Processed Foods

Common food additives:

Food processing techniques do not just take the nutrients out of food; they also add extra ingredients that can be harmful a persons health!

How we can fix the problem People deserve to know the risk factors associated with their food. A policy that we are trying to implement is a list of risks or side effects associated with the food we receive as consumers. This would be very beneficial to the populous. Just like with any medication, this policy will force corporations to list the potential risks associated with the food product they are giving us. This would help the populous make smarter food decisions and force corporations to produce healthier foods. If there is more smart food decision making, there would be less sickness, obesity, heart problems and cancers in the world.

What if I told you that what you are eating can kill you!
According to Consumer Health Reports, new processing techniques are taking the nutrients out of foods. In a research study conducted by Ann Arbor University, a test was done with rats and how cereal affected them. In one group, rats that were given all the vitamins, water, and puffed up wheat they wanted, died within a mere two weeks. These rats died before another control group that received no food at all, only water. Scientists theorized that the cereal had this effect on the mice because every grain was treated with such intensity of high heat and pressure that many of the nutrients in the grains were destroyed. This process actually made the cereal toxic to the mice. If the cereal is toxic to mice, what are the potential health risks for humans?

Salt raises blood pressure which can cause corrosion in the walls of arteries, allowing for plaque to build up, eventually causing a heart attack. Refined grains (example: white bread), become pure sugar when digested in the body. White bread can change insulin levels and lead to diabetes, a raise blood pressure, and it can even cause a heart attack. High fructose corn syrup encourages overeating due to its chemical structure, leading to obesity. Foods with trans-fats cause buildup of fats in the arteries of the heart, which can lead to a stroke or heart attack.
