Justin Uy De Leon Argumentative Essay How would a person feel if the law deprives him of his right to the

most coveted privacy? What will a person do if the law compromises his safety and the peace of the people around him? How will a person be treated if the law and media affects his everyday life and judgements? These statements showcases the questions running through my mind about the issue between our politicians and the Freedom of Information Bill. The said bill is one of the most controversial throughout our congress history for it covers a lot of sensitive things about the government officials and the people the Philippines. It is for the liberty of Information yet it leaks confidential ownerships and other assets of our prized politicians to the public. I personally disagree to the idea of the FOI Bill elevating in to a law due to the following reasons: Our government officials will be dispossessed of their right to privacy which is one of the most valuable rights that a person could have, their safety and the security of the people around them will be conceded, and the media might cause the devastation of their precious lives. The aforementioned bill requires our politicians to present their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Owners Equity to the public. By doing so, every valued ownerships such as cars, businesses, lands and real estate properties will be made known for the people of the Philippines. Bank accounts and every personal transactions that are meant for their eyes only will now be intended for everyones vision. Not a single asset and proprietorship will be missed, not a single debt, receivables, payables will be overlooked. Personal and professional information will be shared, linked and

crossed. The line of privacy and confidentiality will be crossed, therefore denying them of the ability to control their own personal information and the capability of allowing and rejecting access to others. Let us remember that having privacy and personal space is not a privilege, it is a right that our politicians need in deserve in order to live a fair and just life. Having said my first argument, the issue will be linked to my second argument, their personal safety. Without concealment and solitude, the chances of threat and peril upsurges. With everyone knowing the amount of money that our politicians have in their bank account, the cars that they drive, the houses and condominium units that they own, hazards and dangers will be everywhere and it can strike them anywhere at any given time. The position that they hold does not justify the fact that their safekeeping will be disregarded. Not to mention that not only their safety is compromised but also the protection of the people living around them and the people that they love and cherish. They will be bombarded with fear and anxiety in their everyday lives and that will surely affect their work in our government. Any type of crime has a chance in happening to them; murder, kidnapping, rape, theft, psychological threats, and many others for in our society nowadays, technology is misused and a persons mind may prove to be tainted and greedy sometimes. Lastly, depriving our politicians and their family to a safe environment and habitat is immoral because feeling secured and safeguarded is one of the most prized things in life for it spells the difference between life and death. My third point of argument will be about the power and misuse of media and the information that it releases. We cant reject and deny the fact that our world is driven

and controlled by mass media. Social sites, the news around televisions, radios and newspapers, music and movies affect the way we think and the way we act. In our society nowadays, we cant help but see an intriguing issue about a politician and the way we see and think about that said person will be changed and stained forever. Let us all remember that these stories are not always true. These are sometimes altered and revised, sometimes to fulfill ones desire to create his own version, just like in the game of Pass the Message. With that said, I think that it will be unfair and prejudicial to destroy ones life due to misused information and exaggerated stories. Everything will be affected and it may lead to the destruction of their life, their character and everything that they have. Some people may disagree with my perspective and point of view. It is likely that majority will favour this bill for it has the capacity to stop the widespread corruption in our country. Some people might think that this has been the long awaited answer to the issue that keeps on plaguing and contaminating our government and country for years. I would just like to remind everyone that preventing greed starts in ourselves and the little things will surely make a difference. Also, as a person, I believe that being safe in a wonderful home, possessing the right to privacy, and with no fear running through your mind is a privilege that every individual should enjoy. It is very much immoral and dishonest to deprive a person to these things for in the first place, right to safety and privacy is an inborn right. Corruption may prove to be a waterloo in Philippine history, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in trying to control and stop this forsaken issue. There is nothing erroneous in making a way and starting a new day in a just and fair

government. What is wrong is that it is too immoral to remove a persons privacy and security just because of the authority that he holds. Whats more depraving is not only theirs is compromised, but also of their families and the people they cherish. Let us all evoke that our world and society must be fair, and fairness means everyone gets what they need the most. I am sure that everyone, including our government officials, craves for solitude and safekeeping because in living a fulfilling and a distress-free life, it is what we need and it is an essential in survivability.
