B y Z o r a n R a d o sa v l j e v i c There are numerous stanzas in ancient Jyotish texts, which seemingly defy logical and basic facts in studying Jyotish. I deliberately use the term SEEMINGLY, since the ancient Jyotish seers viewed this life from the inner, spiritual dimension, and subsequently, there is a deep logic underlying each sutra within ancient Jyotish texts... Lets explain this using a few examples: It is often stated that results of certain Grahas when placed in certain Bhava, are too general and non-logical. For example, some well-known authors expressed their doubts in the following. 1) For instance, Brighu sutras state that cattle th will be lost when Surya is placed in 8 house. The author finds it difficult to explain why.. I feel that both 6/12 houses ruling cattle will receive Paapa-Argala of Surya th from the 8 house. Further, Surya will have

Unfortunately, the learned commentator fails to explain this properly. (iii) Brighu sutras also state that th Saturn in the 5 house when strong will give many love affairs. Rasi, which is maraka for Vrishabha Rasi significator of eyes. Consequently, Budha afflicted (particularly by Mangala) is known to damage eyesight. Therefore, there are many subtle principles to be used when analyzing ancient texts. (vi) There is another unclear place in Brihat Parasara, when lords of the houses are concerned. For example Parasara states nd nd that lord of 2 when placed in 2 house gives two wives! Second house is the house of second marriage, thus when placed in own th house, it will not fail to do so. Being 8 house th to 7 house it will tend to give extra marital affairs (break of first marriage), and it is natural that Parasara says that lord of Lagna th nd or lord of 7 when placed in 2 house will give many wifes. It is also stated that lord of th th 4 house when placed in 8 will rob the person concerned of sexual virility. Neither house has anything to do explicitly with sex. th th Nevertheless, 4 house is 10 house from th 7 , which rules sexual contacts. It is the th house of sexual activities. 8 house is th maraka house for 7 house, which signifies sexual life. So the link exists. Further, th th Parasara says that if the 6 lord is in 10 house, the person would be an intelligent speaker and live in foreign lands. It sounds th strange at first sight. Yet, 6 house is trine nd th from 2 house of speech (5 -intelligence) nd th from 2 speech, so Grahas in 6 house may th influence the knowledge and intelligence (5 ) th of the speech. 10 house is according to Parasara living in foreign lands. It is true that th 9/12 houses more influence the living in th th foreign lands, but 10 is the opposite from 4 house which rules ones home, and th homeland. Lord of 6 house of obstacles th th would aspect 4 house by 7 aspect (opposing), which would give obstacles in the th homeland. Further 6 lord would have Argala th th over 9 house of traveling abroad, 12 house th of living abroad, and 7 house of journey. th There is also a sutra stating that 5 house th lord when placed in 8 house would give th pulmonary disorders. What has 5 house to do with chest and pulmonary system? It is th maraka of 4 ruling chest. So each papa Graha would damage chest, which is stated by Parasara, in his sutras about Lagnamsa th and Karakamsa (.Mangala or Rahu in 5 is to th give asthmatic disorders). 8 house is normally the house of chronic illness. Consequently, we may see that each sutra is very meaningful, despite the fact that some

commentaries find lots of slokas in classical texts strange and erroneous It is important that we take into account all astrological concepts with the sound mind. Lets see a few more examples: th th 1) It is a well known fact that 5 lord in 7 is a combination for love marriage. However, what happens in the case of mesh, Karkata, Tula and Makara (movable Lagna)? The order of the Grahas would be in the following order. 1. Neecha Surya 2. Uccha Mangala 3. Neecha Shani 4. Venus in Cancer We would see that lord of Badhak Sthana from th th 7 house would be placed in the 7 house itself. It would certainly give Badhak results to th the 7 house affairs, and some obstacles would be there in marital life. 2) Lets examine the lord of Lagna placed in

THE CONLUSION

It is evident that there are many hidden messages in the classic Jyotish texts. Thus it is unreasonable to reject any rule written in classics without prior deep consideration. There is a subtle and undefined logic underlying almost each sutra within the ancient texts. It is necessary to approach it with a lot of fate and humility for the sake of better understanding and gaining overall picture of the knowledge left by the Sages

