COMMUNITY UPDATES
Matters of the Heart: An evening to celebrate Bendigo Seniors Week
An evening was arranged by the group during the Seniors Week which was celebrated from 10 17th November in Western Australia. This participants of the evening included members from Pakistani, Indian and Sikh community. We requested Sir Muhammad Yaar Khan Azhar to preside the evening. Mr. Nazar Khan facilitated the evening with his eloquence. Muhammad Rizwan presented a Naat after recitation from Saad Saleem to start the evening in the name of Allah and our Prophet (Peace be Upon Him). Hassan Gillani seemed to be the star of the evening with Saad Saleem. Nazar Khan spoke about the PIA as a group followed by Zarrin Siddiqui thanking the funding organisations. The ladies Ashraf Khatoon and Savitri Govasami jee were worth listening and one wonders where these gems are hidden. Savitri Govasami Gee informed the audience that being 84 year old she is the senior most among all that evening. She brought with her a copy of her book Dard Key Rishtey which is published by Mavara publications in Pakistan. Her two literary pieces Meethi Zabaan Urdu and Valentine Day both captivated the audience. Prem Mathur Jee presented verses with Tarannum and informed that Matters of the heart was also the phrase that Hindi Samaaj used when they started their literary evenings. He also suggested for more collaborations. Our friend from PunjabiSaath group Harlal Singh presented Punjabi verses and was much appreciated. Masood Khan spoke briefly about Sir Azhar and Seniors Week. The evening ended with Sir Azhar presenting his poetry and a vote of thanks from M Nazar Khan.

This event is funded through the Bendigo Bank Seniors Week Festival Grants Program 2013, and supported by COTA WA, the Department for Communities and Lotterywest.
