in the event of flashover. The amount of lift and the general shape of horns and rings shall be such as to secure the maximum impulse flashover voltage consistent with the above requirements. Insulator strings and arc fittings shall be subjected to such tests as the Owner/Engineer may require to prove compliance with the requirements without charge to the Owner.

8.6 8.6.1

Quality Control General

Type, sample and routine tests shall be undertaken on suspension and tension insulator sets. Contractor shall alTange with the manufacturer to type test the insulator sets (with complete fittings) even if the records of past type tests are available. Cost of these tests shall be deemed to be included in Contract price. Refer Clause 2.6.3 of this Volume. Design tests on composite insulators units shall have been previously undertaken in full accordance with the requirements of IEC 1109 and all the amendments thereto, including the ageing tests under operating voltages and simulated weather conditions Annex C (lEC 1109) for duration of 5000 hours. These tests shall have been certified by an independent quality assurance organisation, and the test certificates made available to the Owner/Engineer (see also clause 8.6.3 for Owner/Engineers' approval. However Annex D (IEC 1109) clause 5.3 Test of housing: Tracking and Erosion Test, shall be completed. Contract drawings previously submitted to the Owner/Engineer shall be available at the time of testing. The Contractor shall give the Owner/Engineer the requisite period of notice prior to undertaking the tests, and shall submit to the Owner/Engineer a test programme and procedures. This is a Hold Point. The insulators shall be capable of high pressure live line washing. The insulator manufacturer shall have calTied out tests to prove suitability of the insulators for live line washing. The other test requirements are summarised below.
