M2000
The M2000 allows you to upgrade multiple NodeBs simultaneously, and is widely used in the
upgrade.
LMT
The LMT enables you to upgrade only one NodeB for each time, and is supplementary for the
upgrade.
Note:
This guide describes how to upgrade NodeBs controlled by one RNC from the M2000. If there are
multiple RNCs, follow the procedure below to upgrade NodeBs controlled by different RNCs according
to field applications.
2). Multiple NodeBs can simultaneously download the software package or BootROM
software from the M2000 under the specified IPoA bandwidth as follows:

10). If the upgrade fails or the network performance seriously deteriorates in the dial test after
upgrade, fallback of version is recommended.
The fallback depends on the practical situations of the network and customers'
requirement. For details about how to perform the fallback, see 5"Falling Back the

I. Question
How to handle the failure in activating the NodeB BootROM when upgrading the NodeB
through the LMT?
II. Answer
First, list the boards that fail to be activated according to the results of NodeB BootRom
activation. You may choose to activate one board only or all boards of the same type,
depending on the results of NodeB BootRom activation. The latter method is applicable to
situations when there are a number of boards of the same type fail to be activated.

8.4 FAQ3
I. Question
How to clear the fault in abnormal IPoA at the far end and in a broken link between the
M2000 and the NodeB after the NodeB is upgraded?
II. Answer
If the NodeB IPoA address fails to be pinged, refer to the reasons and related solutions below:
Reason 1: The related alarms show that the E1 link between the RNC and the NodeB is
abnormal or faults occur to IMA/UNI/CP ports.
Solution 1: Clear the fault in E1 transmission until all related alarms are cleared.
Reason 2: The MML command of DSP E1T1 executed at the RNC indicates the IMA groups
at the RNC and the NodeB fail to interwork due to the fact that there is an E1 working in
loopback mode in the IMA group of the NodeB configured at the RNC.
Solution 2: Reset the IMA group at the RNC. If the IPoA is still abnormal, reset the IMA
group after removing the E1 working in loopback mode at the RNC.
Reason 3: Field check shows that the RUN/ALM/ACT indicators on the HBBU are
abnormal.
Solution 3: Contact the person in charge of Huawei technical support or NodeB
troubleshooting specialist as soon as possible. Collect related data under the guidance of the
specialist. After getting the approval by the specialist, reset, pull out, install, or replace the

Reason 4: Login to the NodeB through the near-end Ethernet port from the LMT fails. The IP
address cannot be pinged.

8.5 FAQ4
I. Question
How to handle the failure in accessing the NodeB by some UEs after the NodeBs are
upgraded?
II. Answer
Contact the person in charge of Huawei technical support or NodeB troubleshooting specialist
as soon as possible. Collect related data under the guidance of the specialist. Troubleshoot the
failure at the remote end until all related faults are cleared.
Refer to the table below for troubleshooting steps and collected data.

8.6 FAQ5
I. Question
What is the function of the NodeB file server?
II. Answer
To upgrade NodeB software, you must configure the NodeB file server to the M2000. The
server is used to store NodeB software packages and to provide FTP server services for the
NodeB to be upgraded. When upgrading software, the NodeB needs to download the software
package from the file server.
The NodeB file server can be configured either to the M2000 or to the related RNC. The
server, if configured to the RNC, has the following advantages:
1). During the upgrade, the NodeB can download software in batches from the related RNC
at a faster speed than from the file server configured to the M2000.
2). If there is a firewall restricting the NodeB FTP Client from accessing the M2000 server
in the IP network configuration, software fails to be downloaded from the NodeB file
server configured to the M2000. Instead, software can be normally downloaded from the
NodeB file server configured to the RNC.
Therefore, it is suggested to set the default configuration of the NodeB file server to the RNC.
Note:
Before upgrade, you only need to check that the NodeB file server is correctly configured.
If the configuration of the NodeB file server is correct, the system automatically downloads the
NodeB software package from the M2000 server to the NodeB file server without any manual
operations.
8.7 FAQ6
I. Question
Why the download rate can be faster during the upgrade process when "download by
configuration" is selected?
II. Answer
The NodeB software package contains the software for all the boards supported by the
NodeB. Each board type corresponds to one board software package.
In regular mode, the entire NodeB software package is downloaded to the NodeB. However,
in actual application, only some types of boards are configured on the NodeB and not all the
software packages are required.
Therefore, "download by configuration" refers to downloading the required board software
packages from the file server during the upgrade process in compliance with the types of
boards currently configured on the NodeB. This can effectively reduce the total data volume
in the download, minimize the duration, and ensure that the software packages use least
storage space on the hard disk.
Issue 1.00
Download only the required board software from the software package according to the current
NodeB configuration.
Use the valuable maintenance link bandwidth effectively, minimize the duration for
downloading the software, and improve the upgrade efficiency.
Use the storage space on the hard disk of the NodeB effectively and avoid waste of storage
space for software not to be used.
The download rate in this mode will be faster when the NodeB has boards of fewer types.

The NodeB of V100R007 supports "download by configuration" for the flash on the boards but does
not support "download by configuration" for the BootROM. The NodeB BootROMs must be
downloaded in regular mode.
