The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation The Port Mourant (National) Ophthalmology Centre Balwant Singh Hospital Ophthalmology Clinic Technical, Administrative, Academic and management staff of the UOG Dr Genalin Ang, Head Of Optometry Studies, Department Of Public Health, Faculty Of Health Sciences (UOG) and her team of Lecturers. The Staff of CCB-Eye Care Caribbean, here in Guyana and across the Region Other individuals and organizations who have helped us along the way, especially those in partner clinics in: The Commonwealth Of Dominica, Port-AuPrince, Haiti; Mandeville, Jamaica; ! and Castries, St. Lucia.

About our Bachelor of Science in Optometry Programme


The Bachelor of Science in Optometry offered by the University of Guyana (UOG), !is a 4-year programme, including internship. Based in the Department of Public Health, it is built on the core curriculum as prescribed by UK-based General Optical Council (GOC).In addition to! classes and simulated practice on campus, !students undertake clinical attachment (and eventually, their 6-credits internship)!in more than ten leading Eye Clinics and Eye Departments !in ve countries across the Caribbean. The rst Optometry cohort commenced training at the University Of Guyana in 2010. Today, there are three cohorts, !years 1, 2 and 4 (there was !no intake !in 2011). There are 82 students reading for the Optometry Bsc from ve countries in the region.The Programme will graduate its rst Optometrists in 2014. Graduates will be competent to practice at level 3 of the World Council of Optometrys! scope of practice. The BSO-UOG is! a key component of Vision 2020 (right to sight) goal !to increase the number of Eye Health Workers, in order to reduce avoidable blindness globally.It is anticipated that the Optometry Doctorate will! commence! in 2015. !I join the current cohorts of !UOG Optometry students in welcoming you to this their Annual Inaugural Dinner & Fete.
