Language Institute Thammasat University EL 321 Communicative Business English 2 Course Outline 2/2013 Course Description Practising listening,

speaking, reading and writing skills at a more advanced level; practising listening for main ideas and details; practising speaking using different business functions in pairs and in groups; performing role plays and simulations based on real life situations; reading for vocabulary enrichment and development of business ideas and concepts; writing to express ideas and opinions gained from reading, listening and speaking. Course Objectives This course aims to 1. improve students listening skills with in-class listening practices and assignments. 2. develop students oral and presentation skills 2. improve students vocabulary and reading skills. 3. improve students writing and grammar. 4. enable students to effectively function in an international business culture. Listening and Final Examination Monday Feb 24, 2014

Interview Before the midterm exam, an interview will be arranged by the teacher. Oral Presentation Before the final exam, students form a group of three or four to be responsible for an oral presentation on a business-related topic to be announced by the teacher. The oral together with power point presentation should last 10-15 minutes. Points will be awarded based on the quality of their presentation (content, language, and manner of presentation). Written Exams The midterm exam covers Chapters 5 and 6 while the final exam covers Chapters 7 and 8. Sections in the book such as About business, Vocabulary, Grammar and Writing will be included in each written exam. Listening Exam The listening exam will be administered at the beginning of the final exam. The VDO clips that will appear in a part of the listening exam are available at SALC. Make sure you have studied the materials before you come to the listening exam. Attendance Policy - Students are to maintain 80% of attendance. For instance, if your class meets twice a week, you can be absent no more than 3 times before the midterm and 3 times before the final exam. A point will be deducted for each absence. More than 6 absences from class will result in an automatic F. - Students who are more than 15 minutes late are considered absent.
