Amorous Amerah Shrug

This Amerah shrug comes in two versions, one knit and one crochet, to please a variety of tastes and skills. Skill Level: Intermediate Sizes: S (M, L) = Women's 6-8 (10-14, 16-20) Gauge: Knit: 18 sts and 20 rows = 4" Crochet: 15 sts and 9 rows = 4" in sleeve stitch pattern Gauge Note: Gauge is measured after pulling swatch stitch-wise (vertically) and laying flat overnight. This will keep project from "growing" after wearing. Stitch gauge is the most important for this design. Materials: 9 (9, 10) balls Amerah 100% silk (50g/89m per ball) by South West Trading Co., #262 Lush. US #9/5.5mm needles, or size needed to obtain stitch gauge Size H/5.0mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain stitch gauge Notions: Yarn needle Stitch Guide: Shell [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in indicated st or sp Sleeves - Knit Version With knitting needles, CO 41 (51, 61) sts Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Repeat Rows 1 and 2 in Stockinette for 57 (61, 65)". Finish off, leaving a 20" tail for sewing underarm. Sew underarms from cuff to body leaving approximately 23 (25, 27)" opening or size to accommodate body. Sleeves Crochet Version With crochet hook, ch 33 (41, 49) Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. 32 (40, 48) sc. Row 2: Sc in back loop of each sc across, ch 1, turn. Row 3: Sc in front loop of each sc across, ch 1, turn. Repeat Rows 2 and3 until piece measures 57 (61, 65)". Finish off, leaving a 20" tail for sewing underarm. Sew underarms from cuff to body leaving approximately 23 (25, 27)" opening or size to accommodate body. Cuff Edging Knitted Version With crochet hook, work 32 (40, 48) sc evenly around cuff as follows Rnd 1: * sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc. 32 (40, 48) sc. Rnd 2: Ch1, sc in same st as join, sk 1 sc, * [sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc] in next sc, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc. Finish off. Weave in ends.
