CEM tests unless advised to do so by ETC Technical Services at 800/775-4382 or an Authorized ETC representative.

Entering Basic Test mode Select By -, (Enter) 01 Select One Output

Selecting a test
To enter Basic Test mode, reset the CEM by pressing [Reset] while holding down [Dimmer]. Continue to hold [Dimmer] until the following message appears on the CEMs LCD (between 3-4 seconds.) Select One Output is the first of nine basic diagnostics. Press [ ] or [ ] to scroll through the test menus. If you prefer, you can go directly to the test you want to run by entering the two digit self test number. For example, to select test #3, Set All Outputs, press [0], [3], and [Enter]. Press [Clear] at any time to return to test 1. Press [Exit] to quit Diagnostic Test Mode. Test number Test name 01 Select One Output 02 Move One Output Test description Allows you to set dimmers at specified output levels and monitor their feedback values. Dimmers remain at set levels until you clear them. Like Test 1, Test 2 allows you to set dimmers at specified output levels and monitor their feedback values, but in Test 2, setting a dimmer output level immediately clears all other dimmer levels. Allows you to set all dimmers to the same output level. Allows you to monitor dimmer feedback information. Unlike Test 1, it does not allow you to set dimmer output levels. Fades all dimmers from zero to 100 percent output, then from 100 percent to zero. Test repeats until interrupted. Flashes each dimmer one after another. You can set the level at which the dimmer flashes. The sequence continues until the test is stopped. Shows DMX512 input levels being received on port A. Shows DMX512 input levels being received on port B. Fades each dimmer up and down one at a time, then automatically moves to the next dimmer. When each dimmer has been tested, the test sequence stops.

Basic CEM Tests (1-10)

Test 1: Select One Output
This test allows you to set a dimmers output levels while monitoring its feedback values. You can switch tested dimmers using keyboard commands. Dimmer output continues at the set level until cleared. Select Test 1 using [ ] or [ ] or by pressing [0][1] on the CEM keypad. Press [Enter] to begin the test. See Controls and displays for Test 1 and Test 2 , below, for instructions.

Test 2: Move One Output

This test is the same as Test 1, except that dimmer levels are set for one selected dimmer at a time. Setting a level for a new dimmer clears the level setting of the previously selected dimmer. Select Test 2 using [ ] or [ ] or by pressing [0][2] in the CEM keypad. Press [Enter] to begin the test. See Controls and displays for Test 1 and Test 2 , below, for instructions.

Start the tuning process by setting up a volt meter to measure the incoming phase voltage. Then locate the phase 1 (A), phase 2 (B) and phase 3 (C) potentiometers and use a small straight-blade screwdriver to adjust them until the reading on the volt meter matches the voltage levels shown on the CEM LCD. Once the incoming voltage levels match those displayed on the LCD, press [Exit] to return to the test menu.

Note: Phase voltage should be set at exactly 120 VAC.

Test 40: Set Zero Delay (CEM or LCEM only)

This operation allows you to calibrate the zero crossing delay.

Note: Set Zero Crossing delay is only used on UL and Delta versions of the Control Electronics Module. CE versions (ECEM and LECEM) calibrate Zero Crossing automatically.
Use [ ] or [ ] or, press [4] [0] to select the test, then press [Enter] to start the test. If the zero crossing delay is low, the following message appears on the CEM LCD: If the zero crossing delay is high, the following message appears on the CEM LCD: Locate the zero crossing potentiometer on the PCB. (See illustration below.) Use a small, straight-blade screwdriver to adjust zero crossing until the following message appears on the CEM LCD:
