Results of a Shape Animation LectureNotes The Shape Animate Tool During Global Sensitivity Studies, Mechanica changes the design variables within specified ranges to determine how sensitive certain measures such as Von Mises stress or maximum displacement are due to these variations. There are several tools available in Mechanica to help ensure that the design variables shape changes will not cause your geometry to fail. You can use Shape Animate the Model from the Options dialog box to show the effects of one or more design variables on your model. Shape Animate enables you to view the shape changes that will occur at each step of the design study instead of just at a specific value. When you click the Shape Animate the Model button to start the shape animation, Mechanica initially displays the model with the dimensions set to the start values. Mechanica then asks if you want to move on to the next step in the animation. You have the option of continuing or stopping the animation at each step. At the end of the animation, you have the option to restore the model to its original shape before the animation or replace the original model with the new shape. Best Practices Here are some Best Practices for using the Shape Animate functionality:
3. Right-click the CRANK_GL Global Sensitivity Study from the Analyses and Design Studies dialog box and select Edit....
Note that this study uses the CRANK_VIB modal analysis as the base analysis and has two design variables: HEIGHT_1 (height of the crankshaft from its center to its connecting rod axis) and HEIGHT_2 (the height of the crank from its center to the bottom of the counterweight lobe). You can see these dimensions on the figure.
4. If necessary, type 5 in the Steps field. In this procedure, you will make sure that the geometry will remain valid while being subjected to the design variables ranges shown in the dialog box: .85 HEIGHT_1 2.5 and 1.75 HEIGHT_2 3.5.
5. Click Options... from the dialog box. 6. Click Shape Animate the Model to animate the model and verify that it will regenerate properly at each of the steps. 7. Press ENTER when prompted if you want to continue to the next step. 8. Observe the geometric changes at each step and verify that the models are successfully regenerating at each step.
9. Continue to press ENTER when prompted to go to the next step. 10. Click Yes when you are prompted if you want to restore the model to its original shape. 11. Close any open dialog boxes. 12. Return to the Standard Pro/ENGINEER mode by clicking Applications > Standard. 13. Click Save from the main toolbar and click OK to save the model. 14. Click File > Erase > Current > Yes to erase the model from memory. This completes the procedure.
