Surah Al Baqarah
Ayat 26

Surely Allah is not ashamed to set forth any parable-- (that of) a gnat or any thing above that; then as
for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord, and as for those who disbelieve,
they say: What is it that Allah means by this parable: He causes many to err by it and many He leads
aright by it! but He does not cause to err by it (any) except the transgressors,
M Shakir's Translation

Allah disdains not to use the similitude of things, lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know
that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means Allah by this similitude?"
By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray,
except those who forsake (the path),

Yusuf Ali's Quran Translation

Lo! Allah disdaineth not to coin the similitude even of a gnat. Those who believe know that it is the
truth from their Lord; but those who disbelieve say: What doth Allah wish (to teach) by such a
similitude? He misleadeth many thereby, and He guideth many thereby; and He misleadeth thereby
only miscreants;

Pickthall's Quran Translation

Parasites
Word Analysis: The Arabic word ‫ فوق‬can imply both top or smaller. in the verse means a gnat or an insect

and means 'the insect and what is on the top of it' or 'the insect and what is smaller than it'.

Amazingly, who could have thought in Prophet Muhammad's time that there are things smaller than the insects
even? Who could have thought that there are living organisms smaller than the mosquitoes even 1400 years ago
when there was no microscope no scientific knowledge? This verse amazingly points to those parasites that live
inside and on skin of other organisms. Parasites (scientifically) are organism that lives in or on a second organism,
called a host. Parasites exist in most life forms, from bacteria infected by the viruses known as bacteriophages, to
humans, who are subject to more than 100 parasites known to cause disease. In this, there are signs for those who
think.

Viruses are parasites that can reproduce only within a host cell. Outside of a host cell, a virus is an inert particle. Inside
a cell, a virus can replicate many times, creating thousands of viruses that leave the cell to find host cells of their own.
Viruses that cause disease do so by destroying or damaging cells as they leave them.
This document is based on my under process book. I plan to collect all the Ayaats of the Holy Quran with deal with
scientific, historical and archaeological subjects. I am trying to provide explanation to those Ayaats in light of
Previous commentaries (Tafaseer), established science, archaeological discoveries and Arabic lexicons. Send in
your comments, queries and suggestion at Muhammad.Awais.Tahir@gmail.com
