INTRODUCTION
Genera abour wefare means efforts to make fe
worth vng for workmen factores act 1948 t provdes
varous abour wefare measures and t appes to a
estabshment empoyng 10 or more workers where power s
used and 20 or more workers where power s not used, and
where manufacturng process s beng carred on .
It provdes for the foowng,

psychoogca, psychoogca and envronment crcumstance
that cause a person to truthfuy say I am satsfed wth
organzaton provdng wefare schemes, heath schemes,

Wefare s a broad concept referrng to a state of vng of
an ndvdua or a group n a desrabe reatonshp wth the
tota envronment, ecoogca economc and Soca Labour
Wefare may be vewed as a tota concept as a soca concept
and as a reatve concept. Tota concept nvoves the physca,
menta, mora and emotona we-beng. The soca concept
mpes the wefare of man, hs famy and hs communty. The
reatve concept of wefare mpes that wefare s reatve n
tme and pace. Wefare s a comprehensve term and refers to
the physca, menta, mora and emotona we beng of the
ndvdua. The Oxford Dctonary defnes wefare as efforts
to make fe worth vng for worker. Labour wefare by ts
nature must necessary be eastc bearng a somewhat
dfferent nterpretaton n one country from another, wefare
measures can be broady dvded nto 2 categores

Statutory wefare s composed of those areas of wefare
work whch depend for ther mpementaton on the coercve
power of the Government.

empoyers undertake for ther workers on a vountary bass.

Industra works consttuted by the I.L.O. n 1963 dvded
wefare servces nto the foowng groups.

and bathng factes, Canteens and Unform. Wefare
amentes outsde the estabshment vz., Maternty beneft,
Soca nsurance measures ncudng Gratuty, Penson,
Provdent Fund, Famy Pannng, Educaton factes.

Maternty beneft s one of the mportant benefts provded
under the empoyees State Insurance Act, 1948; ths act
enttes a women empoyee to cam maternty eave from her
empoyer. If she has actuay worked for a perod of ateast
160 days n the 12 months mmedatey precedng the day of
her expected devery. The act aso provdes for 6 weeks eave
wth wages n care of medca termnaton of pregnancy.

Under the act gratuty s payabe to an empoyee on the
termnaton of hs empoyment after he has rendered
contnuous servce for not ess than fve years. Gratuty s
payabe at the rate of 15 days wages based on the rate of
wages ast drawn by the empoyee for every competed year of
servce or part thereof n excess of 6 months. The amount of
gratuty payabe to an empoyee sha not exceed Rs. 3.5.
Lakh.

progress and for ther menta and physca deveopment. It s
aso mportant that the chdren of the workers shoud be

sector enterprses. Ths ncudes provson of Prmary, |unor
and Hgher Secondary Schoos.

Empoyees whether n prvate or n Pubc sectors, have been
provdng medca factes for ther workers and ther fames,
even before the ntroducton of Empoyee State Insurance
Scheme. These undertakngs has provded, by and arge,
sutaby equpped frst-ad centre, ambuance room and even
reguar hosptas ether nsde the factory premses or
approved by the company. Besdes genera medca treatment
and heath care, separate arrangement for specast treatment
for dsease ke T.B., Cancer, Leprosy, Menta dsease have aso
been made n any Hosptas.