The October 7th Lunar Occultation of Saturn awaits all the populace inhabiting the highlighted region shown in the accompanying map (Picture 1). Keep your eye on Saturn well before it disappears behind the moon. The slow approach it makes towards the disk of the moon, right in front of ones vision, can be quite a heady experience! It will be much more thrilling to know the exact timings when it will reappear behind the dark side of the moon. However, these timings could differ by a few minutes depending on your exact location within the city. There is another player in this field, a moon of Saturn by name Titan. The timings for this are not given as this can only be seen with large aperture telescopes. Detailed information on this event for any location can be obtained by mailing to the Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi at planetdl@bol.net.in An intriguing aspect of this celestial hide-andseek will be the differing position angles along which Saturn moves behind the moon, for different locations. Schematic views of these differences are shown in the accompanying picture 2.In this picture; Saturns relative location to the moon, just before and after the occultation is shown for different locations. The position of Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, is also shown after the occultation. Before the event Titan will be very difficult to observe without the sophisticated instruments. In a little while, the last quarter moon will be just about to rise. Relax on a reclining chair, facing east, and look out for this By the time the moon is comfortably visible above the eastern horizon, Saturn will be quite close to its bright face. Hidden, perhaps, in the glare of the moon and the city lights near the horizon, it will be easily visible using any modest binoculars or telescope. At around 10 pm, the eclipse is due. No, not a Lunar eclipse but an eclipse of Saturn as it goes behind the moon. The exact timings for this at different locations in the Indian neighborhood are given in the accompanying table. The disappearance of Saturn will be from the sunlit bright side of the moon and hence more difficult to detect. The reappearance, about an hour later, will, however, be from the dark side of the moon and likely to be more dramatic.

moon. What exactly is a lunar occultation? On a given evening the sky seems a constant uniform celestial dome that is turning with the diurnal motion of the earth. The relative positions of all the objects in the sky seem unchanging. However, we know that the nearer solar system objects change their locations against this constant background when we follow their motions patiently over a few weeks or months. In case of the moon, this change against the distant starry background is much more visible it is clearly evident from day to day. And yes, it will also be evident in a single evening, particularly when the disk of the moon moves over the face of a distant star, wiping it out from our sight for a while and then allowing it to reappear from the opposite limb after about an hour or so. These are the lunar occultations of distant stars or perhaps one of the planets. This motion of the moon, relatively speaking, is from the west to the east! Yes, the moon does move from the west to the east, relative to the constant background of the stars, while, relative to us, it appears to rise in the east and set in the west, the same as the sun and the stars. The event set for the 7th of October 2001, will be the occulting by the moon, of the ringed planet Saturn and one of its satellites, Titan. In the dark sky, when seen through even a moderate telescope, this will be a spectacular event spectacular enough, even for naked eye viewing. The telescope adds to the drama

(Lin Yutang) Jawaharlal Nehru. Conscious of the fact that an understanding of the spirit and method of science was crucial for children to become responsible citizens, Nehru liked every opportunity to be provided to them in this endeavor. In 1964, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund was set up to promote his ideas and subsequently it undertook to build the Nehru Planetarium with its primary aim being the promotion of astronomy and space education. Inaugurated by the then Prime Minister, Smt.Indira Gandhi, on 6th February, 1984,the Planetarium has come a long way in disseminating knowledge about astronomy to the general public and astronomy enthusiasts and students in particular. The Planetarium building archaeologically gels with a nearby monument, the Kushak Mahal, a 13th century hunting lodge built by the Lodi rulers. The airconditioned sky theatre has a dome-shaped screen made of fibreglass with 26 curved segments and one million hand-drilled holes for clear acoustics. The sky theatre with a capacity of seating 270 people is essentially meant for screening taped and live public shows on various aspects of astronomy. In the center of the theatre is a well, housing the Carl Zeiss Space flight Master projector placed on a hydraulic lift, which enables it to come up during the shows. The gallery around the sky theatre helps in locating the slide and special effects projectors. Besides the sky theatre, the

Planetarium also has an exhibit area, which displays many interactive models and pictures. Visitors have the rare privilege of looking at the historic space module Soyuz T-10 that carried Indias first cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma, to space along with his space suit and mission journal. Event-based photo exhibitions are also mounted from time to time. Theatre The Planetarium organizes taped shows on topics of interest to the general public. Some of these include our cosmic heritage, the solar system, Halleys comet and the life story of a star. Curriculum-based shows especially designed on demand from school and college students are accompanied by a live lecture followed by an interactive question-answer session. They are a fruitful experience for the students. For more effective learning, students are also provided with activity sheets based on the shows. Story-based childrens show is another innovative form of effectively communicating with the students. Outreach Activities Under its outreach activities the Nehru Planetarium organizes space art contests, astronomy quiz contests, telescope making workshops, astrophotography workshops, astronomy camps, evening or night sky watch and public lectures from time to time throughout the year. The Amateur Astronomers Association, New Delhi (AAAD), a fraternal organization, closely collaborates with the Planetarium in organizing these activities. The Association also keeps in touch with its counterparts in other States by holding annual meets. The Planetarium has been designing activities and programmes on astronomy to fulfill the needs of the school syllabus. The success of these programmes can be gauged from the fact that many schools have made the planetarium visit a mandatory feature during the academic year. The in-house faculty at the Planetarium also assists senior school and college students in their astronomy-related project work. The Planetarium recently started a new astronomy magazine, Krittika, this year to provide information as well as create a forum for students and teachers to discuss issues related to sky watching and astronomy. Interested persons can avail themselves of a free inaugural issue by sending an e-mail request at planetdl@bol.net.in .The Nehru Planetarium has also started participatory egroups for those interested in astronomy. For those interested in pursuing a career in astronomy, a science degree at the graduation or post-graduate level is a must. Delhi and Osmania Universities offer astronomy related courses. Some of the other reputed institutes engaged in the fields of teaching, research and development in astronomy and astrophysics are the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai; the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune; Raman Research Institute, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. Job avenues are available in teaching and research fields. The Planetarium has been constantly improvising and innovating programmes for its visitors. Plans are afoot to upgrade the existing Planetarium equipment to bring it at par with other planetarium in the world. There is also a proposal to introduce diploma courses on image processing and data analysis for college students. With its pioneering work in the field of astronomy education, New Delhis Nehru Planetarium has earned accolades from various quarters.

