Report On Maruti Suzuki Industrial visit

INTRODUCTION:Maruti Suzuki India ltd formally known as Maruti Udhyog LTD was established in February 1981, though the actual production commenced in 1983 with the Maruti 800, based on the Suzuki alto Kaiser which at the time was only modern car available in India. Maruti Udhyog is the highest car manufacturer in Asia, outside Japan and Korea. : 1 of the most successful company since its inception. : keys of first Maruti car was handed over to Mr. Harpal Singh of Delhi by then prime minister Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on December, 1983. : 11 Companies in the passenger car market in India. Maruti holds 60% of the market share.

FULL RANGE OF CARS:13 Brands 150 Variants----- Maruti 800, ritz, Sx4 Sedan, Grand Vitra, Desire, AStar etc.

OBJECTIVE OF THE VISIT:The main objective of the industrial visit is to know about the engineering being practiced in the MISL manage their operations and how the resources are managed and to know how they perform their work to make the vehicle. It is educational visit for Mechanical Engineering students

REPORT
On 29 Nov. the B.tech students of mechanical branch of Vaish Collage Of Engineering, Rohtak got this opportunity to visit the leading automobile company of India which is Maruti Udhyog Private limited., Gurgaon. Maruti Company has their factories in the various parts of the country but we got the opportunity to visit the Gurgaon Factory which has 3 plants. Recently, they have also opened a factory in Manesar in an area of 600 acres and the production capacity at Manesar is 3 lakh car per annum but the company intends to increase the capacity up to 5 lakh car per annum. It manufactures the cars like swift diesel & petrol, Sx4, A- Star.

Whereas the Gurgaon factory is spreaded in 297 acres of land and has a production capacity of 7 lakh per annum. Maruti supplies its car in 5 continents and more than 116 countries. Maruti is also considered to be No. 1 Brand of producing small cars. Maruti has more than 7, 00,000 million cars running on the roads presently.

Around 12.30 pm, we reached the factory and settled down in the H.R. Division. Mr. Vijay Malothra was our guide who introduces us to the company trainers. We were shown the power presentation under which ----In the year 1986 1 lakh vehicle on the roads and 8 million vehicles on the Indian roads. World class vehicles at its plant.

Activity :IDTR, Delhi (driving institute by MUL) A new vehicle is manufactured in every 16 seconds. The production volume per year has been as follows:-

2003-04 470908 units. 2004-05 540415 units. 2005-06 572094 units 2006-07 667048 units. 2007-08 777017 units. 2008-09 774738 units.

PRODUCTION PROCESS IN MARUTI SUZUKI


The production process in Maruti Suzuki is set. It works in assembly line processing and involves the following steps: Blanking Stamping Welding Painting Assembly Final inspection

Blanking: - making of blanks from steels foils by blanking process. Stamping: - making of panels from blanks by stamping. Dies:: to give the shape to the car models. Welding: - making of body parts chassis, doors. Robots: spot welding (15 number of spot welding...) White body: complete welded white body.

Cathode electro deception- (paint area): 1st coat of paint on white body.1st coat is same for all body. Intermediate/top coat (computerized) 2nd & 3rd coat after 1st coat. Heating zone in paint shop. Touch upline/final inspection: final inspection of painted body. Assembly line:o Trim line: - fitting of lighter component viz. Wiring harnesses and head lamp, A.C., etc. o Chasses line: - fitment of heavier components like axes, brakes etc.

o Engineer assembly line component in the m/c shop. 1. Cam shaft 2. Crank shaft 3. Cylinder head 4. Cylinder block 5. Transmission case o Final line: - fitment of seats, ac filling gas & other final adjustment. o Vehicle inspection process. o First appearance. o Drum tester (inspection of brakes performance and other function of vehicle). o Emission check: - checking of emission conformity. o Shower tester: - endurance testing of vehicle to pass the water at 1.5kg/cm2 volume. o Final appearance tester: - final roll out of the vehicle after final inspection. o Handover to sales and dispatch- handing over to sales and dispatch for delivery to dealer. Our first shipment to A-Star to Europe to Mundra Port Total process time from Blanking To Final Rolling out of vehicle Is 12 Hours

OBSERVATION:MISL has its value system properly established and due to this it is able to maintain its image in people mind. People working in the MISL are very dedicated towards their works and they feel MISL as their home and organizational goals as personal ones.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS:Visit to the MISL was an amazing visit where the engineering functions were being practiced and it was a great experiences going there. We can conclude that since MISL has a good image attached to it, Thus it should try and maintain its image, because in todays time the people are more brands conscious and look for value for their money and hence with such a great brand name established for them, it is real advantages to them and with the they can reach to the new height.

1. Which is the recent plant set up by the MISL? - At MANASER, new plant has been produced that has a land of 600 acres and produces 3 lakh car per annum. 2. To prepare a new car, how many body parts are used? - In the body 8000-10000 body parts are used to make a new car. 3. Is MISL is involved in any social activity? - Yes, IDTR, Delhi is a driving institute runs by MISL at very low cost.
