Lesson 1
Consolidation 1
The Purpose in the Process

1. Objectives
That the student should understand what the purpose in the process of Consolidation is.

2. Goals - The student should be able to:
! Explain what the purpose in the process of Consolidation is.
! Explain the work that Consolidation requires.

3. What is the purpose in the process of consolidation?

We know that Gods call is for us to take the good news of salvation to every creature. We should
then begin a process of care, attention and continual contact with the new believer until he feels
strengthened and inspired to become a disciple of Christ. We call this process Consolidation.

A. To show the benefits of belonging to the family of God.
B. To show interest in their needs.
C. To offer fellowship.
D. To water the seed that has been sown 1 Cor. 3:6

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase

E. To show them Christ, His love and the abundant life that He has.
F. To make them conscious of their decision for Christ.
G. To involve them in the activities of Jubilee.

4. The work of consolidation

A. It is necessary to understand that we are Gods fellow-workers 1 Cor. 3:9

For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building.

B. Our calling consists of winning and keeping people until they themselves are capable of doing the
same for others 2 Tim. 2:2.

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful
men who will be able to teach others also.

C. Therefore this work demands that we:

! Pray for the people that we are looking after - Romans 1:9

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without
ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers.

! Share time with them Acts 19:8

And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and
persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God.

! Show interest in their family - Acts 16:31-34

So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your
household." Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he
and all his family were baptized. Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food
before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

! Feel a burden for their needs and problems Acts 17:16

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw
that the city was given over to idols.

! Be always available for them Acts 19:22-23

So he sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, but he
himself stayed in Asia for a time. And about that time there arose a great commotion about
the Way.

2
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

! Meet their needs, as far as possible Acts 11:29

Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren
dwelling in Judea..

Conclusion

practise it as a way of life.

! Consolidation is fundamental within the development of the vision, and necessary for the fulfilment
of the goals.

Assignment

! The student must look for an example of Consolidation in the Bible, and explain it.

Lesson 2
Consolidation 2
How To Consolidate

1. Objectives

The person should understand the basic principles for effective Consolidation.

2. Goals

The student should be able to explain the best way of carrying out Consolidation.

3. Explain the plan of salvation using five teaching points

It is advisable for the same person to consolidate them who evangelised them, as a relationship of
trust and friendship is already established. that is why it is so important for every member of Jubilee
to know how to do it. If you are a leader, take time to teach it to your disciples.

A. The teaching about love John 3:16, John 10:10

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

B. The teaching about sin- Romans 3:12, 3:23

They have all turned aside, they have together become unprofitable, there is none who does
good, no, not one:,

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

4
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

C. The teaching about Christ as the one and sufficient Saviour

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through Me. (John 14:6)

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written,
"Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" (Gal. 3:13).

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).

D. The teaching about repentance

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing
may come from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19).

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

"Come now, and let us reason together, " Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Isaiah 1:18).

He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have
mercy (Pro. 28:13).

E. The teaching about accepting and receiving

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will
come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me (Rev. 3:20).

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those
who believe in His name (John 1:12).

4. Know and resolve their concerns with regard to the Bible, the Church and God.

! Who is the Lord Jesus?
! Why should I believe the Bible?
! Why should I go to church?
! Is there a God?

A. Identify their needs and problems, showing interest in them.

B. Teach them to ask God in faith, and hold them up in prayer.

5
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

decisions.

F. Involve them in the activities of your ministry.

5. To be successful during the process of consolidation

A. Understand that new believers have doubts and concerns that must be resolved.

B. Not everybody reacts in the same way; some take longer than others.

C. Win their familys trust, without entering into personal secrets that could be taken as an abuse.
Protect your image, and that of the church.

D. Show respect for everything (their work, what they spend their money on, etc). Later on you will
have the opportunity to instruct them, so that they make decisions according to the will of God.

E. Show interest in them as individuals, and not as numbers to reach a goal.

F. Motivate them in faith constantly.

G. Do not pressure them; be flexible.

H. Involve them in activities, and make them feel important.

I. Never show attending church as a change of religion.

The skill to achieve an excellent Consolidation is acquired in the measure that we prepare ourselves and
do it constantly.

the ability to identify the problems, and know the appropriate techniques for the desired solutions.

C. The end or purpose of Counselling is to achieve a change of behaviour, emotions and character,
by means of changes in values and attitudes with a biblical foundation.

! Explain the role that the one being counselled plays in the Process of Counselling.

3. The Holy Spirits ministry of counselling

The translation of the Holy Spirit as Comforter comes from the word Parakletos, which is
synonymous with Counsellor, Helper or Intercessor. To not include Him in Counselling, and to not
depend on Him, is an act of self-sufficiency. We must remember the work of the Holy Spirit, and
relate it to Counselling:

A. He teaches us and reminds us of all things John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all
things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

B. He guides us into the truth.- John 13:16

17
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not
speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to
come.

C. He convinces of sin John 15:7-8

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away,
the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come,
He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement.

D. He teaches us what we ought to say Luke 12:12

For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.

