Ifyouarerighthandedyouwillneedtousearight handedbowandholditinyourlefthand.Thebow shouldnever touchtheground.Theywillgetdamaged easilybydirtgettinglodgedintheirwheels. Stance Yourbodyshouldbeparalleltothetargetwiththetipsof yourtoeslinedup(90degreeangle)withthecenterof thetarget. Onlyyourheadturnstofacethetarget,not yourentirebody. Nockinganarrow Thearrowhasmanypartsincluding:tip,shaft, fletching/feathers,cockfeather,andnock. Thenockis the partofthearrowthatconnectsittothebowstring. Youdo not needto holdontothearrow,thatisthe nocksjob! Theshaftofthearrowwillrestonthearrow restofthebow. Preptofire Graspthestringwiththreefingershavingthearrowin betweentheindexandmiddlefingers. Youshould not wrapyourfingersallthewayaroundthebowstring onlythetipsofyourfingersshouldbe usedtopullback onthestring. Next, turnyourheadtowardsthetarget andextendthe armholdingthebowso thatitisparallel tothegroundandstraight(nobentelbow). Firing Drawthearrowbackfarenoughsothatyouhandcomes backtoyourjawbone. Thisarmshouldalsobeparallel totheground(nochickenarm). Also,makesurethatthe elbowonthearm thatisholdingthebowisrotated outwardsothatthestringdoesntslaponyourarm. Aimingisdonewiththedominanteye,sightingdownthe endofthearrowtowardsthetarget.Toreleasethe arrow,simplyrelaxyourfingertips.Followthroughby keepingyourfingersrightbyyourfaceandyourbow armextendeduntilthearrowhashitthetarget.Ifyou dropyourarmstooquickly,thearrowcouldstillbe exitingitandwillgetknockedoffitspath. Justlikeanyothersportorskill ittakespracticetoreally getthehangofit. Ourgoalisnotforyoualltoleaveas expertarcherswhohitabullseyeeverytime,buttotry andtofeelmorecomfortablewithshootingthanwhen youarrived. Shooting: Dividethestudentsintothreegroups,onegroupper shootinglane.Thismeansthatonlythreepeopleare shootingatatime. Studentsshootthreearrowsbefore theygoandretrievethemforthenextpersoninline. Nooneshouldeverstepacrossthefiringline untilthe rangeclosedcommandisgiven,evenifyoudropand couldreachitwithinonestep.Itisimportanttohave patiencebecauseeveryonetakesdifferentamountsof timetoshoot. Toremoveyourarrowplaceone handflat againstthe target withthearrowcomingoutbetweenyourthumb andpointerfinger.Wraptheotherhand aroundthe arrow asclosetoyourfirsthandaspossibleandpull straightout. Donotwigglethearrowaroundtoremove it,simplypullasstraightaspossible. Thispreventsthe arrowsfrombendingandthetargetsfromgettinglarge holesinthem.
