Colligative Solution
Boiling Point
XII Grade

2013

CHEMISTRY LESSON

When we boiling water, there is bubble on the surface of water that is being cooked is one characteristic that indicate the water has boiled. Other characteristic can be determined by measuring temperature of boiling water according to the water. Note also when you cook vegetables/noodle, when the water has boiled, you immediately put the vegetables in water. Apparently, boiling water that has previously been changed to no longer boiling. Then wait for several minute, and then you will find the water back to a boil.

Procedure
1. pour the ice in to plastic glass part of it. Added 8 spoon of salt. Mix it. This is

as a colling mix solution (A solution).

2.

Pour aquadess in test tube about 4 cm. Entered in the solution A. Mix the test tube in solution A until freeze.

3. Taken the aquadess solution in out of the solution A. Measure the temperature of

aquadess solution.
4. Repeat the step number 2 and 3, with changing sugar and NaCl.

Table of Experiment
No. Solute substance Freezing Point of solute (0C) 1. 2. 3. 4. Aquadess Sugar 0,1 M Sugar 0,5 M NaCl 0,1 M

5.

Analysis
1. How is the influece of solute substance with freezing point? 2. Compare the freezing point solution with freezing point of water? 3. Compare the freezing point of sugar 0,1 M and NaCl 0,1 M

KEY ANSWER OF STUDENT WORKSHEET

A. PROBLEM FORMULATION What is influence of salt and sugar in the colligative solution? B. HYPOTHESIS Salt have lower temperature than sugar. Because salt include electrolyte and sugar include non-electrolyte. C. VARIABLE OF EXPERIMENT a. b.
c.

Manipulation Variable : The solution (sugar and NaCl) Control Variable

Respone Variable

: molarity
: temperature of solution

D. Experiment Result No. Solute substance Freezing Point of solute 1. 2. 3. 4. Aquadess Sugar 0,1 M Sugar 0,5 M NaCl 0,1 M 00C -0,5 0C -10C -20C

E. Analysis

1. How is the influece of solute substance with freezing point? Solute substance isinfluence with the freezing point when it influence with the concentraion adn the molalitiy the solution. 2. Compare the freezing point solution with freezing point of water? Freezing point of solution is lower than pure solute (Tf). It caused because water particle and part of particle in solute substance form new bonding. So when freeze, that have large freezing point is water.

3. Compare the freezing point of sugar 0,1 M and NaCl 0,1 M NaCl has lower temperature than sugar. It cause NaCl is electrolyte and sugarnon electrolyte. NaCl will ionized become Na+ and Cl- but sugar can not ionized, so the amount of particle is still. F. Conclusion Freezing point of solution (NaCl) has lower temperature than pure solution (water). And in the electrolyte and non electrolyte solution, electrolyte solution has lower temperature than non electrolyte solution, it caused in the electrolyte solution can be ionized and noon electrolyte solution can not ionized, so the amount of nnon electroltyte is still.