E. We speak with the Gifts of the Spirit 1 Cor. 2:13.

These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit
teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

F. The anointing teaches us 1 John 2:27

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that
anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is
not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Counselling is a work that requires preparation and wisdom; the cell leader must be prepared to carry
out this work, and be in contact with his own leaders, so as to be supervised in this area.

4. Requirements for the counsellor

A. Extensive and deep knowledge of the Bible Col. 3:16.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

The Counsellor must be convinced that the Bible is true, and ground himself on it, in order to
motivate and impart faith in others. This aspect is very important, because it allows us to know
the will of God for each case, and not go astray doctrinally.

B. Filled with and led by the Holy Spirit Isaiah 11:2.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of
counsel and might the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

18
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

C. Divine Wisdom. - Pro. 2:6-7

This comes from God, and it helps us to apply knowledge in the most suitable way to resolve
conflicts and find solutions.

! The Lord is the one who imparts wisdom

For the Lord gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding, He
stores up sound wisdom for the upright, He is a shield to those who walk uprightly. (Pro.
2:6-7).

for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to
contradict or resist (l;uke 21:15).

! We need to ask for wisdom James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without
reproach, and it will be given to him.

! Wisdom is a Gift of God - 1 Cor. 12:8

for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge
through the same Spirit.

! Wisdom increases with experience - Job. 3:7

I said, 'Age should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

! We acquire wisdom in prayer and Bible study.

D. Good will towards others.

Having LOVE as a fundamental basis for our relationships with the brothers and sisters in the
church, since this leads us to want to serve them in an unselfish way, seeking their benefit and
showing an active interest in providing help for them.

! The Lord makes that love increase 1 Thes. 3;12

And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as
we do to you.

! It must be unfeigned Romans 12:9

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

19
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

! Love for ones neighbour Matt. 22:39

And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.

E. Characteristics of the Counsellor.

! Emotionally healthy Matt. 15:14

Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both
will fall into a ditch.

! Knowledge of human nature.
! Readiness to hear.
! Intellectual preparation. Read books on the subject.
! Availability and commitment to the one counselled.
! Discernment to find in the Bible the solution to problems.
! Dedication to prayer in seeking divine guidance.
! Believing that the one counselled can change.

5. The one counselled

We must recognise each persons individuality. Each one has a different context and a special way of
viewing and accepting life. The cultural, spiritual, social, economic and educational background of
each individual is different, and therefore it is necessary to know him or her in order to offer effective
help.

It is necessary to believe that the ones counselled can change, and that they need to be listened to and
motivated to that end.

What do the ones counselled expect?

A. That you should understand their problems even better than they do themselves, and that someone
should get to the root of those problems.
B. That you should give them help in time of crisis.
C. That you should help them change undesirable behaviour, and that you should show them what is
appropriate.
D. Growth and maturity.

Conclusion
It is important to bear in mind that Counselling is a dynamic process; it is necessary to be sensitive to the
role played by each person involved in it.

There are some cases that will require a single session, and others several programmed sessions,
depending on the type of problem that is faced.

A. Start and finish with prayer.
B. Listen attentively to the problem.
C. Ask questions about everything that may influence the problem in any area.
D. Suggest solutions that are capable of evaluation for every area. Have goals defined for what you

21
Jubilee Christian Center School Of Leaders 3 Leadership Seminar

E. Back up every solution with a biblical foundation.

F. Evaluate progress (if the case requires several sessions).
G. Set appropriate assignments that reinforce the goals.
H. Bible studies.
I. Write letters.
J. Exercises that involve action.
K. As far as possible, involve the people that have a link with the problem.
L. Involve the leader too, and motivate him to form part of the solution.
M. Be prepared to minister, according to the particular case.
N. Have a bibliography to recommend to the one counselled, as part of the process.

4. Counselling can be summarised by:

A. What is/are the specific problem/problems? The specific problem must be thoroughly understood
in depth and detail.

B. What biblical principles apply in this case? What does the Bible say about the matter? In some
cases it is good for the ones counselled to be the ones who search in the Bible and explain what
they understand from it.

C. How does one apply biblical principles to solve the case?

D. Listen with great attention to the ones counselled in what they say, and how they say it, as
generally they will emphasise something which produces a lot of disturbance, even without them
noticing it.

However, there are cases where the ones counselled will not recognise the problem and a Word of
Knowledge or Wisdom will be needed to discern it. Frustrations, hidden feelings, fixations and
excuses will also be noticed, and which produce habits and generate problems.

E. The counsellor must reproduce or sum up in his own words what he has understood of what the
one counselled says; this serves to verify whether the communication is correct, and to avoid
misunderstandings or ambiguities.

F. The counsellor must not forget that communication is not only verbal, but it is also being
established by looks, gestures, the bodys posture and the tone of voice.

G. Show respect, acceptance and trust for the ones counselled, so that they may feel at liberty to
express their thoughts and feelings. A counsellor should put to one side any kind of prejudice.

H. It is important to identify the feelings that they have with regard to the matter and the people
involved, and confront them with what God teaches in His Word.
