5.1 INTRODUCTION Coimbatores growth is sustained by a variety of industrial activities, with textiles being at the core of all industrial activity, which revolutionized the regions industrial scene. The ever growing urban population is exerting tremendous pressure on natural resources like land and water. In addition, Proper housing, sanitation, health care, transportation, educational institutions power and water supply play a major role, further complicating the issues of city planning and utilities management which has severe implications on the quality of urban life. The remote sensing and GIS based approach is the appropriate method to tackle such problems in time as well as spatial context. Using GIS a number of problems can be solved by geographic analysis such as town ship development, relationships between agricultural parameters such as yield and salinity, land capability analysis, site locations for facilities, environmental problems such as animal migration etc. Urban planning includes preparation Perspective Plan, Development Plan, Annual Plan, Schemes and projects, Participatory approach for supply of land and infrastructure development.

5.2 OBJECTIVE Urbanization is the rapid development of a region with necessary requirements that meets the day to day needs of the population of that region. We have considered the Coimbatore city to evaluate the effects and cause of urbanization for the past few years. Coimbatores growth is sustained by a variety of industrial activities, with textiles being at the core of all industrial activity, which revolutionized the regions industrial scene. 5.3 PROPOSED METHODOLOGY

5.4 WORK PLAN 1. DATA COLLECTION

Density Pattern- The density of Coimbatore city is found to be 8,815 persons per sq km. Census of year 2001 &2014-The census data shows great variation from past to the present. Population Trends and Urbanization- Can identify less populated areas, Area with water sources can be identified, Forest and nearby roads can be easily accessed.

2. DIGITIZATION

The process of representing an analogue signal or an image by a discrete set of its points is known as digitizing. It can be either manual, heads-up, interactive tracing, automatic etc. -4-

3. GEO REFERENCING Geo referencing is the process of scaling, rotating, translating and deskewing. The image to match a particular size and position. It is necessary because raster image made up of pixels and has no particular size. Without geo referencing, the vectorised CAD/GIS drawing size is determined by the raters pixel dimensions (the width and height of the raster in pixels).

4. ARITHMETIC OVERLAY Arithmetic overlay is the core part of GIS analysis operation. It combines several spatial features to generate new spatial elements. In other word it can be defined as a spatial operation, which combines different geographic layers to generate new information. Overlay is of two types- vector overlay and raster overlay.

5. MODEL BUILDER Model builder is an application and a graphical tool for designing, simulating and analysing mathematical models consisting of a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Model builder accelerates the modelling life cycle from data acquisition to scoring system development.

6. CREATING DATABASE FOR QUERY OPTIMISATION Query optimisation is a function of many relational database management systems. The query optimiser attempts to determine the most efficient way to execute the given query by considering the possible query plans. A query is a request for informations from a database. Most query optimisers represent query plans as a tree of plan notes.

7. ANALYSIS Analysis is the process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts to gain a better understanding of it. Also examination of data and fact to uncover and is costeffective.
