My Authentic Self has a Sailor Mouth

by Amy E. Smith
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Oooooh what a great question! For me, its all about my business contributing to my life fulfillment. It all comes down to how much FUN Im having. I feel the most expansive freedom when my work is fun, contributing to my fulfillment, and I still feel like the boss as opposed to the employee. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Early on I felt pulled between my client load and internet marketing. I felt like I needed a dynamic website, social media plan, digital products and virtual classes, while keeping a full client load of 16+ one-onone clients. I started to unravel and had no time for anything but work. I radically shifted my model and dramatically increased my rates (which was scary!) so I could work with fewer clients and free time for other interesting projects. I decided on a plan and worked the plan. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? My biggest challenge is figuring out how to create consistent income and Im still experimenting. I went from a corporate, structured environment to being my own boss, sitting at my computer in my jammies and wondering what-the-hell to do with my work day. There was a time when I would severely judge myself for what I was or wasnt doing in my business. It took a long time to figure out the best way to organize myself, generate leads in a business pipeline, create balance and continue to enjoy my work. Giving me the permission to take as long as I need to figure this whole thing out has been paramount. Your business is completely unique to YOU, so no one else can really give you the perfect blueprint. Give yourself the permission to do it YOUR way. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? The most frustrated Ive ever been with myself was when I first decided to raise my rates. I felt so much anxiety about it and could actually see that I was the only one suffering. I was the one making it so challenging. No one else was in my way. Only me. And, I knew I needed to just DECIDE that I was worth my new rates. But, damn if I didnt dig my heals in. I overcame it by allowing myself space to feel what I feel. I gave myself time to feel unsure, to cry, to second guess my worth, and to be upset. I processed the best way I process which is by talking about it with my soul tribe: people whom I greatly trust. Give yourself the time andspace to feel what you feel, dont judge it, and allow room for your process. You are being the worst boss you ever had when When I fall into what I have termed self-inflicted overwhelm, I usually tend towards saying I dont have time and what I am saying is I dont have time for are things that really are the most important in my life. For instance, I will find myself getting super overloaded with work and Ill say to myself You dont have time for that workout or You dont have time to call your brother or You dont have time to meet up with your bestie. Its a cue that I need to re-prioritize Im placing too much importance and emphasis on the wrong things. You are being the best boss you ever had when I can celebrate making sales while Im hanging with friends, participating in theatre, working out, or hanging with Mr. Smith. It lights my soul to think Ive created a business where people get the support they need at a price they can afford, while I am fully

Inside the Jungle Magazine PARTICIPATING in my own life. I absolutely LOVE finishing a great acting class, checking my phone, and seeing I made money AND someones life is about to shift because I am able to reach them with my work! So yummy! What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? OMG GET SUPPORT! Find a mentor or coach you trust. Find a mastermind group. It takes WAAAAAY longer to go the trial-and-error route. Check out EVERYTHING you invest in. Make wise choices. Do your due diligence. Find those you want to emulate and hire them. Its more costly to try to figure it all out on your own. Also, I suggest developing a spiritual practice of some sort, whatever that looks like for you. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? At the inception of my business, I had a bit of trepidation about being bold and profane. Im in the business of being my authentic self and I like to say my authentic self has a sailor mouth. But, in the beginning, I felt I needed to cater to EVERYONE. I learned MY people gravitate to me the more I step into my authenticity. If I resonated with my own message and delivery, then I knew there are others out there who

Your Audience Cant Wait to Hear from You! would, too. I committed to being the most authentic, raw, unabashed, brazen and unapologetic Amy I could be, believing I could cultivate that in my audience. It has been damn-near amazing since I made that simple choice. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Take heart. You are not alone. No matter where you are in creating what you desire, others have been exactly where you are. They did it, you can do it. Work at YOUR pace with YOUR voice. Get connected to WHY youre creating what youre creating. Find your soul tribepeople who support and champion you. Remember, your audience CANT WAIT to hear from you. You are compelled to share your message for a reason. Trust that and get shit handled!

The Universe cannot play a bigger game until you do.

Comparison is the

Root of All Pain

by Angella Johnson

What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Entrepreneurial freedom really means total accountability for your results. This is why some people talk about running a business and not everyone does it. I have the freedom to choose my income, how I spend my time, who I spend it with and what I do moment to moment. I didnt always have this freedom though. I went from running in one rat race when I worked in corporate to running another rat race attempting to look like I had everything together when I first started my business. It was only until I was vulnerable, that I didnt have everything perfect, that I experienced true freedom. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? My business has grown primarily by hosting live events. Preparing for a live event in addition to serving current clients, marketing, managing projects and being present to life outside of business, always brings stress. When there are literally hundreds of things I could do with my time, what always gets me back to focus is getting quiet and being honest with myself about what are the top money-making actions I can take. Then I determine what to delegate and everything else gets put on the back burner. When you realize the world will not end if you micromanage every detail, you are much more productive. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? I thought I would feel different about money if I had a six-figure business and boy was I wrong. My money problems grew with the more money I made. When I got serious about having money dates, having powerful

conversations with my money commitments and tracking my incoming and outgoing cash flow, then my money story changed. Additionally, I have typically been an 11th hour creator and while miracles can happen in the 11th hour, effective marketing requires proactive and consistent planning and execution. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? It was my live event in the fall of 2012. I had one part-time assistant who was brand new to the world of entrepreneurs and events in this industry. We did everything ourselves, including dcor for the tables, helping sponsors set up booths and much more. I fired myself as the event planner and got serious for my next event. So now I just show up with my vision and I have a team of people to make it happen. This way I can be my genius and make the real contribution I want to make. You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im staying up late to complete technical tasks because I didnt effectively plan and delegate. You are being the best boss you ever had when People email me out of the blue wanting to work with me and when Im teaching a room full of people who are getting breakthroughs. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Being the best boss youve ever had will stretch you,

Inside the Jungle Magazine pull you and YOU are the only person who will get back up and move forwardor quit. When you move forward after falling is the best feeling that no one can ever give you but you. You have to move forward because having a glimpse of your vision and then going back is more painful than moving forward despite the bumps and bruises you will get on this rollercoaster of an amazing journey. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? EVERY time I host a live event I have a freak out (a.k.a. breakdown). Its about me being truly visible and up-leveling how I contribute to the world. I have my team of people to call on for supportive guidance, including spiritual teachers and colleagues who are genuine in supporting me. I also know whatever feels like a breakdown will result in a massive breakthrough worth it every single time. What has been the biggest challenge on your journey of entrepreneurship and how did you overcome it? I woke up one day in 2012 and realized that I hated my business. I had bought into the hype of one size fits all and in order to be successful you HAVE to do it this way. The result was I abandoned my intuition and lost inspiration for my big WHY. Getting back to my center and trusting myself was honestly one of the most challenging things Ive done since I started my

Comparison is the Root of All Pain business in 2008. But having gone through it, I now have a business that I love, I work with ideal clients and my income is growing. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Comparison is the root of all pain. When you compare your business to other people you will always feel bad and youll attempt to do things because you should instead of because you feel authentically inspired to do it. When you compare yourself to how you think you should be, you will always fall short. Remember that you are right on time and you can do this. Create your big vision and only step in the direction that takes you closer to that vision.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Expect to Be Scared, Expect to Have Doubts

What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? After spending 30 years in a corporate career, entrepreneurial freedom means Im free to live and work on my own terms. I can innovate, take risks, generate new ideas and solutions to the problems so many women business leaders face. I can step fully into being the influencer I have been for so long, but unfettered by judgments, rules, and opinions of others. For better or worse, its me out there on that stage, on the page or on the airways. The only limits I have are the artificial ones I place on myself because of doubt, fear or self-limiting beliefs (and thats the opposite of freedom). Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? To tell the truth, spreading myself too thin can be my downfall. I want to accomplish so much both in work and in life that I frequently can take too much on. I have two practices that get me back on track: 1. I am brutal with my to-do list. I review what absolutely has to get done and money-generating activities have to come first. 2. I am smart about calendaring my goals and checking and adjusting my priorities daily. To ensure I am as healthy and happy as I can be, I schedule my meals into my calendar. I eat based on how I want to feel, so I always have 30 minutes set aside to cook and eat a meal that is going to support the work I have ahead of me. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? My biggest challenge is working alone. Im a big

collaborator and always liked working in teams. I make up for this by ensuring I have colleagues to mastermind with on regular basisother women entrepreneurs who can offer me advice, support and guidance. THAT has been invaluable. Money is my last frontiertracking my inflows and outflows and identifying my drains is a new skill Im building. Im shifting my money mindset from the fear of not having enough and the belief that as an entrepreneur I will naturally earn less than I did in my high-powered corporate career to one where Im learning to trust that if I pursue my goals purposefully, powerfully, and soulfully, I will live abundantly well. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? Im frustrated at me the boss when I let resistance get in the way and procrastinate to the last minute. Im always evaluating how it felt and noting what I want to do next time. My liked best and next time lists I learned from my coach have become indispensible tools. You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im not prioritizing my business development activities first. You are being the best boss you ever had when I stick to my schedule. When I make time to meditate each day and eat healthy meals that support my body,

What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but she isnt sure how? Hire someone who has already been there and done that who can help you chart this new course and hold you accountable. Tap into your own inner truth when that little voice inside of your head chimes in and says, I cant or I dont know how. Take a page in your journal and make two columns. On the left side, write down all the things that little voice inside your head is saying. No matter how dark and scary, list all the fears and doubts. In the second column write, My higher self knows and list all you know to be true, right here, right now, in your soul. If you do this, you will

Expect to Be Scared, Expect to Have Doubts find yourself coaching yourself out of the dark spot into the light. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I believe if you arent scared, you arent reaching far enough. I try to live outside of my comfort zone and push beyond perceived limits. Thats where living really happens. Expect to be scared; expect to have doubts. Notice them when they arise, dont try to ignore them or they will get louder and scarier. Take baby steps if you need to, but keep putting one foot in front of the other and before you know it, you will have achieved your goal. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Always follow up on messages the universe is sending to you from others. We too easily dismiss what doesnt feel right to us because it falls outside of our comfort zone. When someone says, Call so and so I think you two might have a lot in common. I always do. Some of the best partnerships and business ideas I have generated have come from following up on ideas from my friends and colleagues. The universe supports us always. Whatever you seek, whatever you need is usually right in front of you if you open your eyes and ears.

Youll figure it out. You WILL figure it out.

Leave Your Ego at the Door

by Florence Grunfelder
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? My definition of entrepreneurial freedom is to live my life in alignment with what feels true and real for me. I used to be obsessed with making it in my business so even though I had clients, was making money and appeared successful, I was not really happy. I realized that honouring my creativity and expressing it was fundamental to my well-being. So I have freedom because I have made the conscious choice, at this point in my life, to only work 2 days a week and to spend the other days pursuing meaningful creative projects (even if they have nothing to do with my business). Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Shortly after I got clear on my area of expertise which is women, money and self-esteem, great opportunities started to show up in my life. I wanted to say YES! to all of them Yes! to having my own show on the local radio channel, Yes! to all the speaking gigs, Yes! to doing joint projects with every single person that wanted to partner up with me. It was all too much and seriously exhausting! To get focus, I took a step back and asked myself What do I want? I also: 1. Created a vision board so that I could get superclear on my big dreams + goals and I pinned it in my office as a daily reminder. 2. Asked for help (I hired a VA). 3. Got a life outside of workI took up yoga, learned how to cook, started to throw dinner parties. The more I enjoyed myself outside of work, the less I felt stressed out about my business and was then able to make healthier and saner decisions about what was right for me and my business.

There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Theres a bunch of them! Wanting to cram too many things on my to-do list. Saying no and worrying the other person will be disappointed in me or thinking Im missing out on something potentially amazing. Trusting my intuition. Letting my ego get in the way. Admitting I still dont have all my shit together, despite having an impressive collection of self-help/ personal development books. My biggest challenge has been handling what I perceived as failure. Back in 2010, I spent $7k to be a certified life coach and launched my life coaching business. After a year, I realized I didnt enjoy life coaching and spent $2.5k to become a money coach. After a year of that, I realized I didnt enjoy coaching! I overcame this by changing my perspective on failure and entrepreneurship. Once I fully accepted the journey is not a straight line and I have a choice on how I view the journey, then I learned to relax and trust myself. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? About a year into my business, I wasnt where I wanted to be. I was working really hard but not making the money I thought Id be making or having the lifestyle I dreamed of. I wanted to prove to myself I could be successful so worked even harder, thinking this was the answer. WRONG! I became a workaholic, perfectionist, slave-driver kind of boss. I overcame it by getting rid of all the crap I was saying to myself. I stopped watching what everyone else was doing. I got grounded and reconnected to my purpose in life. I took the time to check in with myself on a daily

Inside the Jungle Magazine basis, something as simple as asking Hey, Florence, how are you feeling? Is everything OK? and then listened to whatever showed up. But most importantly, I stopped doing whatever felt like a massive energy drain. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I dont give myself the permission to take a pee break. You are being the best boss you ever had when I feel unstoppable and ready to conquer the world! What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but she isnt sure how? Whenever you feel stuck, scared or unsure then youre coming from a place of fear and worry. Youre in your headprobably overanalyzing and having thoughts of lack and limitation. Ask yourself: How is this

Leave Your Ego at the Door working for you? Then go back to your Big Why, the reason behind you wanting to start your business in the first place. Reconnect with your passion and imagine yourself using your very own unique gifts, talents and abilities. See yourself receiving love notes from happy clients thanking you for the huge impact youve made in their life. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I really put myself out there whenever I get asked to speak. Before taking the stage, Im super nervous, need to pee 300 times and have knots in my stomach. Once I hit the stage, my fear disappears because my focus shifts from me to the audience. I used to try really hard to come across as a perfect and polished speaker. Now Im okay with tripping over wires, having totally blank moments and admitting to the audience I just bit my tongue. Its about leaving my ego at the door. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Your self-worth is connected to your net worth. Your mindset, self-esteem and money are interconnected. How you feel about yourself influences what you charge. The good news is no matter your financial situation, you have the power to change it. You deserve to be happy and successful and to make an abundant living doing what you love.

"Self-worth comes from one thinga belief you are worthy."

Feel Afraid
and

Do It Anyway
by Gina Bell
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? My definition goes beyond creating success on my terms or doing what I love and loving what I do. Its that AND its about being a business owner versus a service provider. Its about creating income in a way that does not stop if Im removed from the equation. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Because Im multi-passionate this tends to happen a lot. Its always when I take on too much at the same time. At times like this all of it tends to get diluted. When this starts to happen I know I need to make a choice. What to focus onfirstnot forever (which is an important distinction for multipotentialites). There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? A few things come to mind. First, the comparison trap. Its so easy to slide down this rabbit hole. Ive watched too many great ideas get sacrificed on the altar of comparison, including some of my own. Second, being judged and/or rejected. I know Ive slid down this rabbit hole when Im procrastinating for no good reason. Its human nature to want to be liked and loved. And its scary to put yourself out there. The solution for both of these traps is to get crystal clear about why you became an entrepreneur in the first place. Define your visionwith as much vivid detail as possibleand keep it in front of you at all times. When you struggle, doubt or fear (and you will) your passion will guide you through it. Another challenge is being multi-passionate. Its challenging to choose what to do first or next when I see so many possibilities before them (not to mention liking them all). And making sure I dont try to do too many things at the same time. I continue to work on being as decisive and focused as possible. Having friends and mentors who know this about me keeps me on track. They call me out whenever they see me getting in my own way. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? Recently I made a shift in my primary business model (i.e. how I make money through my business) but I spent weeksmonths actuallyspinning in indecision over it. This was mostly because of trap #2 from above about the fear of being judged or rejected by my

Inside the Jungle Magazine existing community of women in business online. How did I overcome it? Okay, dont laugh. What finally got me unstuck is actually an iPad app called unstuck. I highly recommend it. The exercises I was led through revealed I was avoiding making a decision and subsequent exercises motivated me to making a confident decision on the spot. Thank goodness for small miracles! Hahaha! You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im being indecisive. You are being the best boss you ever had when I feel courageous and confident. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Self-awareness and self honesty are key. Get to know what makes you tick. Commit to figuring yourself out. Get clear about what really truly matters to you. Define what success

Feel Afraid and Do It Anyway means to you. Create an entrepreneurial compass that allows you to move forward with complete confidence. Surround yourself with people who believe in you you can borrow their belief when yours is waning. You can do this. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? Yes. All. The. Time. The key for me is recognizing the fear is not going to go away and so I feel afraid and do it anyway. Once you do youll also realize that the big old scary story you had built up in your mind was a bit ridiculousits never as scary as we predict it might be.

The Mind is Truly

Where the Jungle Is
by Jane Garee
my ears. I have learned EVERYTHING starts with mindset. When I believe I can, I will. When I dont want to worry, I wont. No external circumstances can derail me like my internal thoughts and beliefs. The mind is truly where the jungle is. If you can navigate your way through that, success is just a swinging vine ride away! Ive also learned the best entrepreneurs are always stretching themselves, financially and personally. So, at any moment, its possible Ill feel as if I dont have enough resources, time, money or talent. Im a typical entrepreneurI take risks, stay leveraged and always believe things will work themselves out. Living like that takes enormous courage and faith because to some extent, it means being out there on a wing and a prayer. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? My worst trait is working myself like a rented mule! Im very demanding of me and have a tendency to berate myself over everything. When a friend pointed out Id never treat an employee like that, I started to change my self-talk and allow myself time off. Now, one of my mantras is, Be gentle with yourself. Youre a valuable employee. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I cant stop saying terrible things to myself and work from 8 am until past midnight several days in a row. You are being the best boss you ever had when I take time off, am verbally appreciative of myself and What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Entrepreneurial freedom is that magical mix of having enough time to do what you want, with enough money to do it and loving how you earn your money because you always feel like you have a job that is fun. Its also being free to be who you truly are, and having an ongoing love affair with your work and the clients you are serving. I know Im feeling free when my days have a steady but diverse rhythm to them; when I cant wait to work on a project but have no compunction about hitting the pool or beach for a few hours on a weekday afternoon or taking a long lunch with a friend. And of course, having no anxiety that my bank account will support this! Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Ummm, this morning? Feeling spread thin is something I personally struggle with frequently. Usually its a result of burnout, not having (or liking) my plan or not having appropriately outsourced. To get focus, I step away from my office and do something completely non-work related. Or, I get my thoughts down on paper. Seeing my thoughts in writing helps me see whats really going on and what needs to be done about it. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Inside the Jungle Magazine make a point to look at what Ive accomplished over several days instead of what still needs to be done. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Go back and look at the bosses you had when you had a J-O-B and make a note of why you loved them. What did they do and did they do it for you, with you or to you? Emulate some of their traits. Also, realize that you are in business. Your boss at your J-O-B wouldnt have accepted weeks and weeks of two hour work days, especially in the beginning stages. Dont be seduced by thinking you can have it all, right away, in just a couple of work hours a week. It takes time and it takes work.

The Mind is Truly Where the Jungle Is fear when I get out of my head and into my life. What seems like A BIG DEAL at my desk, looks totally different when Im out living and having fun. It keeps things in perspective. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Realize you are on your own journey and stay on your path. If you try to be on someone elses path, youll be frustrated, envious or confused and none of that will serve you. Also, remember everyone has a back story so you dont know what things look like off camera. Thats why its important to set your sights on the road youve chosen and just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Your destiny is what you want and its the one that will make you happiestnot someone elses.

When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? Every day could be a day Im scared to put myself out there! "Its okay to shine and be the exceptional Sometimes I choose to overcome it and person that you are. In doing so, youll help sometimes I choose bring others into their own light." to stay stuckand theres valuable insight ~ Jane Garee in each of those decisions. Its easier for me to overcome

You Are Imperfect

by Jesse Stein
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Lets talk reality, most of us do not work for freewell not after the infancy stages of starting a business. Many of us become entrepreneurs because we have the dream of a successful business, and ultimately wealth and freedom after being in the corporate world. However, I believe there is so much more to entrepreneurial freedom than the bottom line. It is about living your dreams, living your passsion, living something you are excited to eat sleep and breathe each day. It really is about creating more of what you want professionally and less of what you dont want. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? I feel spread thin when launching a new product or package, or bringing on new team members. I have to schedule lunches, snacks, physical activity and even time to get caught up on paperwork. It is critical for me to have a structured and organized schedule to ensure I stay focused when juggling many balls in the air. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? The biggest challenge for me is stepping into the place of being the face of my company. I surround myself with strong employees and amazing clinicians and physicians. I find myself wanting to stay in the background so they can be the face people see. I often get acknowledgements about my accomplishments in business. I really had to start honouring and validating that Im great at what I do, Im paving a new way of healthcare, and I started a company I need to be proud of.

Perfectly

Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I frustrate myself when I place expectations on myself that clearly push me to my limits. Id never place these standards on my employees so I cannot accept these myself either. I am human just like my employees and need realistic, manageable goals. When I succeed I can set higher goals, but starting out at the highest level is detrimental to my own performance and ultimately the performance of my business. You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im harder on myself than any other person would be. Its when I put unrealistic expectations on myself even more than the worst boss in the corporate world. This would mean I schedule myself excessively, work 12+ hours per day, dont schedule time for my personal life and place unrealistic deadlines on projects. It comes down to not taking care of myself personally which then impacts my professional life. You are being the best boss you ever had when I create balance and value in all things going on around me. When I give myself space to have a balanced schedule, when I put myself first before my employees and clients and when I allow myself to take care of things needed for me to performall of this is better for my employees and clients because theyre getting the best version of me. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but she isnt sure how? Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to ask for helpbut to be truly successful and be the best boss

Be the best boss you ever had

16

Inside the Jungle Magazine you ever had, you need support from others. Its about knowing your limitations and having a strong support network to make you even better. And, its about allowing the space to have fears. We are not perfect. We are all perfectly imperfect. Youll have piece of mind and a peaceful heart to know you are doing absolutely everything you can to be the best boss for yourself. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? To be honest Ive never had any major fears that held me back in business. When I started my company, I felt I was young and driven and saw it was THE time to take that jump. Of course I was fearful of failure or making a name for myself, but the belief I have in my abilities and how I can make a difference far outweighs those fears.

You Are Perfectly Imperfect What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Without risk there is no reward. And, without risk there is no exploration, no discovery, no chance to make a name for yourself, no opportunity to make the difference you can make. The journey is to get more of what you want, to be your own boss and live your dreams and passion. Just making this vision a reality is enough to drive any entrpreneur to take risks. The vision of my life helps me overcome the hard days, the days where I wonder why, the days where I sit back and think this is too much risk and the days when I can be the best boss I have ever had and have the most rewarding career I could ever imagine or dream of.

"If you take control of your personal life the way you do your professional life you could be the most successful person you know. It is about balance and creating value in all things you do. Validate yourself and honour the space you have created around you." ~ Jesse B. Stein

No One is There for You More than YOU

What does entrepreneurial by Jessica freedom mean to you? Its the ability to create your own schedule and come and go as you please. When you no longer have a fulltime job and have your own business, that freedom becomes your reality. Youre now beholden to yourself, not someone else. It also comes with responsibility to set clear boundaries and guard your time with your life. But your time now belongs to YOU and that is a beautiful thing. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Every day! I always feel spread thin and pulled in a lot of directions. I try to chunk my time to get focus and accomplish specific things in those chunks of time. That works for me. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? My biggest struggle is delegation. I dont want to delegate tasks and dont trust anyone with my schedule or interfacing with my contacts. I have to do everything myself. It really slows me down! I hate the idea of something being done incorrectly and me having paid for someone to do it and still having to do it myself. That scared me. I am working on it VERY SLOWLY and its working out. I have ONE person I trust. And I use Fancy Hands for scheduling things, transcribing and formatting documents. I love that service. Also follow upIm great at marketing but horrible at sales. The follow up scares me - I never know what to say to No. So I often find myself avoiding the questions. But then I cant hear yes, either, right? Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? SUCH a good question. When Im stuck doing tasks that I really hate. Thats when I know Im not being a

Kupferman
good boss to myself. Or when Im taking money for jobs I dont really want to do, because Im desperate or not focusing on money-making tasks like follow up. That is frustrating knowing that I leave money on the table or take it for the wrong things.

