History of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)

After the separation in 1947, Pakistan became a separate state, cricket in the county developed progressively and Pakistan was given test match status at a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference at Lards Cricket Ground on 28th July 1952. In the winter of 1948, when the cricket team of West Indies was on a tour of India. Suddenly few members of Lahore Gymkhana gave an idea to invite that team to Pakistan for one-off test match. This gave the birth to the idea of forming the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP), so that an official invitation could be extended to the West Indies cricket team. Justice A.R Cornelus who later became chief justice of Pakistan, was the captain of Lahore Gymkhana, with his other fellows cricketers like Mian Muhammad Saeed, Sheikh Muhammad Nisar, Dr. Jahangir Khan, QD Butt, Dr. Dilawar Hussain and AR. Collector invited then Khan Iftikhar Hussain, Chief Minister Punjab, the khan of Mamdot to form the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP). Khan Iftikhar Hussain became the first president of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP). In 1995, the organization was renamed Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) acquired a new name the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). And they reset rules and regulations. Arif Ali Khan Abbasi was the first chief executive of Pakistan Cricket Board.

Media Opinion about Pakistan Cricket Board

Pakistan Cricket Board is the highest authority in Pakistan which governs the structure and selection criteria matters of Pakistan cricket. It has always been surrounded by the dangers of criticism and antagonism from within the structure, and sometimes also from the outsiders like media, general etc. The main factor which has been criticized much is, first of all, the selection of chairman of board. The president of Pakistan is the sole authority which possesses the power to appoint a chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board. The person appointed in such a disappointing manner is, hence, not responsible to anyone except the president. In this way he the chairman enjoys a type of sovereign status and so cares not any more about the merits at his subordinate hierarchical levels. The next factor which is in talks opposite is that the Pakistan Cricket Board has no satisfactory and formal structure of domestic cricket. Pakistan has a variety of talented, enthusiastic and patriotic youth. But this natural talent needs to be exploited and motivated highly so that their inborn talent might well polished and furnished. But this strongly needed objective has never been achieved due to the lack of well organized structure of domestic cricket. There is another problem with the Pakistan Cricket Board structure which is taunted much by the media sector, especially; i.e. the corruption and bribery scandals. Mostly the officials from players to the coach to the chairman are listened to have been involved in such scandals of corruption. Sometimes the well talented players do not get the chance to play merely, because they are, either not eligible to provide some bribe in the form of money; or cannot furnish a recommendation of any big personality. And the last, but not the least, factor is the lack of co-operation and co-ordination at different tiers in the hierarchy of Pakistan Cricket Board. Pakistan Cricket Board officials have never been sincere and goal directed. What they strive for is just the achievement of their individual monetary accomplishments. They have no, or a little, concern about what they have been appointed for, and what the expectations of the whole Pakistani nation have been with them.

Corruption in Pakistan Cricket Board

Now Pakistan Cricket Board is become a symbol of corruption. For instance, on 8-10-2008 Ijaz Butt became chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board. In one year he spent One Koror on his tours. And he started recruit his friends and family members. Pakistan Cricket Boards current financial officer is Mian Raza Ahmed. He is the

class fellow of Ijaz Butts son in-law. Mohammad Naeem, Ex-financial advisor, is brother in-law of Ijaz Butt. Before employing him no advertisement was appear in the NEWS papers. Sheeren Javed, wife of Ahmed Javed, was the chairperson of women wing. She was appointed by Ijaz Butt, because Ahmed Javed is the friend of Ijaz Butt. Ijaz Butt appointed Shafqat Rana as U-19 team Manager on the orders of Mian Shahbaz Shareef (Chief Minister of Punjab). Another example of corruption in Pakistan Cricket Board is; Colonel Rtd. Khwaja Najam was appointed by Mian Shahbaz Shareef (Chief Minister of Punjab) as Security Officer. One more example of political interference is that Ijaz Butt is the brother in-law of Choudhry Ahmed Mukhtar (PPP). And Yawar Saeed is father in-law of Mian Raza Rabbani. Yawar Saeed was the manager (1984-2010) of Pakistan Cricket Board. He is about 75 years old. And Yawar Saeed has a 50 year old friendship with Pakistan Cricket Boards chairman Ijaz Butt. That was all about past. Now if we come to the current affairs then we can see that Pakistan Cricket Board is a victim of Spot Fixing. This is not very first time, Pakistan Cricket Board is being victimized since 1980. In 2010 The News of the World explored that Pakistani players are involved in spot fixing against England in the 4th test at Lords Cricket Ground in London. They said that three Pakistani Player Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt had accepted bribes from agent and bookmaker Mazhar Majeed. They were agreed to obey orders given by Mazhar Majeed, for instance, fast bowlers Amir and Asif would deliberately bowl no-balls at specific points. Then in response to the allegations, Scotland Yard arrested Mazhar on the charge of MatchFixing. The International Cricket Council (ICC) declares that Butt is banned for 10 years, with five years suspended, while Asif and Amir are handed bans of seven years with two suspended and five years respectively.

Conclusion
Pakistan Cricket Board is known as corrupted. So, this shows a bad image in the world of cricket. This is all because Pakistan Cricket Board is only ruled by its chairman. On the other hand, corruption only occurs when an organizations rules and regulations are not properly followed. Pakistan Cricket Boa rd can grow up when it will be run in a democratic way.

Questions
1) 2) 3) 4) Why Mr. Ijaz Butt is still chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board after a lot of scandals? Why there is no check and balance on the recruitment of officials? Why the management of Pakistan Cricket Board did not take any strong stand against alleged players? Why Pakistan Cricket Board is not constructing new stadiums?

Helping Notes
Mr. Ijaz Butt is still chairman because he has favor of politicians. Because of this it is ruled by him. In reflecting Pakistan Cricket Board is in a vicious circle of corruption. To resolve this problem there must be an election to elect chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board. Because of political involvement there is no check and balance on the recruitment of officials. If they recruit on the basis of merit then the picture of Pakistan Cricket Board can be change. The management of Pakistan Cricket Board must have taken a strong action against alleged players, so that become a symbol for the rest of players. They must have tried to get confidence of the players. If they did then the reputation of Pakistan cricket board never disturbs. As we know Pakistan is losing its image due to terrorism so it is very difficult to start an international cricket series in the country. But they have to construct international standard stadiums, because good days of Pakistan are not so far. +
