Objective: 1. Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. 2. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. (Dont use photos or live trace in your new logo) 3. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design. (Photos are okay on stationery.) 4. Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but trim only .125) 5. Apply typography rules keeping small copy. 6. Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space. 7. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens. Process: For the letterhead, I started with making the fish. I used the ellipse tool to create three circles and then grouped them together. I used the brush tool to create the waves, and then changed the color to blue. Then I used the type tool to add the contact info, as well as the company name. For the business cards, I created two 3.52 cards and then copied my fish logo and the waves. I copied and pasted the text onto the backside of the card. How the logo represents the company: The logo represents the company because it is a fish, and the aquarium has fish.

Logos

Description: I was asked to create three completely different logos for a company to try and see which logo communicates the company best. November 1, 2013 Programs used: Ilustrator and indesign Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson Objecitves: 1. Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image (at least 3 new logos). 2. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. 3. Use only the tools of Illustrator. (No photos on logo page) 4. Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page. How the logo represents the company: The first logo represents the company because it has fun color and flare, and that goes along with the word kooky. The second logo represents the company because there is a cupcake and that is what the company sells. The last logo, represents the company because when I think of a cupcake I think of a cherry on top. Process: I began by brainstorming various types of of logos and drawing sketches on paper to see what looked best. Then, I used adobe illustrator. For the first logo, I used the type tool for the text, then changed the color using swatches. I used a ellipse tool to create the decorative pink ovals on each side of Kooky. For the next logo, I began by making a cupcake out of a rounded rectangle tool and a circle, and a line. I then grouped all the shapes together so the cupcake would be easier to move around. I then inserted text. On the last logo, I typed the company name first, deleted the o and created a cherry in place of the o.

Imaging
October 18, 2013 Programs used: Photoshop Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson

Description: I was trying to demonstrate good photography and image editing skills. My potential employer wants to see if I can take good quality photos with sharp exposure and good composition as well as performing basic edits such as cropping, applying filters, and desaturation.

Objectives: 1.Learn basic photography skills. 2.Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. 3.Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150 4.Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. 5.Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. 6.Desaturate the selected portion of the image. 7.Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: The first thing I did was take the picture of the piano. I tried to get an interesting angle and apply my focus on the foreground. I took the image and uploaded it to photoshop and then changed the size to a 66. Once cropped, I applied desaturation throughout the whole image so it was completely black and white. Then I applied a color daubs filter.

Brochure

Description: My employer wanted me to design a full-color, folding brochure to help promote the company product. December 6, 2013 Program(s) / Tools used: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop. Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson Objectves: 1. Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. 2. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. 3. Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.) 4. Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Process: The first thing I did was dividing the document in equal thirds, so that it would make a clean trifold. Then I copied my logo that I created using adobe illustrator, and placed it in the document. I created the bubbles using the ellipse tool and changed the color of those to create a flow. Then I inserted my text. after this I found images online that related to what I was talking about in the brochure. I placed the images and then added captions. Before inserting the whale image, I clipped it using photoshop. Then I placed it on my brochure and applied a text wrap.

Montage
October 25, 2013 Programs used: Photoshop Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson

Description: I was in charge of creating a poster using images. A montage is a collection of pictures blended together as well as text.

Objectives: 1. Learn to manage Photoshop layers. 2. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images) 3. Use filters. (Apply at least one) 4. Apply appropriate typography. 5. Choosing good quality images. 6. Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice) 7. Unifying a piece with a consistent theme Process: The first thing I did to create this montage was find the image of the track from the internet and download it. Then I found a nike swoosh image and I added it on top of the track layer. I sized the image, and then adjusted to opacity so you are able to see the track behind it as well as see the definite outline of the swoosh. I added a text box and changed it to fit the size of the grass. I adjusted the opacity of the text as well. I applied a smart sharpen filter to the background.

Flier

Description: This is a black in white flier. I was given the logo, picture and information. I was asked to make a new layout that was more entertaining and inviting to read. October 4, 2013 Program used: inDesign Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson Objectives: 1. Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. 2. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. 3. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. 4. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process: I used the rectangle tool and the fill tool to make the rectangle behind the text Graduate. Then in inserted the picture as well as the logo. I made a text box to put the body copy in. I created small black boxes to create a sense of repetition.

Event Ad
October 12, 2013 Program used: Microoft Word Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson

Description: I was asked to create an Event ad using word for a fundraiser hosted by the chamber of commerce.

Objectives: 1. Find, scan and import a high-quality image. 2. reate a full-bleed design 3. Use text boxes for layout in Word. 4. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: I began by choosing a photo from a magazine and scanning it to the computer. Once scanned, i adjusted the pictures pixels. I then started to create the event ad. I inserted text boxes to create the title and body copy. I used a rectangle behind two of the text boxes to create contrast and to make the text easier to read. I used a transparency effect on both of the rectangles and softened the edges. For the image, I cropped out the background by using the remove background tool. After the event ad was finished, I saved it as a PDF then as a JPEG. Converting the PDF to a JPEG was a little challenging, but I finally got it to work. I enjoyed this project because I am familiar and comfortable with word.

Webpage

Description: I created this webpage to explain the process of creating my logo, and why I did the things I did. November 22, 2013 Programs used: Text wrangler, Photoshop Course: Comm 130 Section 6 Instructor: Julie Peterson Objectives: 1. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. (Write a minimum of 200 words to describe the process of creating your logo, including rationale for color choices, appeal to target audience, design skills, and other pertinent information.) 2. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. (Use TextWrangler (Macintosh) or NotePad++ (Windows)) 3. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Must include all required tags (Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), & body. As well as tag that links to external style sheet. With in the body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, hr, and a (link to blog) tags.) 4. Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the Cascading Style Sheet (css) provided in I-Learn to add page formatting that complements the logo design, by changing at least the following: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, Font Families and add at least one css comment. 5. Identify hex colors for web design. (Find and use hex colors to match your logo) Process: The first thing I did was take the logo and change the pixel size in photoshop. Then I started the html coding. I put in the head first, then within the head, the title, link and meta. Then I started the body, which had h1 and h2, and an unordered list as well as paragraphs. Underneath the h1 I put my logo. After I had the html formatted, I filled out all the information. Once the html was done I started the CSS. I chose my fonts and then transferred my logo into photoshop to grab the hex codes. The word count on this webpage is 263 words. I used contrast in the colors of orange and blue. I also left the background of the body copy white to create a form of white space.