You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im never the worst boss Ive ever had. Ive had horrible, mean, petty, sniping bosses who expected me to fork over extra money for child care so I could finish menial, deadline free tasks. Ive had bosses who would whisper about me to others right in front of my face. Once I had a boss who expected me to literally carry in my own desktop computer because they couldnt afford to buy me one. Compared to that, Im a flipping saint. You are being the best boss you ever had when After I interview someone for Lady Business Radio, she says to me, That was the best interview Ive ever had. Then I know I worked hard at finding what I love to do and what I am best at, and its paying off.

Inside the Jungle Magazine

No One is There for You More than You for you more than you. No one can fix your life but you. Do what needs to be done to treat yourself the way you deserve. Tell everyone else to stick a fork in their eye if they dont like it. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I still am afraid when I have something new to launch or show people. Im always afraid its not good enough. And sometimes its not. I overcome it by remembering I need to make money! I dont want a full time job.The only way I get to make a living doing what I do is to put myself out there. Sometimes I get so scared I start looking on Monster.com and let me tell you, that cures my fears big time. The thought of going to work for someone, even putting on a suit to INTERVIEW, is scarier than any launch I could do. Try it! It helps. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? My business rules are always changing. I used to say I would never turn off Facebook. Now I only hop in and out. I used to believe I could have lunch with friends a few times a week. Ive changed that to MAYBE twice a month. I dont allow myself those kinds of time indulgences anymore. Building a business and sustaining one means taking your job as CEO very, very seriously. And if I want my own empire, which I do, I need to act like a CEO and treat myself like one.

"The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it."
~ Roseanne Barr

What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? A good boss understands that happy employees are productive ones. When you give someone a task that they hate or that they are terrible at accomplishing, you are setting them up to fail. Similarly, give yourself the tasks you love during the best time of day for you to accomplish it. If your brain loves 11am, thats when you write. Thats when you create. The nuts and bolts of your business, scheduling marketing updates or responding to emails, less think-y stuff, that stuff is important but doesnt need your best thinkin hours. Prioritize based on your own body. As far as being unsure, you really just need to decide that youre going to take control of your business and make it what you want. In all aspects of life, we learn that no one sticks up for you but you. No one is there

The Jungle Can Be a Delightful, Surprising Adventure

by Jess Webb
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Being able to run my business how I want, when I want, and work with who I want. Its all about what truly supports ME and having the freedom to say no to what does not. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? As my business took off, I got to the point where I was actually OVERbooked. Talk about being pulled in multiple directions! I had all these beautiful clients to support AND still needed to work ON my business. Getting focused was a MUST! I tuned into WHY Im doing this. Why am I so excited to help these clients? What is my big mission and message? What am I here to offer the world? From there it was a LOT easier to see what to focus on, what was important to my mission and what could be dropped because it didnt matter in the grand scheme of things. There are still challenges no matter how success someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? One challenge is the overwhelm of having so many balls in the air as a business owner. My fear is I will drop them, let my clients down, run my business into the ground, or other similar worst case scenarios. I also feel challenged around feeling like a fraud, like somehow my success and my business, arent really real and Im just playing pretend. Another one has been putting myself out there and getting visible. I was always a shy, quiet girlstepping up and getting visible was scary for me! I did a lot of inner work to accept myself unconditionally (and STILL do work around this) so I could step out knowing how fully supported and loved I am, and it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks! I also made it really FUN for myself so it was more like a game than a challenge. I love dressing up, so did photoshoots, dressed up for networking events and conferences, and practiced being visible while feeling AW E S O M E whenever I went out around other people. This made it a frickin BLAST for me and visibility feels more natural than ever before. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I have a tendency to push myself, and to feel like I *should* be doing something, taking actionANY actionto keep moving forward. I beat myself up if I feel like I havent been productive, or havent gotten the things done I think I *should* do. I overcome this by reminding myself that it really doesnt matter what I do, what matters is who I am b eing and how I am showing up. For when I come from a place of joy, completely accepting and loving myself and the people Im here to serve, then from that place I will know what actions need to be taken and what things are the most important to focus on. Ive seen this sooo many times that I know it to be true, and it usually just takes that reminder to get me back on track being the best boss I can be to myself.

The Jungle Can Be a Delightful, Surprising Adventure trust your imagination and the ideas it gives you for action. And go easy on yourself, knowing everything is unfolding just as it is meant to. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? Of course! I remind myself of who I really am and what Im here formy big WHYthen take baby steps to move in that direction. I do a lot of work with my beliefs, see the ones holding me back and causing fear, and then to turn them into the TRUTH of whats really possible so I can move beyond the fear. A simple way is to just stop and ask myself when a fear comes up: Can I know 1000% this is REALLY true? What if I didnt have that thought, how would I live and show up, then? This helps me to shift my thinking and realize this thing Im afraid of isnt even really true. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? The jungle can be a delightful, surprising adventure if you see it from that perspective. We are here to have fun, live in joy, feel good, and bring juicy goodness to the planet. So make it funwhatever fun means for you. Look for ways to bring more fun and pleasure into every day so youre nourishing yourself from the inside out. Then those scary noises and monsters in the jungle wont seem nearly as frightening or challenging after all!

You are being the worst boss you ever had when I dont cut myself some slack and beat myself up for not doing things just right. You are being the best boss you ever had when I relax into who I really am and let myself BE the joyful, abundant person Im here to be so everything else flows out of that. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? TRUST yourself. You knowdeep insidewhat is true for you and what you really need. Take time to get quiet and tune in to your own inner knowing, to ground yourself in who you REALLY are. Then

The Jungle Gets Created by You

by Jill Lublin
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Entrepreneurial freedom is about doing what you love and making money at it. Its about serving people with your passion and using your gifts in the world. Its when youre excited about what you do every day and you come with enthusiasm and passion to your clients and your work. That, to me, is entrepreneurial freedom. Plus the ability to take a nap if I need to, pet my cats, take a break as neededthat supports freedom, too. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Well, that happens in a typical week. As an entrepreneur, you often will be stretched thin because youre running your business, youre serving your clients, if you have staff you might be managing staff and I think part of being an entrepreneur is that we are many things to many people. And so, what I do is to get centered as much as possible. I make sure to take care of myself with self-nurturing activities like being in nature, also, taking baths, getting massages. For me, that is the way I do it. But I think, if you are in business, youve got to be ready for stress and know how to deal with stress in the best possible wayand to have a great team, which Im lucky to have. There are still challenges no matter how success someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? The biggest issue is managing cash flow and making sure my employees are paid, Im paid, and my business continues to grow and evolve with programs changing to meet the market today. Those are a lot of balls to balance in the air. I speak at conferences that involve follow-up. I serve my clients on publicity courses. I consult. I have my products such as my book and home study system. I try to keep good time on all of that by doing the best I can and making sure I have outside resources to support the projects Im working on. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I think the biggest issue is time management. For me, I segment my day as much as possible. In the morning I take care of sales and marketing calls. I try to schedule time where I can actually work on my business which is sometimes the hardest thing to do. I schedule thinking time to think about my business. And then, in the afternoon, I usually serve consulting clients. Then, there are times when Im attending seminars because I believe in constantly investing in myself and education. At seminars, Im networking for clients and creating joint venture relationships. Probably the biggest frustration is keeping up with it allits a time management issue and of course making sure cash flow supports the business. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I get frustrated with employees and when the business isnt coming as fast as I want it to be.