SHIV SENA PARTY

It is evident that the Agni Tatwa was predominating at the time of formation of this party showing its clear political objective and social correction philosophy. It is evident that the Agni Tatwa was predominating at the time of formation of this party showing its clear political objective and social correction philosophy. Cancer Lagna th rises with the Lagna Lord Moon in the 12 house of self-renunciation in Ardra Nakshatra. The four-planet conjunction shows that the party shall have a very strong spiritual base and will not be addicted to power or power hungry nor will it renounce the same as this combination is in a Dusthana. The conjunction of the Sun & Jupiter with the Lagna Lord shows that the party derives its strength from temples (Sun), educational institutions (Jupiter) and Libraries and trading places (Mercury). Ketu in the fifth in own house shows the followers as being belligerent and determined fighters and that many people in the Armed forces (Ketu) will support the party due to its strong stand against anti-national elements. Ketu in a Martian sign can also show some outlaw elements mingling amongst the partys workers and this will hamper the image of the party as this Ketu is placed in the seventh house from the Arudha Lagna (AL) in Taurus. Rahu in AL also spoils the image of the party and being the Atmakaraka not only shows that the party is formed on a very strong spiritual foundation, but also that the party shall be cheated by others but will not cheat anybody. This speaks volumes about the spiritual directions and lessons that the party members will learn as they progress.

The ISTA DEVATA or the guiding deity of any chart is th seen from the 12 house from the Atmakaraka in the Navamsa called Karakamsa. Rahu is in Capricorn Navamsa and MOON & Venus are in th the 12 house showing that the guiding deity is a feminine form. Between Venus and Moon, the latter qualifies as stronger in Sagittarius. Thus, there not an iota of doubt left that the Ista Devata of the Shiv Sena Party is DURGA and that Her specific form is VIJAYA or CHAMUNDI. The party will naturally adopt its symbols and the tiger; Her Vahana (vehicle) will form the symbol of the party. The party can be rejuvenated and strengthened if its leaders worship Durga everyday in the evening with the most powerful Navarna Mantra. For the readers benefit, I am giving the mantra:

The advent of Saturn dasa in 1998 resulted in the Sena losing power in th th Maharashtra as Saturn is the malefic 7 & 8 lord and is placed in the sixth house from Lagna and fifth from the Moon. It is noteworthy that there are two Vipareeta Rajyoga in the placement of Saturn as eighth lord in the sixth house and Mercury as the malefic twelfth and third lord in the eighth house. Mercury is not only placed in the eighth house from Dasamsa Lagna, but is also in the third house from Saturn. All these mutual ill placements strengthen the Vipareeta Rajyoga results. This will function during Mercury antardasa in Jupiter dasa, which is from July 2001 to April 2004. During this period, due to sheer good luck the party shall gain considerable political mileage through the mistakes made by its competitors as well as their ill health or death (eighth house results). Around December 2001 to February 2001, in the Ketu antardasa there will be a sudden spurt of events resulting in major political changes as its leadership base is strengthened. Just like the worship of Ganesh leads to the love of Shiva, the Sena will rejuvenate its youth wing by inculcating spiritual discipline and intellectualism among its younger followers. This will pay a rich dividend in the years to come, especially after 2009 when the party will be in its greatest glory with this new third tier leadership proving it worth in all activities like business, literary and entertainment. The presence of the Moon (Ista Devata) with Yogakaraka Mars (lord of power th th 5 house and success 10 house) shows the th gradual molding of its cadre (5 house) to form th new leaders (10 house). It is necessary for the party to focus on the needs of elder women and mothers (Moon).
