Vision
To be a centre of excellence in the region for the rehabilitation and habilitation of children and adults afflicted with cerebral palsy.
Mission
To promote the sharing of knowledge and ideas, quality training, rehabilitation and habilitation and to enhance the concept of the learning processes so as to enable and empower children with cerebral palsy to be as independent as possible.
Objectives
To develop skills and enhance confidence among children afflicted with cerebral palsy. To share knowledge and skills in the training of children with cerebral palsy. AGENDA 1 : WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN The meeting was called to order at 5.30 pm by the Chairman, Yang Mulia Tunku Yan Nazihah binti Tunku Laxamana Nasir. She welcomed and thanked all present for taking their precious time to attend this meeting. In her speech, Yang Mulia Tunku Yan Nazihah outlined the highlights of the projects and activities in 2011. She also thanked the Royal Patron, our President, the Government, the general Public, all Volunteers, the Board Members, members and the Staff, who had generously supported and contributed towards the improvement of our centre.

AGENDA 3 : ADOPTION OF THE 44th ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2011 The Annual Report of the Spastic Children s Association of Johor was tabled by the Honorary Secretary and subsequently adopted after it was :0 Proposed by Seconded by : : Mr. A. Thiyagarajah Pn. Noor Khaida Wati
AGENDA 4 : ADOPTION OF THE STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 ST DECEMBER 2011 The Statement of Accounts for the year ending 31st December 2011 was presented by the Chairman on behalf of the Honorary Treasurer. Mr. A. Thiyagarajah stated that he wished to bring up the matter he had mentioned last year that the electricity charges should be put under General Expenditures and the Security expenses should be classified into the General Expenses as the Security is not only for the Hall but also for the Association as a whole. He further questioned on Note 7, page 21 as reflected, the cash and bank balances at bank at the end of the year was RM484,990.00, and that this amount should be placed in fixed deposit to gain interest. The Honorary Treasurer, En. Mohd. Daruis Zainuddin said that he would look into the matter and would make sure that the bank balance would be minimum at year end. Mr. Thiyagarajah again questioned on the list of donors not presented in the annual report. The Chairman explained that some donors do not wish their names to be appeared in the annual report and she that said she would seek donors permission before having their names in the annual report and will publish in future if they agree. En. Mohd Shah mentioned that on the Income and Expenditure Account at Page 14 of the annual report it is stated that only RM244.00 was spent for book and educational material in 2011, while RM14,400 was spent in 2010. The Treasurer said that with regards with this matter, it will be raised to the Auditors after the meeting as they are not here today. AGENDA 5 : ELECTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR 2013/2014 As the new constitution has been approved by the Registrar of Societies in December 2009, this election therefore was conducted according to the new constitution. Under the new provisions, only the Chairman and Deputy Chairman were to be elected to the specific positions. The other eight ( 8 ) elected members of the Board shall have their portfolios decided jointly by the Chairman and her deputy. In addition, the Chairman may co-opt three ( 3 ) members to the Board in consultation with the new Board, anytime during the tenure of office. AGENDA 8 : APPOINTMENT OF HONORARY ADVISORS The Chairman informed that the Honorary Advisors namely Yang Berbahagia Datin Paduka Hajjah Aminah binti Hashim and Datin Hajjah Jelita Noor Ashikin binti Hussein will remain. AGENDA 9 : ANY OTHER MATTERS 9.1 Smoking in Association premises Ms. Lekha Nandey brought up a complaint that a few of SCAJ staff were found smoking at the premises. She added that smoking in public area is prohibited and suggested that the Management should strictly look into this matter. Mdm. Sukhjit Kaur suggested a penalty for those found smoking. The Chairman said that the Board of Directors ( BOD ) would discuss with regards to this matter.
AGENDA 10 : CLOSING ADDRESS The Chairman, in her closing address once again thanked all members who were present, the generous public who donated, not forgetting the welfare and government departments. The Chairman further said that if any member has any comment or wish to bring any matter to the BOD s attention, they can email through www.spasticjohor.com or to spasticjohor@yahoo.com. The Meeting ended at 7.30pm with a vote of thanks to the Chair.