Inside the Jungle Magazine You are being the best boss you ever had when Im patient with employees and myself and the flow of natural business coming in, and Im making sure its all as balanced as possible. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Make sure you surround yourself with good people and they are taking care of you and have your back. That also means you have to have their back when they make mistakes. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? When my book Guerrilla Publicity came out, I remember seeing my face on a big poster at a Barnes & Noble book signing and that was something! All of

The Jungle Gets Created by You a sudden it was me out there at the frontthe person whom people look to for inspiration, motivation, and great publicity and strategy advice. I had to step into my own promotion and publicity advice and be willing to put myself out there. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? The jungle is one that gets created by you and I dont see it as a jungle. I see it as a daily process to make sure Im clear and focused, and have great coaches who surround me and support me and my business goals and that I have great team members who support me and my business goals. I dont see or perceive my life as a jungle, but as a great adventure where I am unfolding, my clients are unfolding, and Im helping all of those whom I serve be the best they can beand that Im also the best I can be every day.

What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Making abundant money that I attract through doing the work only I was born to do, the work that emerges from my essence, the work that flows from the why that makes me cry. The more I am myself while doing this work, the more money I make. Having plenty of time built into my schedule for self care, personal growth and transformation, nourishing retreats and fabulous vacations! Being able to spend time with my son on days off and being with him in case of illness and injury. I have freedom when all these elements are present. Whoo hoo! Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? When I was running the Succulent, Savvy, Soul-Full Business Revolution, the 33 Speaker summit I ran in early 2013, I was overstretched and tapped out beyond anything I had ever experienced before. During the second week of this eight-week event, my beloved little boy got a fairly serious concussion. I was very worried about him and he had to stay home with me for a few weeks while I ran the biggest event of my life. During the week after the concussion occurred, I had to give four talks, all of them with different angles on topics. And, I was hormonal! I have never in my life cried in overwhelm. I broke down in tears and just let it out. Release is so great for the body. Then, I just kept reminding myself to breathe deeply. This carried me through until I could spend more concentrated time nourishing myself.

There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? The biggest challenge in my entrepreneurial journey has been that my husband wasnt supportive of it, and he still doesnt quite get it. I overcame it by having faith in myself, learning to give myself the support I needed and wanted, and by making good money quickly so that he could see that, even if he didnt understand what I was doing, that I could contribute to our family wealth. Im scared when I uplevel in a big way, like when I increase my rates or share myself even more deeply and authentically. Im not fully comfortable on video yet. Im also still scared to fully own and step into my power. I have a really big, amazing energy and have often been told Im too muchbut Im not going to allow that to stop me any longer from being visible. All the weight I have gained since starting this business can also interfere with my desire to be visible. Im focusing deeply on my health now and releasing these extra pounds. I dont need to hide behind them anymore. Im ready to more fully step into my power. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? One time was early 2013. I had just finished my big event and went immediately into creating a private mentoring launch, a course launch and another 16 speaker series all within four months. I overcame it by recognizing I was in my shadow masculine and simply needed to slow down. I took off most of July to September to slow down, do deep inner work and re-align. What is Scary isWhat Ive Done a Million Times Before

by Lisa Cherney
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? My definition of entrepreneurial freedom is the ability to choose what I do, who I do it with and when I do it. I know that I do not have the freedom that I want when I am not feeling good about whats on my schedule for a day. In fact, there have been times when the very feeling of dread about what is on my schedule is the way Ive made major decisions about ending certain projects, letting go of certain clients, or hiring new folks to take on things that I no longer want to do. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? A time that I felt spread thin and pulled in multiple directions was about three months before I was to host my first live three-day event called Be Juicy! 6-Figures on Your Terms in 2012. It was a new event and it felt like giving birth to twins and getting married all rolled up together. I find that I feel the most spread thin when I am in the midst of an up level in my business. And this usually indicates its time to get help in a new way. So in order to get focus, I take some time off. Which is hard because it usually feels like the very opposite of what I need to do. But it always brings clarity. And I always know what I need to do next. This could mean taking time away to do my transcendental meditation for 20 minutes or it could be taking the whole day or even a weekend away. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? It all still feels somewhat scary even after 14 years in business and after crossing the seven-figure mark. What I struggle with or what feels scary is what Ive done a million times before. I somehow convince myself this time is differentthis is a new talk, a new audience or new program. It causes me to feel scared instead of acknowledging my experience. My biggest challenge is continuing to own my greatness. There is always a new level to ownwe never stop evolving and always need to look at who we are now, what it is we are bringing into the world now, and who we are suppose to serve now. My best advice is to do things that have you get full of yourself, even if you're not being compensated for it. If it reminds you of who you are do it! Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? When my daughter started preschool, I was ready to get back to my business in a bigger way. My boss (me) wanted me to do what I was doing before. I felt like a different person and wanted to take some time off to figure it outbut my boss feared it would negatively impact my income. Im a big fan of Byron Katies work and when I examined my thoughts, I realized I was in more danger by not taking the time off to figure it out.

What is Scary is What Ive Done a Million Times Before make all the difference in the world. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I have been scared many times to leap forward. You know the famous quote leap and the net will appear? After making many leapsmost of them having to do with making big investments in myself and my missionI came up with a new version of that quote: leap and the cliff disappears! What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? My closing advice is to be honest about whats holding you back, make a conscious decision on either yes, Im going to get help or no, Im going it alone, and notice how much time goes by when you go it alone. I call myself a 10-year overnight success because it took me that long to get the help I needed to grow my business. And when I started saying, Yes, Im going to get help, I went from $70k a year to $1 million in just four years.

You are being the worst boss you ever had when I need to take a break and dont. If Im frustrated about something, I think Ill feel better by doing 10 more things. I actually need to go for a walk, put on loud music and dance my butt off, or hug my daughter. But my boss (me) is convinced I need to gut it through. This creates the cycle of even more frustration and me creating, in my mind, more problems. You are being the best boss you ever had when I truly take Monday and Friday off and focus on selfcare, organizing and clearing my decks so I can be present with my family on the weekend and be my best with clients on my work days. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? It takes courage and no one will stand up for you more than you. Be mindful about how long you go with struggling or making promises to fix things yourself. Making an investment in yourself is the most sure thing you can ever do. In our Cash Through Clarity Training & Coaching program, we show our students how to claim their ideal clients in their marketing. They say its like we are giving them permission to create the business they always wanted. Sometimes you do need to invest in experts who may tell you something you already know but arent doing. My Head was Screaming, This is So Irresponsible!

by Lisa Fabrega
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? First, there is the element of personal freedomthat you feel aligned with what you are doing in your business. Does your business reflect your innermost desires? Is the message of your business aligned with what you really want to be contributing in the world? To me, entrepreneurial freedom is when your truth and your message are aligned with what you are putting out there in the world in terms of your business model. Many entrepreneurs in the beginning go with what they think will make the most money instead of checking with themselves to see what they most want to birth into the world. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? There was a time in my business about 2.5 years ago where I almost threw in the towel and gave up on the whole thing. I was working long hours, and feeling I had to hustle for every little win, every new client and every new sale. And, self-care was zero. I ended up (once again) getting really sick and was forced to lie in bed for a week. Then, I tried an experiment. I cut my work hours in half and whenever Id get stressed or find myself in uber-masculine (working too hard, long hours, no selfcare or pleasure) Id do the thing that felt most scary and counterintuitive. Id drop EVERYTHING and take a long hot bath or go to the salon for a mani-pedi or a massage. Everything in my head was screaming This is so irresponsible! Everything will fall apart! How can you be doing this!? Yet that month I tripled my income. I realize now the more in pleasure I am, the more expanded I am. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Oh, I love this question! I still struggle with not overworking and maintaining the balance required for me to be in my feminine. I tend to get passionate about things and then Im still at the computer at 9 pm and wonder why Im not feeling well. Constantly Im re-calibrating throughout the day, checking in with myself and seeing if I need a break. Another challenge is staying steadfast in speaking my truth. Ive managed to do it, but whenever youre a bright light speaking your truth, youll trigger people and sometimes theyll say not-so-nice things. For every negative, triggered comment I get, I get 100 messages saying thank you, youve inspired me to step into my purpose and my power and 'come out', so to speak. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I went through a period when I wanted to be free and not have a schedule. I ended up super-stressed and overwhelmed all the time. I finally put in time blocks into my calendar for marketing, advertising, selling, administration, writing, self-care, meal breaks, workout time and pleasure breaks. At first I was afraid to do it, thinking it would be limiting. But now its actually what gives the greatest freedom. Waking up in the morning and knowing exactly what Im doing eliminates 95 per cent of overwhelm.

