Coeymans Police Arrest Phish Phans

The Coeymans Police have arrested 3 Western New Yorkers on drug and trespassing
charges. Two men and a woman who were in the Capital District to attend the Phish
concert at SPAC on Sunday evening were arrested after they were observed
“camping out” at the Ravena Coeymans Selkirk High School on Monday morning.

Police received a call from school personnel that there were people camped out on
the school grounds near County route 101. Upon arriving on the scene CPD Officer
Ryan Johnson observed Meaghan McCleary 22 of Buffalo, lounging in a lawn chair
on the schools hillside. Her car doors were open and her belongings were laid out on
the ground. While Officer Johnson was talking to McCleary a truck from the
LaFarge Cement Plant pulled up and employees from the plant and two other men
got out. The other two were Stephen Roll, 22 of Buffalo and Matthew Schroeder 25
of North Tonawanda. The two men had been found digging rocks out of the cement
plant quarry looking for crystals, by LaFarge employees. The quarry is posted for
no trespassing.

While interviewing the three concert goers, police determined that the three had
attended the concert on Sunday evening and before heading back to the Buffalo
area, they decided to come to Ravena to look for crystals in the cement plant quarry.
Officer Johnson and Officer Jay Gallagher obtained permission from the subjects to
search their vehicles for any contraband. During the search police discovered that
they were in possession of marihuana, ecstasy and a small amount of LSD.

The three subjects were taken into custody and returned to the station for
processing. Roll was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
4th degree, Criminal Trespass, Trespass and Pettit Larceny. Schroeder was charged
with Criminal Trespass, Trespass and Pettit Larceny. McCleary was charged with
Criminal Possession of Marihuana 5th degree, Criminal Possession of a controlled
substance 7th degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd degree, trespass and
vehicle and traffic charges.
All three subjects were arraigned before Ravena Village Judge Harold Warner and
remanded to Albany County Jail in lieu of bail. Bail for Roll was set at $12,500 and
for McCleary and Schroeder was set at $5,000. The charges are answerable in the
Coeymans Town Court and in The Ravena Village Court.