Often, each student is given personal attention by the class teacher to ensure all students benefit.
Special Curriculum
Children in class 1 Jingga and 1 Hijau, are taught special curriculum tailored to their individual needs. They are taught a special curriculum, stressing on daily living skills. They are taught motor skills, self care skills and social competence, pre-number, colouring and language development. These activities are conducted in a play mode for them to enjoy and remember easily. At the end of the year, they are separated into two categories, namely those who are academically inclined and those who are not.

Pre-Vocational Programme
Between the ages of fourteen to sixteen, students who are physically and mentally able, are placed in pre-vocational classes, where they are taught pre-vocational skills. The type of activities provided to the students are based on their individual capability and ability. For example, cutting, folding, pasting, sewing, tying, etc. with material such as paper, cloth, wood, etc. This pre-vocational programme is designed to prepare, expose and initiate skills practice before they are allocated to the vocational class. The students are taught basic academic work such as language, mathematics and religious knowledge. Those who are unable to read and write are engaged in pre-school activities.

Vocational Programme
At the age of sixteen, the students are placed in vocational classes where they are taught manipulative and vocational skills. For example, cutting of paper and cloth, basic sewing, cross stitching, bookmark making, weaving foot rugs or basketry , cooking lessons and personal hygiene. In addition, they also participate in mobility programmes such as going to the supermarket, post office, bank, boarding and alighting the bus and train in preparation for their open employment. Beside this, we enrich the students with 3Ms skill, Membaca, Mengira dan Menulis. Activity vocational class

Co-Curricular Activities
Girl Guiding and Boy Scouting are two uniform groups in our special education school. These are part of the school co-curricular activities. They hold their fortnightly meetings every Wednesday. They are actively involved in activities which help to mould their characters through the specially modified programme tailored according to their special needs. There are also indoor camps and campfire similar to activities of normal guides and scouts. Our guiders and scouters undergo training courses and sit for various tests in order to upgrade their skills and knowledge in guiding and scouting.
Computer Programme
Computers not only aid in reinforcing classroom lessons but also serve as a mode of communication to non-verbal CP children. More students are being encouraged to become computer savvy.

Weekly Assembly
* Every Tuesday * Students and teachers sing the National Anthem, the State Anthem and the school song. * Announcements for the week are made.

* Everyday except Friday * With a teacher leading the exercise, students will follow with the aid of other teachers.

21.3.2012 (Wednesday) Maulidul Rasul celebration being more meaningful with the presence of all school students.
22.3.2012 (Thursday) Birthday Celebrations for the month of Mac. Birthday celebrations have become more lively with the presentation by pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Nong Chik, Johor Bahru. Songs and dance performances were held.

28.3.2012 (Wednesday) A total of 99 people including parents, visited the Singapore Mandai Zoo.
12.4.2012 (Thursday) The 40th Annual sports day was held on 12 April 2012. Students were divided into 4 groups. Senior Walkers, Senior Non Walkers, Junior Walkers, Junior Non Walkers and Severe group. All the children had fun on that day.
19.4.2012 (Thursday) Monthly birthday celebrations were held with performances. Teacher's Day

17.5.2012 (Thursday) Birthday Celebrations for May. Y.M. Tunku and Board Members also attended the Birthday celebrations. The presence of staff from Hospital Columbia, Nusajaya, Johor, made this event more enjoyable and memorable.
15.6.2012 (Friday) Because children with cerebral palsy generally have inadequate oral hygiene, they are more susceptible to cavities. Also, because they are mouth-breathers (dries the oral tissues and plaque sticks more readily). Be sure to have our child using a fluoride product as recommended by our dental staffs.
21.6.2012 (Thursday) Invitation to participate in the Annual Sports Day of Sekolah Menengah Permas Jaya 3. Children took part in the athletes run and shot putt events. 26 students and 13 staffs attended.
28.6.2012 (Thursday) On 28th Jun 2012 Spastic school held a camp fire in the recreational forest UTM for 2 days and 1 night, attended by the Royal Highness Paduka Puteri Tunku Aminah Maimunah binti Sultan Ibrahim. A lot of activities were held. All pupils enjoyed themselves.

