Introduction

All measurements throughout this project are given in both standard (ft and inches) and metric (mm). The imperial (standard) measurements are given first followed by the metric measurements in brackets (). The doghouse stands 3 ! ("#$mm) high% it is 3&! ("$$mm) wide% and "! ('&$$mm) long. It will accommodate a reasonably large dog but is still suitable for smaller dogs. The doghouse is constructed out of '#$mm ( &#mm ('! ( )!) boards for the floor and roof% #$mm ( #$mm (&! ( &!) lumber for the framing and skids and '$mm (3*"!) thick e(terior type plywood for the walls. A bit about the framing lumber size If you use dressed (smooth% surfaced% planed) lumber for the frame% then the finished (actual) si+e of the wood (width and thickness) will be less than the si+e given above. #$mm ( #$mm (&! ( &!) wood% when dressed (smooth% surfaced% planed) will become appro(imately ' '*&! ( ' '*&! ( #mm ( #mm). If you use dressed lumber you will need to make adjustments to the measurements given in the cutting list. ,efer to note 2 on the ne(t page for more information. Alternative wood sizes If &! ( &! (#$mm ( #$mm) stock is not available in your area% one option is to rip (cut lengthwise) &! ( ! ('$$mm ( #$mm) stock in half. The latter is very common. If '! ( )! ('#$mm ( &#mm) boards are unobtainable% then use different si+e boards or even plywood. Treated wood and your dog -ome dogs gnaw on wood and some treated woods contain preservatives that can be to(ic. If you have such a dog then be careful of the type of wood that you use. -ome woods are naturally resistant to decay and do not need treatment. .our local lumber store will be able to advise you on the best types of wood to use. About the painting Any untreated wood should be painted using /ood 0rimer% 1namel 2ndercoat and -uper 3loss 1namel. /hen dried the paint would be non4to(ic to dogs chewing% but any damage taking the paint system back to bare wood would eventually allow water and increase the danger that the lumber may eventually begin to rot.

Note 1:. Items (1), (2), ( ), (!), and (") in the table below should be wood suitable for e(terior use. ,ead the notes on the previous page for information on measurements% wood si+es% alternatives and treated lumber. Note 2:. If you use dressed (smooth% surfaced% planed) lumber for the frame% then items (#) and ($)will have to be cut accordingly. They will need to be slightly longer than the lengths given below.

Instructions
,tep one 8ut all the pieces according to the 8utting list on page 2 and cut the plywood wall panels to the shapes and dimensions as shown in the plans on the previous page. ,tep two 9i( the " floorboards (92) to the three under floor skids (91) with 3! (6#mm) galvani+ed nails. 1nsure the finished floor dimensions are 3'4'* ! ( "! (6"$mm ( '&$$mm). The three under floor skids should be evenly spaced with two each side and one in the middle. 3o to the plans on theprevious page for reference.

,tep three :ail the front and rear frames comprising of top and bottom plates (95) and studs (9#) together. ;verall frame dimensions of both front and rear frame should be '"! ( #$mm) high and 3'4'* ! (6"$mm) wide. 1nsure the placement of the intermediate studs allow a gap of '&! (3$$mm) for the doorway. -ee diagrams for reference. -tand and fi( the front and rear frames in place at each end of the floor. ,tep four 9i( the & sidewall top plates (9$) in place. ,tep five 9i( the wall panels (9 , 9!) to the frames using &! (#$mm) galvani+ed flathead nails.

,tep si: 9i( the rafters (97) in place. ,tep seven 9i( the '$ roofing boards (9") (# each side) to the rafters beginning with the lowest board. The roof boards are )$! ('#$$mm) long and the <ouse is "! ('&$$mm) long% therefore the roof boards should overhang each end of the <ouse by )! ('#$mm). The first roofing board should overhang the sidewalls by '! (&#mm) to &! (#$mm). 9i( the rest of the roofing boards in place checking that all overlaps are even. 9inally% cut out the portion of the bottom plate (95) that is in the doorway.
