Table Topper with Bias Trim

This gorgeous Table Topper can be made any size to fit any table. The bias trim adds the finishing decorator touch. Embroidered flowers or other motifs may be added for additional flair. Youll want to make one for every season and special occasion!

Fold it again lengthwise to form a 22 square. Holding onto the point where all the folds are, fold the fabric again so that the fabric is in eighths. Measure 22 from the point all the way around the fabric, marking every 2. Cut along this line for a circular topper. If you want a scalloped edge, cut up 2 in the center of your eighths.

the fold. Lay a straight edge over the raw edge and cut 11/16 ( between 1 and 1). Cut slowly and carefully as this is very important to the success of your binder. Spray the strips with Best Press to add a little body to the bias. You will need about 4 yards to bind the table cloth.

Binding the Table Cloth Finish off the raw edge of the topper with a narrow zig-zag or narrow three thread serge.

Cutting Bias Strips Unfold fabric. Refold fabric into a triangle by folding a selvage edge to a cut edge. Fold into a smaller triangle again by folding the fabric in half fold over the fold. Lay a straight edge down and rotary cut off

Join the bias strips together into one long strip. Lay the strips at a 90 angle. Sew a seam on the straight of the grain.

Trim the seam allowance to . Trim the ends of the seam so that they are not even with the edge of the bias. Press open. Put Foot #94 on your machine. Attach Binder Attachment #84 to the free arm in front of the needle so that the attachment becomes the right toe of the foot. The securing pin goes into the right hole; the screw goes into the left hole. For this project, a 2.5mm straight stitch with the needle position to the left of center. Loading the Binder Cut the end of the bias strip into a point and feed it into the binder so that the wrong side will be against the project. Use a seam ripper or Finger Trolley to push the bias through the attachment by at least an inch. Sew a few stitches to make sure the bias is feeding easily. Pull the binding thru the attachment so that the project can be placed into the center of the attachment.

Stitch off the end of the table cloth.

Cut the binding. Fold the excess binding to the back of the table cloth. Topstitch, and trim off the excess binding.

Spray with Best Press to keep your table cloth looking fresh. Spray starch may also be used. For more information on Binder Attachment #84 see Feetures Volume 2, Unit J, page 13.

Place the table cloth, right side up, into the center of the binder. Stitch the binding to the edge of the table cloth. It is best to use a slow motor speed if your machine has that option.
