APEX Online High School Subjects Grade Improvement


Session 1: 1/6/14 - 3/6/14. Session 2: 3/10/14 - 5/15/14. 022600 M-Th 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm BAS/F600 This voluntary program is for concurrently enrolled high school students (sophomores, juniors and seniors). Students eligible for this program are those who have earned a grade of C or D in a course or courses and want to improve their grades for college admission or raise their GPA to play sports, participate in clubs, etc. Fee is $149 per 5 credit course. Enrollment packets are available in the main office starting on December 2, 2013.

The Learning Center offers students all the courses that are required for graduation as well as study materials and practice tests for GED test preparation. Enrollment is continuous, but due to high demand for these courses, students may put on a waiting list. Students must see a counselor prior to enrolling in the Learning Center. Learning Center Classes

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

All high school students in California public schools are required to pass the CAHSEE. CAHSEE Test Preparation classes are offered in the Learning Center to prepare for this exam. In addition, the following teacher directed CAHSEE preparation class is offered: CAHSEE Preparation Classes (Offered in person and online) 020402 T & W 10:45 am - 12:45 pm BAS/F600 Chow 020401 T & W 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm BAS/C302 Kesler Spring 2014 CAHSEE testing dates at the Adult School are: February 4 & 5; March 18 & 19 and May 13 & 14. Students in the ABE program acquire basic English language arts and mathematic skills needed to transition to the high school diploma program. First session: 10 weeks, 1/6/14 - 3/14/14. Testing
The GED has changed! There is a new version of the GED test, which will now be administered on the computer only. Students who did not complete the previous version of the test will need to complete all sections of the new version. The Burbank Adult School (BAS) is an approved GED testing site. The cost for testing is anticipated to be $140. Testing registration including payment will be completed online only. BAS is currently in the process of working with the approved test provider, Pearson VUE to set up the required testing software. We anticipate that the test schedule will be posted online in January. 80% attendance rate (minimum) and successful completion of course competencies are required for students to be eligible for CTE certificates from Burbank Adult School (BAS).

Pre-Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Fee: $689 (16 weeks, 2/3/14 - 6/5/14; no class on 2/17/14, 3/24/14 - 3/27/14 & 5/26/14) Mandatory Orientation: 1/22/14 at 9 am. 062703 M - Th 8:45 am-1 pm BAS/B203 Powell (Average Annual Salary: $27,533). Attendance  at orientation required. This course will prepare the student for employment in a skilled nurs ing facility or other long-term hospital facility. Includes resident care, nutrition, rehabilitation and emergency care. Graduates will be prepared to take the state competency examina tion for CNA. You are required to push, pull, stand, sit and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Students must have a social security card and photo ID. Students must demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English. Fee includes required uniform, equipment and clinical (hospital) training. Phlebotomy Technician
(8 weeks, 3/1/14 - 5/3/14; no class on 3/29/14 & 4/19/14) Fee: $2,995 Saturday 8 am-5 pm BAS/H805 Staff Burbank Adult School in partnership with Boston Reed College is offering a comprehen  sive Phlebotomy Technician Training program. A Phlebotomy Technician draws blood from patients in a hospital, clinical laboratory, doctors office or clinic. Phlebotomy Technicians are in demand as one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare. Fee includes textbooks, program materials, externship placement (40 required hours in addition to classroom hours) and certificate of completion. Electrician Apprenticeship Program
(4 year program) nterested in a position in the electrical I trade? Do you want to earn money while you learn a new trade? Apprentices/ Electrical Trainees attend class one night a week from 5 to 9 pm for 76 hours a semes ter, two semesters a year. Apprentices will be required to gain on-the-job training experience. Apprentices will be dispatched to subscribing employers (when there are jobs available) so that they can receive on-thejob-training. We will cover the required networking top ics from A+ exam and work with XP and Windows 7, an introduction to Server 2008, home network equipment and Wireless Computing (WI-FI).

Learn fashion hairstyles for runway, print, film and TV. Items on list must be purchased by the student before the first day of class (approxi mate cost is $175). Computer Network Technician 2

(16 weeks, 2/4/14 - 5/29/14; no class on 3/25/14 & 3/27/14) Fee: $189 065102 T & Th 5:30 pm-9:15 pm BAS/F603 Fischetto Computer network is a hands-on  training curriculum. The course utilizes structured lectures followed by related lab assignments. It is for students serious about passing the Network+ and Cisco CCNA exams, and obtain ing employment or furthering their career in IT. This semester we will be covering more Network+ and CCNA course objectives and finish preparing for the exams. The class will include Cisco switching, advanced Cisco routing, wireless, Ipv6, WAN and more. Prerequisite: Networking/1 or instructor approval.

Students with disabilities may be able to receive financial support for their career-based training, leading to employment, through the Department of Rehabilitation. Students with disabilities may also be able to obtain job search assistance and job placement services through the Department of Rehabilitation. Disability Services -

Completion certificates for Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses will only be issued to students who have completed at least 80% of the course hours and have met course objectives and competencies. Burbank Adult School does not guarantee job, externship, or internship placement as a result of completing CTE courses.

Important! Fees and Refunds

In the event that a class is cancelled OR if a student chooses to withdraw from a class at least two business days prior to the class start date, the student will be entitled to a full refund. The fee for each class follows the course title. Checks, money orders, credit cards and cash will be accepted. Returned checks will be charged a $20 fee payable in cash only. There is a $10 processing fee for all refunds not due to class cancellations. No refunds will be issued to any student after the first scheduled class session (including no shows). There are no refunds for class materials and/ or books purchased by students.
