Erin Dietel-Mclaughlin Multimedia Writing and Rhetoric 12 December 2013 TED Talk Reflection In contrast to other projects, the TED talk required one to speak and express our knowledge on a certain topic in front of others. It was difficult to start the project as I was unsure of how TED Talks really worked because, coming from a different country, I had never head of this type of presentation before. It was, however, very enjoyable because I was able to express a topic that I found important to an audience. During the development of my project, there were moments where I was unsure if expressing certain types of information would be either too overwhelming or too boring for my audience. As a result, I decided to present my information in a way that summarized the key points and expressed the importance of my presentation. We learned that persuading an audience requires one to address a situation and apply rhetorical strategies into the presentation. . I have always thought that when presenting, there needs to be a certain degree of professionalism. As a result, it was fundamental to provide strong evidence that clearly backed up my response to a situation. This is why I decided to use tools such as charts and graphs in order to visually persuade the viewer and establish my ethos. Establishing a degree of credibility was not the only requirement as I found it challenging to present in front of an audience. Throughout past experiences, I was used to presenting in front of a crowd that was different both socially and culturally. As a result, it was necessary to adapt and transmit my ideas to a different type of audience. It was important to practice various times

Rolon 2 before the actual presentation in order to gain a certain degree of self-confidence. If one demonstrates confidence to an audience, the audience is more likely to be persuaded by the statements made. I remember presenting various times in front of my roommate, my sister and even her friends. I think that this prepared me for my presentation and was able to surpass the challenge. During the presentation, I feel as though I was able to express my evidence correctly and effectively. At one point, however, the slides froze and I had a brief moment of panic. Thought began to rush through my head and I realized I had to do something about the problem. I went for the keyboard and tried changing the slide through there and thankfully the computer responded and I was able to continue with my presentation. This final project was challenging but at the same time greatly enjoyable! Thank you for a great semester!