My Head was Screaming, This is So Irresponsible! paid $100 per hour, spending two hours doing laundry is like wasting $200. You can pay someone to do your laundry for much less. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I make sure to keep focusing on the people I am serving. When I take the focus off of me and I realize I am here to help the woman entrepreneur who is here to do great thingsand that me leaping forward serves her in her own leap forwardthen I know I HAVE to take that leap forward. I think you have to be really committed to your mission and really committed to your own growth. I think thats one of the biggest qualities of a successful entrepreneur and what separates those who succeed from those who dont. Take the focus from you to who you serve and how you can serve.

You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im looking at other people and comparing myself to them, instead of focusing on my mission and what I have to offer the world from my heart. Im not taking time to take care of myself and am working too long. Im not fueling myself nutritionally while working on launches. Im not putting in the time to hire the right people for the job. Im not trusting in my instincts when making business decisions. You are being the best boss you ever had when I speak my truth. I keep up my workout schedule, nutrition plan and delegate all low leverage tasks to other people who will do them much better. I trust and honour my pace and the wisdom of my body when it tells me to go slower. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? It will always feel scarythat feeling will NEVER go away. But you can still keep moving even when you feel scared. Just take one tiny step. For example, what can you hire out? You might think you cant afford it, but think of what you get paid per hourif you get

The Mirror Never Lies

by Nadine Nicholson
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? I have freedom when Im in control of my time when Im intentional about how I work, when I work, who I work with, and how I share my talents and skills with others. I use a little trick I call the mirror test. When I can look in the mirror and truthfully tell myself my actions are aligned with my core values and what matters most to me, thats freedom to me. The mirror never lies. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? This happens a lot, no matter how much planning or organizing I do. Even though I have a team, it seems there is never a shortage of things to do. A simple trick works for me. I rate the days tasks as A, B or C in importance with A being most important. Then, I rate the As from 1 to 3, the Bs from 1 to 3 and so on. This helps me break down a big list into whats most critical and I do whats most important first. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? I faced a values crisis in my business just before my son started kindergarten. I had a talented seven-figure business mentor and my business was growing by leaps and bounds with her support. However, each day the calendar flipped over meant my son was getting closer to full-time in grade one and that was making me anxious. It felt like my time with him was shrinking and I couldnt see how to take my business to the next level and honour my time with him too. I got help from my spiritual advisors, got really honest about my values and then mapped out my entire year to align my schedule with my values. Two examples are my family is spending March together in Hawaii and Im only working one day a week next summer before my son starts grade one. As a result of my journey to entrepreneurial freedom, I created MeJanes Freedom by Focus Blueprint Program to help high-achieving women in business get clear about their next level of success and grow their business on their terms, without compromising their values. My clients tell me their experience is pricelessthat fulfills me beyond belief. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? Just one time? (Oh yeah, I created these questions, LOL.) In the early days I did a lot of corporate consulting because it was easy work and financially rewarding. I worked three days a week and spent two days with my son. I remember a time a big client scheduled a meeting on my free day. I felt like I had to go, got all dressed up to head downtown, schlepped off my son on someone and went to that meeting. I felt horrible about not sticking to my boundaries. That was the last time I let someone book my calendar. I rarely do corporate consulting now because I have much more freedom (and fun) working virtually with women business owners. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I overwork and overbook myself. I dont plan my week. I sit in my office all day and dont get outside for a walk or, at the least, bust some quick dance moves in

Inside the Jungle Magazine my office. I try to be with my business and my family at the same time. I dont meditate. I go to bed late and pay for it the next morning, especially since my son is a built-in 6 am alarm clock. You are being the best boss you ever had when I honour why I left the corporate world and started my business in the first placefor control over my time (a.k.a. freedom) and more time with my young son. I decide how I work, when I work and with whom I work. I have fun and LAUGH throughout the day. I treat myself with respect and compassion. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Ask yourself: WHY do you want to be your own best boss? Whats in it for you? Whats your WHY? Whats the cost of NOT being your own best boss? Then, make a conscious decision to BELIEVE in your own why and fly forward from there. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I still remember the first time I ran my high-level signature group program. I tried talking myself into doing it four months after my self-declared start date

The Mirror Never Lies because it would be easier. The truth was I was just scared and actually had everything I needed to run it. I ended up feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Now, I teach it to eight women entrepreneurs four times a year. It changes their lives and I absolutely love it. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? My company MeJane is a twist on Me Tarzan, You Jane, where Jane takes a stand for whats most primal and important to her. She gains freedom as she sheds layers no longer her and gets more inner courage to be herself, do what matters to her and live her life intentionally. Just in case you were wondering, YOU are Jane. You are the one who will grow your business on your terms and unlock your entrepreneurial freedom. You are the one wholl be the best boss you ever had.

If you can see it, you can have it.

Whats in Your Heart and Soul?

by Natasha Allrich
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? I like a simple, sustainable business model, one that supports my clients in achieving their aspired goals, and equally gives me a lot of space for time with family, friends and travel. Its having full days that are rewarding, monetized, produces results for my clients, and gives me the time and space to enjoy it all. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? One time I was recovering from a health challenge while hiring a new team member, juggling multiple project deadlines and delivering client service, all while needing to prep my home (husband and daughter) for my extended travel involving various time zones. Typically, I could breeze through this, but this time it was a challenge to maneuver. I used prayer, visualization and affirmation to see what I needed and how to proceed. It calmed my spirits, melted the stress, and gave me clarity on my next stepsin a way that gracefully supported my health and goals. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Delegation is an area of constant growth for me. Ive had several successful businesses prior to this one, and have coached and mentored thousands of entrepreneurs and professionals. Being an expert and masterful in a particular skill does not mean there is no room to grow and develop in other areas. Another challenge was taking heed to my inner guidance when it was time to rebrand my business. It became a spiritual calling and personal mission to

teach business owners how to sell their services and products in a way that felt good, both to their prospects and themselves. This big challenge turned out to be an even bigger reward that has paid off in multiple ways with both money and meaning. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? A few years back, after breaking through the multiple six-figure mark, I was really hard on myself feeling like I could and should do better. During that time, I wasnt enjoying my business or how I was being in my business. I took a personal retreat and was able to listen again to my own inner voice and redefine what success and satisfaction means to me. That gave me the priceless gift of wisdom I uncompromisingly use and now pass onto my clients.

Be the best boss you ever had

Inside the Jungle Magazine You are being the worst boss you ever had when I dont ask for help and work through the resistance to receive it. You are being the best boss you ever had when I have self-care activities regularly on my calendar, and when I say no to offers and opportunities that really are not a fit. Im really great at this. J What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Go back to a time you had those same feelings and overcame it. What did you and not do to get back to a place of clarity and confidence? There you will gather evidence of whats possible now. Use this to refuel and gracefully get back into your power. After taking a dance break, a nice walk, or a long, deep breathask yourself: What is it for? Why do I want this role as a business owner? What impact do I know I make that makes a difference for others? In what ways, does this work matter? Make sure your answers reflect whats truly in your heart and soul. There you will find your way past the fear and into flow again. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? Absolutely! When this happens, I always go back to my value system. Who does Spirit/God say I am? In

Whats in Your Heart and Soul? my essence, no matter what is going on, or what flaw I may be focused on, in Spirit, I am whole, perfect and complete not lacking a thing always. Then, I use the power of affirmation, crying, laughing, exercise/ moving my body, and speaking to others whose vision and similar values help in creating a new moment. I have found we always only need to get to the next new moment to take the next step in leaping forward. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? I believe being a conscious-based business owner is a calling to bring our and gifts to the business platform so those who desire what we have can get their needs met. It's important whatever skills you need to cultivate, you get support from someone whose work you respect and resonate with, who has a track record for helping others achieve those results, and is willing to walk at your side without judgment or a personal agenda as you learn from them.

