This workshop introduces the concept of creating a split, or cut, in a ply to reduce the shearing that it might undergo while being draped on a mould. First, the geometry is created and meshed by running a session file.
Lamina/plies are created in MSC Laminate Modeler for two material property sets. The materials are of type scissor or slide. Because the surfaces are highly curved a split is introduced in one of the plies. This shows how to do this important procedure. It is important because any surface, no matter how complex its shape, can be draped if splits are introduced in the draping material/fabric.
The overall model description is provided, followed by itemized steps to complete the example. Animations show model creation steps in the Patran Graphical User Interface.
