Information Technology and Internet

System Software
System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computers hardware and application programs. If we

think of the computer system as a layered model, the system software is the interface between the hardware and user
applications. The operating system (OS) is the best-known example of system software. The OS manages all the other programs in a computer. Different Types of System Software Programs Boot Firmware Database Management Systems Output Interface Virtual Machine Monitors Link Editors Loaders Shell Utility Software

Basic App. and Specialized App.

Basic applications are also called general-purpose

Common types:Word processors Spreadsheets Database management systems Presentation graphics Specialized application Also known as special-purpose applications

Includes thousands of other programs more narrowly focused on specific disciplines and occupations

Output
Anything that comes out of a computer. Output can be meaningful information or gibberish, and it can appear in a variety of forms -- as binarynumbers, as characters, as pictures, and as printed pages. Output devicesinclude display screens, loudspeakers, and printers. Output Devices: Any machine capable of representing information from a computer. This includes display screens, printers, plotters, and synthesizers. An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to transmit or communicate the results of data processing by information processing. These devices include: speakers, monitors or projectors.

Computers
There are a lot of terms used to describe computers. Most of these words imply the size, expected use or capability of the computer. While the term computer can apply to virtually any device that has a microprocessor in it, most people think of a computer as a device that receives input from the user through a mouse or keyboard, processes it in some fashion and displays the result on a screen.

Internet, Web
Internet The Internet is a massive network of networks, a networking infrastructure. It connects millions of computers together globally,

forming a network in which any computer can communicate with any other computer as long as they are both connected to the
Internet. Information that travels over the Internet does so via a variety of languages known as protocols. Web The World Wide Web, or simply Web, is a way of accessing information over the medium of the Internet. It is an informationsharing model that is built on top of the Internet. The Web uses the HTTP protocol, only one of the languages spoken over the

Internet, to transmit data. Web services, which use HTTP to allow applications to communicate in order to exchange business
logic, use the the Web to share information. The Web also utilizes browsers, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, to access Web documents called Web pages that are linked to each other viahyperlinks. Web documents also contain graphics, sounds, text and video. A computer networks, or data network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data. In computer

networks, networked computing devices pass data to each other along data connections. The connections (network links)
between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet. Network computer devices that originate, route and terminate the data are called network nodes. Nodes can include hosts such as servers and personal computers, as well as networking hardware. Two devices are said to be networked when a device is able to exchange information with another device.

Computer networks support applications such as access to the World Wide Web, shared use of application and storage servers,
