options replaced with a
context sensitive process
driven ribbon. This overhaul
greatly improves usability
and makes OPTIMA even
more intuitive to use.
Popular actions can also be
pinned to the quick access
toolbar so they will always
be available to the user
regardless of which screens
they are currently using.

SANDBOX
The Sandbox provides a selfcontained area within the
OPTIMA system that enables
engineers to perform
advanced analysis on
production data within a
controlled environment. It
also allows enrichment of

NEW GUI
For v7.0 the OPTIMA GUI
has undergone a complete
overhaul, replacing the
component based GUI, with
a modern Windows ribbon
interface. Menus have been
simplified and the many

ROLE BASED
ACCESS CONTROL
Role based access control
(RBAC) has been introduced
to manage the application
permissions of the OPTIMA
client. This replaces the five
user types used previously.
The RBAC concept allows
roles to be created which are
made up of many lower-level
permissions. These roles can
then be assigned to users to
control the users level of
application access. An
additional profiles level has
also been added to provide
further flexibility. Profiles
are used to group together
roles so that they can be
mapped to a job function
or user type.
USER HOME TAB
AND FAVOURITES
A Home Tab has been added
to the OPTIMA GUI for v7.0.
On this tab, groups of
analysis objects (favourites),
such as Reports, Module

Combinations and Work

Areas, can be placed, making
these objects available to a
user within one click of
launching OPTIMA. Favourite
Groups can be defined and
assigned to specific user
profiles allowing all users
allocated to that profile to
access pre-selected favourites.
Users are also able to create
their own personal favourites
or select other pre-defined
ones.
LDAP INTEGRATION
AND SINGLE SIGN-ON
In v7.0 users can be
authenticated for access
either through an OPTIMA
database account or via LDAP.
The use of LDAP
authentication introduces
the concept of Single Sign-On.
Users can now elect to be
passed straight through to
the OPTIMA system without
being prompted for their
user details.

SNMP AUTO DISCOVERY

OPTIMAs support for IP
based networks has been
further enhanced in v7.0
with the automation of device
discovery. This incorporates
discovery, recognition,
and optionally, collection
initiation. There is also an
API to allow devices to be
added if their configuration
is already available.
PARALLEL REPORT
EXECUTION
Users are now able to execute
multiple reporting objects in
parallel, allowing long running
reports to be executed in the
background while continuing
with other tasks. The number
of parallel report executions
and maximum memory
allocation can be configured
ensuring a single user does
not consume excessive
system resource.

KEY FEATURES

DATA MEDIATION AND

MANAGEMENT
AIRCOMs OPTIMA has a
powerful and scalable data
mediation layer capable of
loading over 5TB of data per
day. Network data is
gathered from sources such
as an OMC or via direct
element interrogation using
SNMP data acquisition. Data
within the database is further
processed to provide busy
hour data as well as
summary data. The OPTIMA
Data Quality program reports
on the integrity of the data
within the database including
availability, completeness,
load status and nullness.
Archive and maintenance
programs delete and archive
data according to configured
data retention parameters.
REPORTER
OPTIMA Reporter provides
a flexible and user friendly
environment for creating,
organising and managing the
distribution of reports. User
friendly wizards and
templates are provided to
simplify ad-hoc report
creation. Advanced features
such as sub-reports and
cross-tabs provide the
functions to accommodate
even the most complex
reporting requirements.
OPTIMA will also allow users
to create Excel based reports
where the output
is stored in a user defined
Excel template. This option
gives the user the ability
to use Excels powerful
analytical functionality on

data generated directly

from the database.
A key area of OPTIMA
Reporter is the scheduling
functionality, which allows
for flexible automatic report
distribution to different
locations, for example via
email, to a web-site, file
server, laptop or a printer.
INSPECTOR
Inspector provides the main
interface for real-time
analysis and troubleshooting
within OPTIMA. It allows a
user to display KPIs for the
date range and network
elements they wish to
investigate. Data can be
displayed in both a data grid,
or graphically on a number
of user specified chart types.
Multiple charts can be
plotted to allow easy
comparison of data across
elements and over time.
In addition you can link
modules to provide powerful
drill down functions to help
pinpoint problems, both
across time and network
elements.
ALARMS
Two types of Alarms can
be configured; Performance
Alarms and System Alarms.
Performance Alarms can be
based on any data loaded
into the database. These
alarms can be generated
either by checking raw data
during loading, known as
Threshold Crossing Alerts
(TCAs) or by querying the
loaded data. Alarms can
perform complex analytics,

including trending and

profiling. System Alarms
allow issues anywhere in
the OPTIMA system to be
quickly identified. Alarm
notification can be via email
or SMS or more commonly
an alarm will be sent to a
fault management system by
forwarding SNMP traps from
the OPTIMA SNMP Agent.
KPI MANAGER
OPTIMA stores all raw
performance counters
generated by the network.
However for reporting
purposes it is typical to
consolidate the raw counters
into Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs). Taking
this approach ensures all
reporting objects are
consistently presenting the
same information, with any
changes made to a KPI
immediately reflected in all
reporting objects without
the need to update them.
The OPTIMA KPI Manager
allows Users with the
appropriate permission level
to define KPIs that are then
available for all Users. The
KPI definitions may include
other KPIs within their
equations, enabling high
level KPIs to be built up
simply and quickly, with any
changes made to the lower
level KPIs immediately
reflected. OPTIMA provides
a KPI mapping facility
between vendors. With this
option users can use a single
KPI for all corresponding
elements within a multivendor network.