5.7.2012 (Thursday) A study tour to Kluang on the Malayan Railway train from Johor Baharu to Kluang. A total number of 55 students and 30 staff members took part. In Kluang a bus ride of Kluang town. After that, a visit to Organic Garden Zenxin, Kluang before returning home.
12.7.2012 (Thursday) Project work together with COSMO Institute POINT, Johor Bahru, Johor. 40 students and 9 lecturers participated in that program.
6.9.2012 (Thursday) Birthday Celebrations for month of August and September was held in the Spastic Hall. Food for students was sponsored by Mr. Karthigayans family from Singapore.

Network Development" at Millennium Sports Complex, Skudai, JB. 20 students and 10 teachers were involved in this program.
23.10.2012 (Tuesday) Recreational Club competition was held among the pupils. Different games such as Congkak, Chess, Carrom, Dam Haji, Snake & ladders, Tic Tac Toe, Stick and Soft Dart were organized.
30 & 31.10.2012 (Tuesday & Wednesday) The open day was held at the School. The objective was to encourage parents to get to know the childrens progress throughout the year. At the same time, parents therapists. received advice and reports from teachers and

1.11.2013 (Thursday) Deepavali celebrations were held in the dining hall. Parents were very responsive. Y.M. Tunku and all Board Members attended this function.
12.12.2013 (Wednesday) Pupils took part in the XVI Paralimpiad Malaysian Games 2012 in Kuantan, Pahang. 5 pupils were involved in the Boccia Games. Lim Ship Miao and Chew Wei Lun won gold medals in singles BC 1 and BC 3. At the same time Liew Chiau Fui won a bronze in singles BC 3 and one gold for pair BC 3. In games Boccia, Johor was the overall medal champion.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy services promote a cerebral palsy child to perform daily rituals and activities of daily living (ADL) in a way that will enhance their quality of life and make possible enjoyment of independent living. Occupational Therapy services provide them with positive, fun and purposeful activities to enhance their cognitive, physical, and fine motor skills and increase their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. There are 83 school students and 25 out-patients receiving occupational therapy services at Spastic Johor. Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Skills Activities that are oriented towards taking care of ones own body also called basic activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, grooming and feeding.
Fine Motor Skills Involves the using of small muscle groups for controlled movements, particularly in object manipulation.
Cognitive The ability to use higher brain functions in attention span, memory, orientation, categorization and problem solving
Sensory and Perception The ability to receive input and organize sensory input into meaningful patterns

Prewriting and Scissoring Skills The functional skills of handwriting support the academic tasks of writing. Scissoring skills are what we need to manipulate scissors specifically opening and closing the hand to cut paper, straws, and yarn.
Coordination It is related to using more than one body part to interact with task objects in a manner that supports task performance.
Group Therapy The group allows the student to develop good peer relationship and socialization skills.
Home Modification Home modifications change the home environment to allow children to function with maximum independence.

