While millions of Americans hit the gym three and four times a week, theres a new wave of workouts in town. Maybe running on a sometimes boring treadmill is not for you. Machines may not tickle your workout fancy. Hit the mat, the bar and the studio to try new forms of fitness that are taking the country by stormproviding the perfect balance of mind, body, and spirit while giving people young an old, that confidence boost they need. A 2008 study done by Yoga Journal states that at least 20.4 million Americans are practicing different forms of yoga. Why you ask? Many are drawn to this art form because it provides an overall sunnier outlook on life. Studies show that simply one hour of asanas a sequence of standing, sitting, and balancing poses help raise yogis levels

of brain chemical GABA (low levels of this are linked to depression.) Yoga has also been linked to the disappearance of body aches and better sleep. Simply doing 45-minutes of yoga before bed allow individuals to relax, and turn off the active brain therefore sinking into a deeper sleep. Yoga practice has also been linked to reduced anxiety, increase body awareness, and steamier s-e-x. For these reasons alone, you should hit the mat. Dumbells arent the only way to tone & sculpt.
