Wilmington, NC Meet the Museum School Instructors! Cameron Art Museums Museum School Open House Showcase, Sun. Dec. 15 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. is your opportunity to meet the instructors, see examples of their work and demonstrations, talk about the classes and to also view the work of students in the Museum School Student Art Show. The Showcase is being held during open registration for Winter Session I, which starts in January 2014. The Museum School Open House Showcase is free and open to the public. MEET THE INSTRUCTORS Over fifteen instructors from the Museum School are displaying some of the supplies used in their classes as they discuss their courses and teaching and learning goals. Various instructors will also be giving demonstrations of multiple techniques used in their courses. This one-day event provides the public the opportunity to meet instructors for the first time or for current students to ask their instructors questions about additional techniques and supplies. Museum School instructors at the open house include: Melanie Walter, Linda Hartman, Alan Cradick, September Krueger, Georgia Mastroieni, Fritz Kapraun, Margo Williams, Bonnie Rogers, Todd Carignan, Melissa Manley, Fritzi Huber, Melony Nye Connor, Tara Santini, Martha Gregory and Donna Moore. CLASSES IN THE MUSEUM SCHOOL AT CAMERON ART MUSEUM With a wide range of classes to choose from, budding and experienced artists have the chance to tailor their learning experience to their needs. Six to eight-week long classes offered in the Winter Session I program include, for example: Art History: Forgotten Women Female Artists Throughout Art History, which is offered Jan. 7 through Feb. 11, 2014. Other adult classes include two types of drawing classes, multiple painting classes by a variety of instructors, a unique Bookmaking and Design class and photography and creative writing classes. And under the Healthy Living program there is a 6 week class in Tai Chi, which teaches the practice that is known to improve balance and mental relaxation while increasing concentration. The Pancoe Art Education Center features 8-week clay classes taught by Master Artist-in-Residence, Hiroshi Sueyoshi.

In addition to the six to eight week classes, there are more than 9 one or two-day workshops held during the Winter Session I. These classes are perfect for students that dont have much time or who would like to try out a class at Museum School. Some of the classes are the familiar drawing, painting, watercolor collage, but some are more unusual including a photography workshop Walk About through Oakdale Cemetery and a printmaking and mixed media workshop called Artistic Journal Keeping. After-school classes for children and youth feature groups for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. These classes highlight the strength of the museum by offering guided tours and scavenger hunts in the galleries along with special activities and hands-on art projects in a variety of media. This gives students a chance to try different types of art in ways they may have never experienced it. Focused classes in painting techniques and hand building with clay are also offered along with a popular class Phone Photography which teaches middle school students how they can get the most from the built in camera on their phone. STUDENT ART SHOWCASE Museum School students are showing their work in an exhibition of artwork created in their Museum School class. From drawing to painting to 3-D and clay artwork this showcase demonstrates the range of talent and results of classroom instruction. The Showcase will be on view in Museum School, Studio I Dec. 15, 2013 Jan. 2, 2014. Free and open to the public.