The path emerges as you walk it, so simply walk it.

What Kind of Boss Wouldn t Pay Herself?

by Rebecca Liston
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? For me, entrepreneurial freedom is all about time my own time, specifically! I love that I can schedule my days and weeks to suit my lifestyle. Need more holidays? I just schedule them. Want to take a day off to go to the spa? No need to get permission from the boss! Prefer seeing clients in the morning and doing paperwork in the afternoons? I just make it so! My time is my own and time, to me, is one of the most valuable commodities! I know that I have freedom by gauging how I feel. When I have freedom, I feel relaxed and calm within myself. When I dont have freedom, I feel tense and jittery. I think more clearly and make better decisions when I have freedom. When I dont have freedom, I am confused and uncertain. For me, freedom is all about that fabulous, wonderful feeling of calm coupled with clarity and conviction. I love it! Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Well, I am a single mama of two young girls, I run a busy natural health care centre, mentor and provide health care to women business owners, belong to several womens groups, and have a new man in my life. The potential for me to feel spread thin is pretty huge! To maintain focus, I make sure my schedule is tight and efficient. I schedule holidays and self-care before anything else. I know if Im not happy and healthy, my business simply wont thrive, so I do everything possible to maintain health and well-being first and foremost. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? I still struggle with attending large networking events and find it difficult to be in large crowds. The noise and energy can be overwhelming and I find it hard to focus on a conversation. Ive learned the best networking for me is done one-on-one. It allows me to actually get to know someone much better as I can focus completely on our conversation. Another challenge is my mindset. The word mindset is nearly clich but I cant think of a better word for it. I have dealt with some big demonsyou may know some of them yourself. The Youre Not Good Enough demon, the Youre Not Worth It demon, and their friend the Who Do You Think You Are, Missy? demon. I got help from a homeopath and counsellor to help me heal my wounds so I could fire my demons and get on with creating the decadent lifeand businessof my dreams. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I remember a few years back I was paying everyone else before paying myself. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I grumble for leaving work at 3 pm even though I know its my priority to pick up my children from school. You are being the best boss you ever had when I take my team to the spa for the day. I love creating a decadent lifestyle for myself and my team. We deserve nothing less. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Get help. Find a mentor or a coach who can guide you along this path. I believe it isnt healthy to go it alonewe need unbiased support and unwavering guidance and accountability to really be the best boss

What Kind of Boss Wouldnt Pay Herself? we can be. I also believe whole-heartedly in accessing health care for our bodies and minds. Our own minds often stand between where we are now and where we want to go. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I have always believed in having support in my business journey. When I am scared about leaping ahead in my business, I turn to my support peoplemy mentor, health care team, intuitive consultant and assistant. These are people I truly trust, have my best interests at heart, and whose support is unparalleled. Without them, I would not be where I am today. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Make no mistakebuilding a business is a journey of the soul. Its not just about money, or clients or sales. Your business is an extension of YOU. And building that business will take you places in your mind and in your heart that you cannot even imagine. It is, like I said, a journey of the soul, not for the faint of heart, but so fucking worth it!

Pricing My Wares Still Drives Me Bonkers

by Shannon Cherry
What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? To me, entrepreneurial freedom isnt about a monetary figure or a specific lifestyle, i.e. going to the spa, travelling the world or a four-hour work week. Its having a lifestyle you choose. Do you have it? Are you content? Sure, you may want to strive for more, but all-in-all how do you feel most of the time in your life? Are you looking at your iPhone every second just in case, or can you enjoy time away from your business without stress? Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Oh, this happens occassionally, to me and everyone. What works for me is to do what I call a brain dump with a friend or colleague. Essentially, I have my friend make a list of everything that comes to mind I need to do. Then I take that list and prioritize the three things I MUST get down today. Anything else is just gravy! Usually once I get the first three things done, I get back into my flow. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Pricing my wares still drives me bonkers. I have a tough time justifying raising my prices and I dont espouse to the take the figure in your head and double it mantra some coaches say to do. So I struggle with this all the time. I want to get paid my worth and know I give a lot of value, yet I dont want to lose great clients due to overvaluing. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? I had a horrible boss when I had a job. And I often try to do the opposite he did, because he was so awful. Ive let staff take advantage of me and my kindness and

Then there is no question about whats expected. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I treat myself worse than the people who work for me. You are being the best boss you ever had when I allow myself to go off on tangents and discover something really cool for my business. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? For me, having a plan and rules to follow has helped keep me focused and enjoy the ride so much more. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? Of course. And I still get scared at major turning points. For example, a few years ago I let go of my brand that wasnt serving me nor highlighting my gifts. It just sometimes takes a leap of faith to know the path is the right one.

What has been the biggest challenge on your journey of entrepreneurship and how did you overcome it? Comparing myself to so-called successful entrepreneurs was a big challenge. Its easy to fall into that trap (I sure did!), since they offer blueprints to help you reach their success level. When I embraced my individuality and own path, success finally came. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? Remember, being an entrepreneur does not mean you are singing an aria by yourself. You need an orchestra backing you and an audience to sing to. (Huh, I just made that up on the fly its pretty truthful though!)

consistently stressed out. For me, focus came when I started saying no to things that werent a right fit. I also started saying no to people who would pay me BUT I had no desire to work with. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? I struggle with balance. I constantly go, go, go all the time. Always launching. Always working on something. Always. Always. Always. I have no problem putting myself out there and doing the hard work, sometimes I am afraid that launching and creating ALL the time will be ALL my business is about and I wont have time to do everything else. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were being to you. How did you overcome it? I can be really emotional and super reactive, especially when it comes to getting feedback, implementing changes and accepting when things go wrong. I once had a request for a refund (really early on my business) that made me really upset and I flew off the handle and was unprofessional about it. Its easy for me to get overly emotionally invested in what I do (and I am sure I am not the only one) but ultimately my business and I are two separate things and once I realized that, What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? Freedom is about actually doing EXACTLY what you want to be doing and not what you CAN do or SHOULD do because its sellable. I find so many of my students are in business and feel STUCK doing the things they do because that is what people ASK them for. Your business should be centered on what lights you up and not just what you CAN do. There is obviously a period when doing what you can do is appropriate (and necessary). In order to be TRULY free, you gotta make sure you dont just LIKE what you do but love it. So the goal should always be to get to the place where you are NO longer a slave to the should. And that is when the money starts coming in. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Early on in my business I was a HUGE business slut, I did anything for everyone without any thought/ consideration about what I actually wanted to do. As a result, I was a copywriter, a writing coach, a designer... I was everything to everyone and I used to feel

Listen to Your Gut Stuff get anywhere in business, you have to start trusting yourself to make these decisions.

things get SO much better. Its also about bringing people into your business who can take care of the things you dont want to handle all the time. You are being the worst boss you ever had when I dont keep promises I make to myself. You are being the best boss you ever had when I do EXACTLY what I say Ill do. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Being your best boss is all about listening to your gut stuff and letting your intuition lead the way. Being a business owner is all about making decisions and once you get to the place where you can start making your own decisions WITHOUT asking everyone what they think, you are being a great boss and a bad ass leader too. The first step is to STOP asking everyone what they think of everything you do. If you ever want to

When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? I think we are always afraid. ALWAYS. And there isnt really a way to overcome fear, because it always comes back. I have launched a bunch of times and I STILL get afraid that I can sell my stuff out. Fear just means we GIVE a shit what happens to us. When someone says they are not afraid of anything, they are just saying that they honest to goodness dont care what happens to them. Its all about feeling the fear and being like: Ok, I am REALLY afraid right now, but I am gonna do it anyway. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? I would say to anyone who wants to do this, that it is okay that your journey isnt an easy one. It isnt supposed to be. This mothertrucka is HARD and if you really, really, want this...know that it WILL happen if its the right path for you. Dont compare yourself to anyone else. Just put that ass in the chair and WORK. I promise that is the best (and quickest way) to get what you really want.

What Does Your Fear Want You by Sherold Barr to Know?

What does entrepreneurial freedom mean to you? I call myself a freedom fighter, master coach and entrepreneur mentor to women who are struggling in their business. I help them find their ideal clients and make money. Why I do this is because I found emotional and financial freedom being an entrepreneur. In 1998, I started freelancing and within four years had created a corporation that was making multi-six figures. I could wear whatever I was comfortable in to my office because I worked virtually to represent Microsofts Healthcare Vertical Business. My dogs were my official coworkers along with five staff people. I was at home when my son came home from middle school and then on through high school. When you can call your own shots, make more money than you ever thought was possible, and create the life you want to live (I am location independent) that is true freedom. Describe a time you felt pulled in a million directionshow did you focus? Usually its when Im in the middle of a launch for my program Smart Women Make Money. I know I must schedule exercise in my calendar to help me with the stress of deadlines. Ive also gone back to writing morning pages to quiet down the Monkey Mind chatter. There are still challenges no matter how successful someone iswhat are some of your biggest challenges? Being an entrepreneur is a journey, not a destination. Each time I move into a new area of growth, I have new challenges to move through. Its critical to have a positive mindset and know it takes perseverance, determination and self-beliefand continue taking small action steps toward my business vision. Resilience comes from believing you can do it and calling upon other times in your life when you did what felt impossible. I encourage my clients to study fear and ask what it wants them to know. The greater your fear, the more likely it is your soul calling you to your destiny. Use fear as your rocket fuel. Describe a time when you were frustrated at the boss you were beingto you. How did you overcome it? Last year I allowed my inner critic Helga to rule me. She has a whip and wears all black. If there was a lot of work, she cracked the whip and I did not go exercise regularly and ended up gaining five pounds. Now I work out five days a week and make sure its on my calendar. Im super aware of my inner critic and make sure Im in charge of my mindnot Helga. You are being the worst boss you ever had when Im being a tyrant boss and not kind to myself, I work on the weekends and dont take time off, or Im not exercising. My challenge is launch time because of the compressed timeframe with many deadlines. I have to be sure exercise is scheduled in my calendar. You are being the best boss you ever had when I check in with my thoughts when I am stressed out and understand I am in charge. I ask myself if I really need to do everything I think I need to do right now.

Inside the Jungle Magazine This immediately calms me down because I put more pressure on me to perform than anyone else. What would you say to someone who wants to be her own best boss but isnt sure how? Ive found freedom in self-realization of knowing myself and being able to see when Im working from my strengths. This has been the most important thing Ive done. When you know yourself, youll know when you are not operating in your zone. Look for assistance from VAs or others who can you help shore up areas where you are not in your strengths. I take small steps of action to keep moving so fear doesnt keep me stuck. Fear + action = courage. Show up and be willing to be seen for who you are. Also, there is a misperception you must focus on marketing first and build a web site and use social media. Thats actually backwards. The fast path to cash is to create a signature program, have a pitch about what you do, learn to sell, and get out there speaking and networking. When were you scared to leap forward in your business? How did you overcome it? When I started my own business, I realized how scary it was to sell my services. I had to learn to show up and be willing to make mistakes because that is how Id learn. Im writing a book and next year I will give it away for free for a period of time. This is another

What Does Your Fear Want You to Know? quantum leap because Ive written about vulnerable times in my life and how I overcame them. Ive noticed my inner critic has reared its head the closer I am to finishing. Im on my last chapter and for five months I was derailed with thoughts of who am I to write a book and this isnt good enough. The only way out is for me to move through it and learn. I am determined to not let my inner critic win. What else would you would like to add from inside your jungle? I love being my own boss and deciding my goals each year. I have more freedom in my life than ever and I love it. We live in Baja, Mexico every winter for a month and I work from there in the mornings and take off the afternoons. We travel internationally each year and I can arrange my schedule so that we can leave and come back, and I dont miss a beat. Id never work for someone else again.

From Global Issue to Global Opportunity: Questions Every Woman Entrepreneur Must Answer Before Trying to Grow
by Nadine Nicholson
impacting the global economyand this survey covers only 67 of the 188 countries recognized by the World Bank. Heres another statistic to show the sheer enormity of global entrepreneurial growth for women. According to Lexis-Nexis Global, there was a 500 per cent increase in global press mentions of female entrepreneurs between 2009 and 2012. Yes, you read that right. A 500 per cent increase in four years.

Theres a concerning trend happening on a global scale. And, its time to do something about it. The Harvard Business Review Online recently reported the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) found a third of global businesses are owned by women. Over 126 million women are operating new businesses (under 3.5 years old) and 98 million women are operating established businesses (over 3.5 years old). That means 224 million women business owners are

Inside the Jungle Magazine

From Global Issue to Global Opportunity years I was closely involved in multimillion-dollar change projects and learned what it actually takes for change to stick. The same thing goes for you. When you want to grow your business or really own your gifts and reach for the next level of success, youre embarking on a CHANGE. For your change to stick, you must first know WHY youre making a change in the first place. You need to believe inand be bought intoyour own need for change. Its about firmly, clearly and unapologetically being able to answer some fundamental questions like:

So, you might be wondering If women are such a driving force for entrepreneurial growth around the globe, then Nadine, what exactly is the issue you are so concerned about? Sure, its true. High-achieving, success-driven women entrepreneurs around the world ARE ready for growth. Theyre asking, Where do I go from here? and want a clear vision and road map for their NEXT level of success. However, theres a BUT. Many do not know WHY they want to grow. Let me explain. We need to first talk about change management. I spent nearly 20 years in the corporate world before leaping to my own business to bring more freedom into my life. While Im certifiably unemployable and have no intention of going back to the corporate world, for many

1. Whats driving your growth? 2. Why is NOW the time to grow? 3. Whats the cost of NOT growing? Without knowingor actually wantingyour WHY for growth, then I believe embarking on growth is a relatively futile effort. You might be wondering why. By nature of being human, every business owner is faced with two competing forces. On one hand, youre wired to learn, grow and evolve, especially when youre a mission-driven entrepreneur wanting to make a difference. As Oprah says, The real point of being alive is to evolve into the whole person you were intended to be. On other hand, when you try to grow, the competing force of homeostasis kicks inthe human bodys primal need to stay safe and stable. In other words, just as you dip your foot in the water to stretch yourself and grow, the competing force says, What in the heck do you think youre doing? I like you JUST the way you are. In other words, just when you want to grow, you also want to stay the same. So, is there an answer? Yes. And the answer is simplebut not all simple things are easy. Youve got to know WHY you want to change. And, even more importantly, youve got to WANT YOUR WHY. Youve got to believe in your why. Or, dont even start. I firmly believe millions of women around the world want to grow their businesses to get more freedom and achieve their next level of success. Theyre ambitious, driven and motivated to impact positive change in the world. BUT, many are trying to grow without knowingor believing intheir WHY. Thats the fatal flaw. And, my mission is to do something about it. Four times every year, I open an exclusive opportunity for eight women entrepreneurs ready for growthbut who want to do it on their terms, while being true to their values. Does that sound like you? You might be wondering where we start. (Of course, we start with your WHY.) Then, I guide you step-by-step through the MeJane Freedom Model to layout a clear vision and road map so you can have your next level of success and bring more freedom into your business. Heres what I believe sets me apart from other business coaches and mentors out there.

Having managed multimillion dollar, complicated business issues for some of the most successful corporations in the world, I know how to cut through all the clutter and complexityand get right to the core of whats most important. I can see what you cannot see. And, as one of my own mentors told me, I see from the heart. My unique ability is being able to balance the human hat by bringing out the best in you, the business owner, with the business hat by bringing out the best in your business.
