Celina Johnson Lesson Plan ~2 weeks Daily topic: Ancient Egypt Culture and Religion Objectives: TLW be able

e to describe in detail one of the gods worshipped by Ancient Egyptians, and will create a small presentation of said deity. TLW be able to describe one cultural custom of the Ancient Egyptians in a one-page paper. TLW be able to write a well thought-out paper (two pages, multiple points) regarding an approved (by the instructor) topic in Ancient Egypt. The students paper will explain either one custom from Ancient Egyptian times and how people would react to that custom today, or will describe in detail one common god of Ancient Egypt and how he/she was worshipped in those times vs. how they might be worshipped today. Procedures: The lesson will open with a review of Ancient Egyptian culture. The introduction will take most of the first day of the lesson, and will cover basic elements of Egyptian culture. Day Two will cover religion in Ancient Egypt and the importance of it in day to day life. There will be a very brief explanation of the different gods worshipped, covering what each god represented and a picture for reference, as well as the popularity among the people of that god. Day Three will be the introduction of the assignment for the students. Each student will be responsible for selecting an Egyptian god (will be approved by the teacher before they continue with their project student proposals for god of choice will be on Day Four). Students will begin searching on the Internet to find which Egyptian god theyd like to research. Students will be restricted to http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/gods/explore/main.html for searching for god/goddess for this part of the assignment. Also, app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/egyptiangods-mythology-pocket/id503248704?mt=8 Students will use a Microsoft Word document in class to begin collecting information on their deity of choice. This document will be used to complete a Prezi Presentation, which will be given on the next Monday of class. Before creating their own presentations, the teacher will give a detailed run-through of how to use Prezi. After the presentations are complete (probably two or three days of class, each one under five minutes) students will begin research from a custom list premade by the teacher of common Egyptian cultural practices. This list will include holidays, daily rituals, and some common burial rituals. Each student will write a one-page paper about the custom of their choice, to be turned in the day after the assignment is given. Two days of class will be spent doing Michaels activities, outlined in his lesson plan. This will give students a break from heavy research and cultural/religious discussions and activities. One Michaels lessons are complete, students will briefly review with the teacher the cultural and religious aspects previously discussed. Each student will choose from either the god/goddess they chose or the cultural practice and write a two-paged paper comparing/contrasting either how the god/goddess was worshipped then vs. how they would be worshipped now or how cultural rituals were performed then vs. how they might be performed now.
