Sraddhanjoli Bhadra Professor Jessica Jacobs RHET 1311 Decamber 5, 2013 Final Reflection The overall experience of signing up for this course has been a positive one for me. In the very beginning of the semester, I was lacking the self-confidence just thinking how am I going to do the writing assignments. I had little essay writing experience before. But after completing the assignments, Memoir and Disciplinary Report, I feel confident to be able to express my thoughts in writing. The first assignment was writing a Memoir, where I wrote about a particular period of my life which symbolizes a sense of success and perseverance. In that assignment, I came to know about myself a little more, and felt relieved to be open about my unpleasant experience of that time. I am sort of a shy and reserved person. I take time to open up. So it was a bit difficult but I am glad that I got the opportunity to overcome my drawbacks. While writing, its very important to give a strong introduction so that the reader is interested in reading it and also to end it with an impactful conclusion. After writing this memoir, I learned a lot about how to make the writing impressive: by using dialogs; figurative languages like metaphor and simile; the art of concrete descriptions and so on. Use of dialogs, metaphors, and similes makes the reader imagine the situation and the back drop of the story. Use of concrete descriptions about incidents makes the reader fully aware of the situation and removes misunderstanding. And most importantly, how to make transitions between paragraphs.

The second assignment was related to a Disciplinary Report. Here, I had to interview a faculty, a student, and a professional. The first thing I have learned while doing this assignment is how to draft a professional email asking for an appointment to interview. I have also learned about the key points while formatting an email: subject line, opening salutation, body paragraphs, closing salutation, and professional signature. I also learned that the mail shouldnt wrap to make it easier for the reader. Discussing interview questions in class was a great help as I was clear in my mind about the questions that I need to ask each interviewee. I interviewed Dr. Patangia who is a professor as well as the coordinator of the Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program. He is a humble person with a positive personality and an excellent teacher with many teaching excellence awards at both College and University level. He has also excelled in research and still continuing with funded research work employing both graduates and undergraduates as research assistants. Then I interviewed Jonathan Levesque who is a senior student in the ECET program. He is focused, hard-working, and firm in his goal. He is one of those students who finish all his lab assignments and projects before the due date. He will graduate in May and has been offered an engineering position at AT & T. My third interview was with Geoffery Lueken who is a professional and is working at the Air Force Base in Jacksonville. He graduated from UALR in Spring 2013. He is a fun-loving person with a jovial outlook. I found him to be very encouraging and gave me varieties of useful advice.

Because of this assignment, I have a much clearer view of what I should be doing in my future once I complete my bachelors degree. I have been motivated. I also learned how to design a profile that focuses on the discipline. The third and the present assignment that I am doing is to create my own website. The website includes: self introduction, memoir, memoirs letter of reflection, and disciplinary report with a reflection. It also includes the designing of the website. This is my first experience in designing a website and I am really thrilled with the experience. Peer reviews really helped me in revising my writing over and over again, and made me think how to make suitable changes. It also helped me to learn from my friends by going through their writing. In case of disciplinary report, peer reviews helped me for designing my profile. Making the profile look inquisitive and justified in the discipline is the priority while designing a profile. Undoubtedly, it has been a great experience taking the course. My writing has improved and I learned about punctuation especially in case of writing dialogs. I have learned how to compose an outline and I feel confident enough to write with the outline in mind. I feel the assignments have been thoughtful and it has prepared me well for writing which is a necessary component of my engineering career field.
