The Consulate of Italy in Perth is proud to present

DANTE'S INFERNO
PHOTO EXHIBITION by ITALIAN ARTIST VALENTINA VANNICOLA 3 - 13 December 2013 Showcase Gallery at Central Institute of Technology Corner Aberdeen and Beaufort St, Northbridge Hours 1-6pm Mon-Fri, 1-4pm Sat Free entry
A moving series of photos by Italian artist Valentina Vannicola inspired by the classic literary work of the Italian poet of the Middle Ages Dante Alighieri. The Inferno is the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy. Many artists have been inspired to illustrate Dante's texts through history. Vannicola says: "Imagination is a "circuit breaker". It is the chance we are given to postulate another world, one not necessarily better but different, far from our being here, now, and in this moment. This allows a detachment from ourselves, offering us the opportunity to postulate the "how it could be" or the "how it could have been". Imagination distances us and often, at the end of its journeys, offers us a more objective view of ourselves."