Speech Therapy
Speech therapy provides services and supports for families and their children with cerebral palsy who have speech, language, communication, drooling, and feeding/swallowing difficulties. There are 56 school students and 25 out-patients involved in the individual and group therapy sessions . Develop clear and intelligible speech in conversations.
Use alternative and/or augmentative communication (eg. gesture, picture pointing) effectively in social/academic situations

Develop social interaction skills appropriate for age and cultural expectations in various communicative contexts.
Use strategies for effective management of feeding/swallowing deficits and develop age appropriate oral-motor skills

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is an important treatment process which helps the Cerebral Palsy child to move towards the pathway of independent lifestyle. There are 84 school students from the ages of 5 to 17 years, 41 students from the workshop (18 years and above), 6 EIPIC students, and 15 outpatients managed by Physiotherapists as an individual in group therapy and recreational play. Synchronized Swimming
Hydrotherapy helps in reducing spasticity, improving breathing control, balance and co-ordination. These are half hour sessions, 5 times per week, basically on Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Fridays.
Hippotherapy is carried out with 12 students on pre-fixed dates at the Horse Riding School, UTM Skudai, Johor Bahru.
Home Management Programme Physiotherapists with other staff, visit students homes during school holidays to train the parents on how to modify the available material, furniture and apply it for home exercises programme.

At about this stage, children are ready for a little independence and have the opportunity to share and play with others.
By now their social capacity would have increased and they will be able to understand simple commands.
Play activities and socializing in unstructured situations with the combination of music, language, mathematics, art, themes, stories and other resources.
The use of play is not only to develop the childs functional skills but also to fulfill their interactive activities to help them understand new concepts and skills easily.

Visit and Voluntary activities by teachers and students from Anderson school, Singapore (March): Visitors offered their services by cleaning-up & painting the premises.
Educational Outings: Visit to Mandai Zoo, Singapore (March) Train trip to Kluang & Visit to ZenXin Organic Park (July) Pupils were given the opportunity to participate in the outings which encouraged awareness and socialization
In-house Staff Development Program on Management of CP for teachers & therapy aides (March & June school term breaks): The training program was conducted by therapists, and designed to upgrade teaching skills & managing rehab activities effectively

Sukaneka(April): The annual sports day promotes the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, eye hand coordination skills, cognitive and communication skills for pupils.
Synchronized swimming (June) Sports for PWD (July) : Staff participated in the sessions which were conducted by Ms. Morita & Ms. Miharu from JICA. This training is to be applied for improvement of the students in physical aspects.

Sheltered Workshop
The Sheltered Workshop with 43 adults afflicted with Cerebral Palsy was setup to cater for employment skills. These special persons are unable to find work in the open employment as mobility and transportation facilities are main obstacles faced by them. We have wheelchair and rollator bound workers. They are mainly involved in weaving floor mats and rugs. They also do cross stitches for clocks, cushions and decorative items, Knitting and recycling paper items are also done here. Floor mats are the main products. On an average of 30 to 50 floor mats are produced monthly and sold at RM5.00 per piece.

1. Sports activities were carried out according to schedule prepared. 2. 5 pupils participated in Athletics whilst 6 pupils took part in Boccia games. 3. Intensive sports training was being conducted in October 2012 for preparation for the National Championships Paralimpiad XVI held on 8th 14th December 2012 at Kuantan, Pahang. 4. The athletics team sent 2 athletes and won 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals. The boccia team sent 5 persons and won 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals.

2 athletes were involved in Sports for the Disabled, organised by Jabatan Belia and Sukan Johor from 2nd 4th December 2012 at Stadium Larkin Johor. Spastic pupils received two invitations for sports during the year 2012 to :i. Sports Day Sekolah Menengah Permas Jaya 3 on Jun 2012.

06.05.2012 (Sunday) World Laughter Day at KSL Johor Bahru Johor Bahru Happy & Joyous Club celebrate world laughter day at KSL Johor Bahru. Our workshop staff was invited. The event was graced by Y.B Tan Sri Datuk Seri Utama Shahrir bin Haji Abdul Samad.

5 - 6.06.2012 (Friday & Saturday) A Brainstorming Workshop at M-Suites Hotel, Johor Bahru A Brainstorming Workshop was held for 2 days at M-Suites Hotel, Johor Bahru and attended by all Heads of Department. The participants set the direction of the Association for the next 5 years and formed the strategic planning.
