PRECAUTIONARY STEPS FOR INVESTIGATIVE EXPERIMENTS ( FOR

PAPER 3)

N TYPES OF PRECAUTIONARY
O EXPERIMENT
1 LIGHT i. Experiment must be carried out in
darkened room
ii. Lens, screen and object must be in line
iii. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye
such that the line of view is
perpendicular to the scale of the ruler

2 SPRING i. Make sure the sping is not loaded

beyond the elastic limit ( spring return
to original length when load is taken off)
iv. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye
such that the line of view is
perpendicular to the scale of the ruler

3 ELECTRIC i. All connections must be secure / tight

ii. Off the switch after reading are taken to
prevent wire from heating up
( resistance increase)
v. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye

perpendicular to the scale of the
ammeter / voltmeter

4 HEAT i. Liquid must be stirred constantly so that

temperature rises evenly
ii. Alluminium block must be wrapped with
insulating material to prevent heat lost
iii. Thermometer bulb should be smeared
with oil to give better thermal contact
with the block
vi. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye
such that the line of view is
perpendicular to the scale of the
thermometer
5 MEASURING i. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye
