Pastoral Deliverance Ministry

Introduction
Deliverance ministries have been evolving since the early church. Jesus cast out demons. Paul cast a python spirit out of girl in Philippi. Later, in the early church, exorcisms were common for those undergoing the rite of baptism.1 Today, Hollywood has left its indelible stamp on the mind of people on what they think about when it comes to freeing people up from the demonic. Deliverance ministries come in all shapes, sizes and practices. For the Healing Encounter Ministry, we seek to provide training for our prayer teams for a pastoral style deliverance ministry. That means we want to honor and respect the person being prayed for. We also want to empower them to rise up in their authority in Christ to break their bondages, to be set free and to maintain their freedom. We avoid any showmanship or histrionics. Our desire is to see people set free in a way that is calm, peaceful and effective. In the process of deliverance, we actually want to be training the person how to walk out their deliverance as well as being equipped to help others in the future. To accomplish this goal, we are breaking up the teaching into three basic sections. The first section will cover the authority and power of Jesus, the authority and power that he gives us, the weapons of our warfare, and the basic nature and common roots of spiritual strongholds. The second section will cover the five keys to the pastoral deliverance process as depicted in the CRRRY Out training. These keys can be adapted in many different situations in dealing with spiritual strongholds. The final section in this training will be covering the best practices in the ten step deliverance model used by Randy Clark and developed by Pablo Bottari. While some people will particularly be called and equipped for this ministry, others will find it useful but not their primary passion. However, with the Healing Encounter Ministry, we desire to equip our leaders so that they might be thoroughly trained for every good work.

Part 1: Background to Deliverance Ministry


A. The Victory of Jesus
1. All Powers and Authorities were made by Christ and for Christ
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. John 1:1-3 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Col 1:15-19

All angelic hosts, powers and authorities were made by Him and for Him. The angelic hordes that fell, rebelled against His love and rightful rule. They currently stand in opposition and terror to the fulfillment of His coming rule.

2. Jesus came as the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One for the work of Deliverance
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19

3. Jesus First Coming was to undo the work of the devil and redeem people from his grasp.
giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1:12-14 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 1 John 3:8-9

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. Acts 10:38

4. Jesus described what took place when he delivered someone


Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, "By Beelzebub, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your followers drive them out? [See Luke 9:49-50] So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils. Luke 11:14-15;19-22

Jesus calls Satan or the demonic a strong man. The enemy has some armory in which he is trusting to protect his possessions. It takes someone stronger to come, overpower him, taking away the armor in which the strong man trusted so that the possessions can be liberated. Understanding the armory of the enemy and how our weapons are superior will become part of this training.

5. The Ultimate Victory of Jesus was in the Cross


When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Col 2:13-15

Jesus disarmed the authorities and powers that stood against us. Their original strength came in condemnation and accusation against us because we were guilty under the law. We were dead in our sins and helpless in any way to get right with God. Jesus bore our guilt taking away the accusers right to condemn. We are forgiven! We have now been made alive in Christ. With that, we are now righteous in Gods sight. Just like the defeated armies of old that were led by procession into the Victors city, so Jesus made a public spectacle of His enemies and he did is by the cross.

6. After Jesus rose from the dead, he was exalted to the place of supreme authority. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he
exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over

everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Eph 1:19-23 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:9-11 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 28:18-20

B. Our Authority in Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit


1. As followers of Jesus we have been given amazing power and authority.
Eph 1:18-21 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Luke 9:1-2 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Luke 10:17-19 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." 18 He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Eph 2:4-6 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God

raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

2. Jesus has given us the KEYS to the kingdom of heaven. Keys are a sign of authority. We use keys to open closed doors and to lock doors we do not want opened. Keys demonstrate a person has authority of access. Keys to the kingdom of heaven means we have access to all that the Father permits in heaven to bring down to earth. As Jesus came to bring the kingdom of heaven, so he has given his church, his people, authority to continue that work through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Matt 12:29 "Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

3. The Weapons of our Warfare


2 Cor 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ

Our weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds! 7

Luke 11:21-22 "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22 But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils.

An overview of the Weapons of our Warfare (described in more detail later) include: o Our Authority in Christ o The Power of the Holy Spirit in us o Gods armor: belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes fit for the readiness of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, prayer o Forgiveness: both receiving and extending to others o Confession and Repentance o Declarations of Renouncing, Evicting, and Closing Doors o Loosing and Binding o Resisting o Being filled with the Holy Spirit o Inner Healing o Blessing others o Worship and Thanksgiving o The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

C. Strongholds 1. Literal and Figurative Meanings in the Old Testament


In the Old Testament scriptures, the words used for stronghold could include: metsuwdah (mets-oo-daw'); it can be translated as a net, or capture; - castle, defense, fort (-ress), (strong) hold, be hunted, net, snare, strong place. This is where we get the name Masadathe ancient fortress at the Dead Sea.
Ps 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

misgab (mis-gawb'); a cliff (or other lofty, inaccessible place); abstractly, figuratively, a refuge: KJV - defense, high fort (tower), refuge
Ps 9:9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

ma`owz (maw-oze'); a fortified place; a defense: KJV - force, fort (-ress), rock, strength (-en), strong (hold).

Ps 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?

The concept of stronghold is often in military terms as a castle, fortress, a high place of defense where a person can find refuge and protection. David often used the words for stronghold in the psalms as a description of the Lords protection for himself. In this sense, stronghold often has a very positive meaning. In Proverbs we find that strongholds can be attacked and pulled down. It says, in Prov 21:22
A wise man attacks the city of the mighty and pulls down the stronghold in which they trust.

So we find this picture of warfare where the wise man can attack the stronghold of a mighty one, and must pull down the stronghold in which they trusted. There is application here for us in deliverance ministry as we will see later. 2. Stronghold in the New Testament There is only one passage in the New Testament that uses the word stronghold.

Stronghold: an area in a persons life that is operating contrary to the will of God but the person has no hope of it ever being changed. Every stronghold is rooted in a diminished or deficient view of God. arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. Strongholds are centered in the mind and thinking of a person but are reinforced by our behavior Strongholds are held in place by lies believed. When we believe the lies we come in agreement with the enemy and empower his work in our lives. The deception we believe can affect several areas including: o Our Identity in Christ o The authority and power we wield o The hopelessness of our condition

Breaking strongholds requires that we come out of agreement with the enemy.
o 2 Cor 6:14-16 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.

The word agreement was used in ancient Greece when two parties voted together to approve some measure or law. They cast their votes for the same things. As believers, we are not to vote the enemys party line. When we vote like the enemy votes then we open doors for his activity in our lives.

Who Can Have a Stronghold or be in Bondage? Daimonizomai demonization (to have a demon) Demon cannot possess a Christianbut a Christian can have a demon. Range of levels of impact demon can have on a Christian Ministry of pastoral deliverance is primarily for believers! Dont want to cast demon out of a non-believer if they dont know Jesus. Person must be able to have house swept clean and filled with Holy Spirit to walk out deliverance. Otherwise situation can be 7 times worse than before!
o Luke 11:24-26 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first."

People ask, what about the verse, He who is in me is stronger than he who is in the world. Verse is true! That is why we cannot be possessedwe are bought and paid for by ChristHe owns us. Also we have the power by the Holy Spirit to evict all spirits, send them packing, and keep them from coming back. However, we have to close any open doors, come out of agreement with the enemy, and exercise the power and authority we have.

D. Six Doors to Bondage and Strongholds


1. Identifying if there is a Demonic Stronghold Past Activities are indicators o Involvement in witchcraft, magic, New Age, Cults, or other religious movements. o Addictive behavior with drugs, alcohol, sex o Gang involvement o Violent behavior, raging, o Pride o Victim of sexual abuse o Illicit sexual activity o Ancestors involved in any of the above activities (generational sin; familiar spirits) or being cursed. o Past Offenses that have not been forgiven and where bitterness and resentment has set in. Current Symptoms o Frequent Night Terrors o Frequent visits by spirits at night o Unusual powers or knowledge that is accessible to you and used for wrong reasons o Frequent unusual thoughts or voices pushing you to do something evil or wrong. o Uncontrollable, intense urges towards anger, lust, rage, hatred, cursing, bitterness o Inability to read the Word, pray, worship or listen to messages. o Physical manifestations during prayer, worship, etc. (snarling faces, sneers, internal swearing and cursing) o Confusion, inability to think straight. o Continual and intense FEAR and DOUBT that seems relentless. o Headaches, nausea Attacks by the Enemy When Working with a Person o Physical choking, bear hugs, shaking, squeezing, pinching o Confusion o Fear and doubt o Loss of hearing o Dark cloud, oppression, despair o Illness and pain o Headaches, nausea

2. Active and Passive Agreements that Open Doors to Bondage In this section we want to examine SIX different open doors to spiritual bondage or strongholds. Three of these doors come about as a result of our ACTIVE participation and agreement with the enemy. Three of the doors occur where we were more PASSIVE in the situation but we have ACQUIESSED to the enemys activity and we have not actively sought to break the bondage. The different doors are: ACTIVE: Unforgiveness; Activity in the occult or other religions; willful sin and partnership with the enemy. PASSIVE: Trauma and wounds in our childhood; Generational Sin; Curses ACTIVE PARTICIPATION 1. Unforgiveness Eph 4:26-28 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while
you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

Do not give the devil a foothold. The Greek word here is topos. It literally means either a place or an opportunity. That means when we let anger grow into bitterness and resentment while we harbor unforgiveness two things can happen: a) We create an opportunity or an open door for the enemy to have his influence b) We give the enemy a place, space, or territory in our lives. Parable of the Unforgiving Servant Matt 18:32-35 "Then the master
called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

o Jesus teaches us that unforgiveness opens the door for us to be held by the jailer and tortured. o Many believe that is a description of the enemys work in our lives when we walk out from under the covering and protection of the Father by holding bitterness and resentment in our lives. o When we say the Lords Prayer we ask our Father, Matt 6:12
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
o

That means, if we dont forgive but hold resentment, anger, and a harsh attitude towards those that wronged uswe want our Father to treat us the same way.

2. Occultic Practices or Other Religions Worship of other gods: 1 Cor 10:14-22 Therefore, my dear friends,

flee from idolatry. 15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. 18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? 19 Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he? Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.

Occultic Practices to obtain knowledge and power: Deut 18:10-13

Corrupt views of Jesus: 2 Cor 11:2-4 I am jealous for you with a godly
jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

Myriad of spiritual distortions: 1 Tim 4:1-2 The Spirit clearly says that
in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

Legalism: Gal 3:10 All who rely on observing the law are under a
curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law."

Religious Spirit: Col 2:8;20-21 See to it that no one takes you captive
through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on ChristSince you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21 "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"?

3. Sin and Partnerships/Alliances with the Enemy (Not an exhaustive list!) Sexual Sin I Cor 6:13-16 "Everything is permissible for me"-but
not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"-but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."

Pride 1 Tim 3:4 1 Tim 3:6 He must not be a recent convert, or he


may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. Rom 1:28-32 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are arrogant and boastful; 32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Rebellion 1 Sam 15:22-23 But Samuel replied: "Does the Lord


delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king."

Deception John 8:42-44 Jesus said to them, "If God were your
Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Murder/Violence- John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and


kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Fear/Worry Heb 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he
too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy

him who holds the power of death that is, the devil 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Rom 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave
again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

Greed Col 3:5 Col 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs
to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

Substance Abuse - Eph 5:18-19 Do not get drunk on wine, which


leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

1 Thess 5:4-9 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day
should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

PASSIVE ACQUIESSENCE 4. Trauma and Wounds in our Youth When we experience trauma and wounds in our youth, we generally dont have the capacity to fully understand and cope with the pain. We can often interpret the event negatively or begin to believe lies about ourselves or about God. The lies believed opens doors for the enemy to construct a stronghold in our life. TRAUMA/PAIN + LIES -- STRONGHOLD

Matt 18:5-8 "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name
welcomes me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

Mark 9:20-22 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it

immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?" "From childhood," he answered. 22 "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."

5. Generational Sin
Generational Sin Is A Result of the Fall. When Adam rebelled against God he opened the door to sin and death for all his descendents. As Rom 5:12 says, Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. Sin and death have been our inheritance from our original father. His brokenness and his alienation from God has been our initial birthright when we enter the world. We all come into this world inheriting both Gods image and Adams image. As scripture says, Gen 5:1-4 This is the written account of Adam's line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man." 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. Sin, death, brokenness, are passed on from generation to generation. This is the foundational root of all generational sin. Generational Sin as the Consequences of our Fathers Sins When God revealed his glory to Moses by declaring His name to him, he declared: (Ex 34:6-7) "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." We know in the Law, God told Israel not to hold or punish the children for the sins of their fathers (Deuteronomy 24:16). How then do we understand the previous passage? At that time, a household would generally include three or four generations living together under the leadership of the patriarch. When the patriarch turned away from God, generally he led his whole household astray. Consequences for his sin would naturally affect him and those who lived with him. We see the same things today. An alcoholic father who doesnt hold a job can influence and cause all those in his household to suffer. They are not immune to the consequences of his sin. The Deuteronomy passage effectively protects children from LEGAL PENALTIES within society from being handed down as a result of a parents behavior. It does not mitigate against natural consequences that befall families. Generational Sin as the result of our learning sin patterns from past generations. Family patterns and dysfunctional behaviors are easy to learn and be passed on from generation to generation. Much of life is caught as well as taught. Proverbs speaks of this pattern when it says:

Prov 22:24-25 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.

Divorce, sexual immorality, alcoholism, pornography, violence, greed, fear, anxiety, low self-esteem and many other sins and behaviors are passed down from one generation to another. Even those traits we hate in our parents we often end up displaying to our own chagrin. People often make inner vows saying, I will NEVER be like________ only to find themselves a mirror image. Generational Sin that we inherit as propensities or dispositions to sin in certain matters. More recent medical and scientific studies have identified some genetic traits that can lead to specific addictions and dysfunctional behaviors. These traits, in and of themselves do not cause the behavior, but put certain people at greater risk in contracting dysfunctional patterns. In this manner, these generational traits are passed on from one generation to another. Generational Sin where spiritual strongholds are passed down from generation to generation due to acquiescence. Spiritual strongholds can be developed in a persons life by their participation in other religions, the occult, through addictions, unforgiveness, drug abuse and other means. These sin patterns become ingrained deeply through the power of spiritual forces that set up dominion in an area of our lives. Usually these strongholds are held and protected by a diminished view of God, fear, and deception. When such a stronghold is established in a persons life, the children of the person are at greater risk of being targets of similar strongholds because of their lack of defenses against the spiritual forces. For example, children of parents involved in the occult often develop strongholds early on. Children raised in other religious systems can develop strongholds from the family practice. Children whose parents have a stronghold of fear, are easily susceptible for creating their own stronghold of fear.

6. Curses CURSE When a curse is pronounced against any person, we are not to understand this as a mere wish, however violent, that disaster should overtake the person in question, any more than we are to understand that a corresponding "blessing" conveys simply a wish that prosperity should be the lot of the person on whom the blessing is invoked. A curse was considered to possess an inherent power of carrying itself into effect. International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia,

A curse was attached to violating the covenant: Gal 3:10 All who rely
on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law."

Jesus took our curse for not obeying the Law. Gal 3:13 Christ
redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

Curses are means of enlisting the help of god(s) or spirit(s) to cause harm or evil towards another.

o Num 22:4-6 So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that
time, 5 sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the River, in his native land. Balak said:"A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me. 6 Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed."

We can curse ourselves: Matt 26:73-74 After a little while, those


standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away." Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!"

Curses are real. They can be taken by members of the family (Freemasonry) and extended to family members. They can be spoken over a person in the past and directed towards their descendants. In the mission field, where you are dealing with other religious backgrounds, they can target Christians for their work in the kingdom. Jesus death on the cross took the penalty of the curse for being lawbreakers off our plate. However we still suffer the curse on the land from Adams rebellion against God. With the coming of the kingdom we can break curses. We see in Rev 22:2-3 On each side of the
river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse.

Summary: Whether strongholds and bondages came as a result of an Active


Participation or Passive Acquiescence, they are removed and dismantled the same way. The next section will describe how through the CRRRY Out process people are set free.

guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment. Gods Word: Heb 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Gods People (caution) Gal 6:1 says, Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

Confession: (exomologeo; homologeo) to acknowledge or agree fully. Confession is agreeing with God about our condition. Confessing is stating, This behavior is wrong. It requires conviction by the Holy Spirit and humility on our part for it to be effective. Our longing is to COVER UP OUR SINto HIDE ITTO KEEP IT SECRET.But Ps. 32 tells us the only true way to cover up our sin is to expose it! Ps 32:1-5
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"--and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my
teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Ps 36:1-2 An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the


wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin.

1 John 1:8-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the


truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

Confession is agreeing with God about our condition. However, we can agree with God and still have no desire to change. We might actually like our condition. That type of confession does not bring about life change. Real change is when we link Confession with Repentance.

B. Repentance
1. Biblical Background Definition: repentance: (metanoeo) change of mind-to have another mind; to think differently; to turn. Repentance is foundational to the Christian life. Heb 6:1 Therefore
let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death

It works best if there is hatred toward our sin. Paul gives an example when writing to the church in Corinth. He wrote: 2 Cor 7:8-10 Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did
regret it-I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while- 9 yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Repentance was the main message of Jesus! Jesus said Mark 1:14-15 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into
Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

Again when he rebuked the religious leaders he told them Matt 21:31-32"I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes
are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Repentance was a clear teaching of the early Church. The apostles, in the great commission recorded in Luke are told Luke 24:46-47 "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the
dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Repentance is Key to breaking bondage and setting people free 2 Tim 2:24-26 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must
be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

2. The Practice of Repentance Jesus said it was by REPENTANCE that we enter the kingdom and it is by REPENTANCE that the kingdom of God grows with us. It is by REPENTANCE that right to occupy territory that the enemy has is broken and we give the HOLY SPIRIT authority to move in and clean house.

In repentance, we come out of agreement with the enemy, we come to our senses, we have a change in mind and heart and turn to the Lord. Repentance re-establishes our authority in Christ and empowers us to operate in the keys of the kingdom.

Often our sin is our attempt to meet legitimate needs (belonging, value, competency, security) in illegitimate ways. This is a form of IDOLATRY! Naming our need during our time of confession and repentance helps to uncover the root of our sin. If you are not sure what the root isask the Lord to reveal it to you so that the healing process can follow the repentance. In repentance we turn from our idolsthose things we pursued to meet our needs, and we turn to the One, True, Living God.

3. Identification Repentance for Generational Sin In the case of generational sin, there are times we must stand in the gap on behalf of our ancestors and confess and repent of their sin for our family line. That then empowers us to break any bondage or ties that our family line had with the enemy. We stand as a representative of our family and come out of agreement with the enemys ways. Daniel gave a great example of Identification Repentance in Daniel 9 when he stood before God and repented for the sins of his fathers. Many of the sins he confessed Daniel never committed. However Daniel would declare, We have been wicked 4. Example Prayer of Repentance: Lord I confess to you that I have put other people in your place. I have been more concerned what other people thought than what you think. In order to please other people and get my value and sense of belonging through other people I have o lied and exaggerated the truth o been drinking and involved in sexual activity that was wrong. o participated in coarse joking and lurid speech to gain their approval o stolen property on their behalf They were my gods, not you. God I repent of that activity. I am saddened to see how my behavior has damaged other people, damaged my body and spurned your love for me. I turn from those ways and choose to please you first. I turn away from getting drunk and all sexual activity outside of marriage. I purpose to speak the truth in love. I know I have wronged you and sinned against my own bodyI repent and ask your forgiveness in the name of Jesus.

C. Renunciation
1. Renounce: (apeipon) to disown If confession is agreeing with Godand repentance is a change of heart and a turning towards GodRENOUNCING is cutting off and disowning the past ways and any demonic influence associated with that area of your life. It is looking at your old patterns and habits and sinful behavior and sayingI want nothing more to do with you. I renounce this past behavior as wrong. Renouncing is an authoritative declaration that stands on the shoulders of our repentance. Without first repentingwe have no authority to renounce. In repenting first we establish that we mean what we say when we renounce. Renouncing has three components: (1) Disowning past ways; (2) Evicting and driving out demonic activity; (3) closing any open doors.

2. Understanding How Strongholds Work Chuck Kraft remove the garbage and the rats go away. Renouncing is taking the spiritual authority you have as a child of God and speaking to the enemy to go away, cutting all ties that were once there. Here is a person that has a compartment in their life that is a battle ground for being under Gods control or under the control of the flesh, the world, or Satan. There are times when we come I agreement with the enemy, that we open the door for the enemy to have authority in that area of our lives. In some cases it could be a foothold (handhold or stronghold- different levels of strength).

: An area of our life where we believe we cannot change even though it is against the known revealed will of God. : Opportunity we have given the enemy in our lives due to sin, rebellion or unforgiveness. Some open doors are a result of generational sin, childhood trauma or curses. : Ways that the enemy will shape our behavior through temptation, lies, deceit, fear and intimidation. His power to influence is greatly increased by his ability to hold onto the stronghold or handhold we have created. 24

3. Roles of Confession, Repentance and Renouncing (Garbage Removal) Confession is acknowledging the area of sin and the stronghold. Repentance is turning from the lie and turning to God. Repentance with godly sorrow cleans out the stronghold and removes the authority that that enemy had to influence, intimidate and act in our lives. Renouncing is a declaration to demonic forces that they have no more authority in that area of your life and you command them to leave. Renouncing then closes the door to the compartment of your life and allows you to invite the Holy Spirit to fill you there. We will discuss that later. Repentance and Renouncing are often a one-two punch for deliverance of demonic activity in the lives of people. Confession and Repentance are both PRAYERS TO GOD. . Renunciation is an authoritative declaration TO THE ENEMY

4. Example Prayer of Confession/Repentance/ Renunciation: Father I confess to you now my hatred of my mom and women. I have sought ways to dominate them sexually and act out my hatred in ways that would promote my sense of power. I see now it was my way of protecting that little boy who was abused so young. I repent of my activities and hatred. They have been destructive to other people and relationships. I have hurt many women through my selfish and self-centered survival tactics. I turn from all such activity and call it wrong and Father I turn to you to meet my needs. I renounce my old ways as a means of revenge and seeking power. I renounce Satan and his influence in my life because of these events. I want nothing to do with your ways of giving me power. I rebuke you and all your activity and declare you must leave. I close every door that I had opened due to my sin and unforgiveness. I turn this area of my life over to the Lordship of Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to fill me and wash me clean. In Jesus name.

Walking Out Your Deliverance


Getting free from the enemy and breaking down strongholds is huge in the life of any believer. There is much to rejoice in that victory. However, we must be careful not to stop at this place. The person who has just been set free must be trained and prepared to walk out their deliverance. They enemy will not easily walk away defeated without first trying to recapture the territory. The enemy is a thief and a robber. Just like a thief, the enemy will bang on doors and windows of the believers life to see if there are any openings or entrances that are not secure. He will try to get the person to open the door and let him by intimidation and deception. We need to equip people how to RESIST his efforts. Secondly, the old territory that the enemy occupied must now be filled by the Holy Spirit and the old wounds and weaknesses must be filled up with TRUTH. That means the person needs to grow in their understanding of their IDENTITY in CHRIST, their POWER and AUTHORITY, as well as their DESTINY. Often times Inner Healing work must be addressed to expose existing lies and strengthen the inner person. 25

D. Resistance
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7-8 1. Our Enemy Has a Strategy (2 Cor 2:10-11) Eph 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on
the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 2 Cor 2:10-11 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven if there was anything to forgive I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. 1 Peter 5:8-9 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Strategies (1.) Deception- John 8:44-45 You belong to your father, the devil, and you
want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Twists Scripture to cause doubts (in the Garden with Eve) Steals the truth that was sown in peoples hearts (seed sown on path) Diminishes our view of Gods goodness and power. Leads us not to trust the Lord. Lies about our identity, sonship, power, authority, and inheritance.

(2)Intimidation and Fear: Heb 2:14-15 Intimidates us with fear of death (Heb 2:14-15) Deceives us into thinking we are powerless to drive him away Mocks us and our effort to resist him. Appears as a roaring lion (3) Accuses and condemns: Rev 12:10 Points out our faults and sins and accuses us to ourselves Points us away from the cross of Jesus to our own failures Tries to convince us that we are unqualified because of our failures. Tries to get us to live under the law.

2. Preparing Ourselves for Warfare Making Sure we are Right With God -James 4:7-10 Submit yourselves,
then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Putting on the Armor of God (Eph 6:10-18)


o o Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. (Not our power!) Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. (The goal of resisting is TO STAND YOUR GROUND. We do not

give up any territory that has been yielded to the Holy Spirit and the Lordship of Jesus. We have confidence that the devil will flee!)
o For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (We need to be aware of who the true enemy

isnot people).
o Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, (Once we put

our belt on, we never take it off. A commitment to TRUTH is imperative so that we are not deceived). with the breastplate of righteousness in place, (No matter what the enemy says, we have been declared righteous by our Fatherwe are NOT GUILTY).
with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

(This is one of our OFFENSIVE weapons. PEACE overcomes evil. We take peace and the gospel out with us wherever we go).
o take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (Faith has to do with our trusting relationship with Jesus.

No matter what the circumstances look like, He is Faithful, He is Good, He is for us, He will never leave us, we can prevail). o Take the helmet of salvation (Eliminate all fear of death or our future with the comfort to know we will be with God for all eternity and here and now He is working for our full and complete redemption body, soul, spirit). o the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (We read and meditate on the Scriptures that declare our Identity, our Authority and Power, our Destiny). o pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. (Prayer changes the world. Worship, intercede, confess, give thanks, cry out, proclaim, declare, utilize tongues, pray in your closet and pray with the body. There is power in prayer).

Exercise the Word of Command - Matt 4:10 Jesus said to him, "Away from
me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'

E. Yielding to and Being Filled with the Holy Spirit


Matt 12:43-45
"When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."

After a person has confessed and repented in any area where they had been in agreement with the enemy and had submitted to bondage or a strongholdand after they have renounced the enemy, evicted his presence from their life and closed all doors Then the person needs to fill the area up with the Presence of the Spirit who will now rule and bring the kingdom of God in that area of the persons life. They must begin to live in the opposite Spirit from which they were in previously operating.
He who hs been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Eph 4:28

The person goes from stealingto workingto giving away! 1. Pray for the Filling of the Holy Spirit
Eph 5:17-20 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are commanded to be continually filled with the Spirit. Anytime there is a breaking of a bondage or a tearing down of a stronghold, there is new area the Holy Spirit wants to fill. Have them pray something like.Holy Spirit I ask you to come and fill me up. I give you this area of my life that had to do with _______________(area of bondage). Bring me your freedom and truth in that area of my life. Reveal to me any more lies that might exist here. I give you dominion to rule this area of my life. I ask that you bring new power and life here. Fill me with your presence. Release to me any new gifts of the Spirit. Here I amcome Holy Spirit. Jesus said that if we asked the Father for good giftshow much more would he give the Holy Spirit to those who asked. I ask now in faithIn Jesus Name! Have the person give thanks and praise to the Lord for their new freedom and deliverance. Have them thank the Lord for any new

revelation. Let them spontaneously pray out in joy and thanksgiving for the work that the Holy Spirit did. 2. Pray for New Revelation of Truth to bring healing to the Inner Person Inner Healing is a work of God. He can supernaturally speak and reveal truth to people in deep places. When Jesus reveals something to someone it has a much greater impact than when we speak it out. Scripture confirms this reality in the following passages: o Eph 1:16-18 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my
prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, o

1 Cor 2:10-12 The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For
who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

Eph 3:16-19 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with
power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledgethat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

We come to Him as a child We can sit on his lap and talk to him about anything on our heart. Bring to Him our sin, our trigger behavior, our needs, our questions.

Listen quietly for the Lord to speakto bring to my mind a scripture, to whisper truth, to reveal a memory of a root wound affecting me. Pray through pertinent scriptures that address the presenting need our lives Have them make this a daily practice in letting the Holy Spirit renew their minds.

Part 3: Ten Step Process of Setting People Free


CRRRY Out is a great tool to use in the context of a Healing Encounter or while doing prayer ministry when you discern a stronghold in a persons life. You can easily move from praying for physical healing to setting a person free from bondage. At other times, you will be invited to come and help free a person who is known to be demonized at one level or another. You might find a person who is very calm yet knows they have one or more areas that plague them or you can find a person manifesting physically or verbally. In that setting, we want to give some other practices and additional approaches on how to handle that situation. These steps have been taken primarily from materials developed by Pablo Bottari and modified by Randy Clark. 1. Give the individual priority All things should be done in a way that honors and respects the individual. Sometimes you will discern a stronghold without a major manifestation from the enemy. The ministry time can be done quietly, in your group without causing any distraction or embarrassing the individual. If there is a lot of resistance move to a quieter and private location where ministry can be continued or reschedule with the individual for a more suitable time. They have probably had the problem for quite a while and a few more hours or days before ministry can be scheduled should not be a problem. 2. If a spirit manifests, take authority and make it quiet. This does not require shouting or yellingjust firm a command for the spirit to be silenced. Bind the spirit, keep it from speaking or embarrassing the person in any way. Dont be surprised if the spirit resists or after of time of being quiet begins to be disruptive again. Be firm, use your authority to silence the spirit. 3. Establish and maintain communication with the person. Sometimes you will need to get direct communication back with the person. Call them by name and tell them to look at you. You want their participation and cooperation.

Our desire and aim is not to do the deliverance on the


person but lead them to take their authority in Christ and deliver themselves by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our goal is that they would learn the process we are using so that they can do self-deliverances in the future if more areas are exposedthey can learn to walk out their deliverance with greater levels of confidenceand that they might be able to minister and serve others in like fashion in the future. 4. Ask the person what (s)he wants deliverance from. We need to engage their will in the process. Sometimes some area will be exposed during the prayer ministry time for healing. They might share something about their background that you discern could be an open door for the demonic. As you talk to them about possible strongholds and their impact on their lives, you want them to be totally willing to find freedom. You cant want their freedom more than they do. Sometimes they will identify the symptoms they have been experiencing and you share with them the door that is open or the territory that they enemy may have. If they say they dont want prayer for deliverance in a certain area then we abide by their wishes. Dont force the person to do anything against their will. 5. Make sure the person has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. If they are not a follower of Jesus explain to them We can evict the demonic from their life They would not be able keep the demonic out of their life. The likelihood is that the demon would come back and bring more with it. Their final condition would likely be worse than now. Explain that without their following Jesus and having the power of the Holy Spirit, they would have no power to stay free. Ask them if they would like to begin a relationship with Jesus. Explain what that means If they are interested, lead them into a covenant relationship with Jesus where they confess their sinsrepent of their pastthank Jesus for His death on the cross where he paid fully for their guilthave them commit themselves to the Lord, to put their trust in His Leadership and to love, follow and obey His leading. 32

If they do not want to follow Jesusthen pray a blessing on


them and end the session. 6. Interview the person to find out what events, sins, traumas, or past relationships have opened doors for the current bondages to occur. Look for the following: Occult activity or participation in other religions Unforgiveness towards those who have deeply wronged them. Past traumas from early childhood Addictive behaviors or continuous sins in which they have indulged Generational sin from their lineage Curses, soul ties, inner vows 7. Lead the person through either Forgiveness or CRRRY Out Re-establishing their authority by either extending forgiveness or by confession/Repentance the person has now come to a new place of authority over the demonic and bondage. They have defeated the armor that the enemy was relying on. Renunciation This is a declaration to the spiritual forces that they are now breaking off all allegiances that were formally in place. Have them make these declarations and you agree with them. In many cases you will need to give them the language that they repeat after you. After renouncing the enemy, have them close every door that had open. 8. Cast out the unclean spirits in Jesus name. At this point they can now EVICT the spirits from their lives. Have them tell the spirits to leave and not come back. Agree with them in prayer. 9. Have the person thank Jesus for their deliverance. If they have difficulty here, there still may be other doors or territory that the enemy has taken that still need to be addressed. Return to Step 6 to discern what area still needs ministry. 10. Have the person ask the Holy Spirit to fill all areas previously occupied by the enemy.

Spiritual Inventory Assignment


We want to expose ourselves to the Word of God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us any areas where we are in DENIAL, where we have SECRETS, or just areas that are HIDDEN. We want to take an inventory of any sins or faults that we have not yet admitted, agreed with God about and confessed. We then want to tear down any bondages or strongholds that could exist in these areas. First: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any area of sin or open door in your life. Sit and listen and let Him Speak to you. Write down the areas in the space below:

Second: Write down any area in your life where you have seen and experienced either demonic activity or a stronghold.

Third: Ask the Holy Spirit to use the Word as a sword to reveal any area of sin in your life. Make an inventory at the end of the Scriptures of any area He reveals.

Eph 4:25-32 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Do you lie? Do you exaggerate or stretch the truth? Do you withhold information in order to deceive? Do you use flattery to manipulate others? Have you withheld from speaking the truth when God wanted you to speak it? Do you lie to yourself about your own issues? 26 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. Do you quarrel, argue or engage in heated discussions? Are you engaged in any divisions or factions? Do you complain or find fault? Do you have a critical spirit toward any person or thing? Are you irritable or cranky? Do you ever carry hidden anger? Do you have outbursts of anger? Do you use anger to manipulate, intimidate, control or punish others? Do you become impatient with others? Are you harsh, unkind, or sarcastic? 34

28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do you underpay? Do you put forth little effort in your work? Have you been careless in the payment of your debts? Do you overuse credit rather than wait on God to provide for you? Do you waste time? Do you waste time for others? Have you kept money that was not yours to keep? Have you stolen someone elses work and taken credit for it? Do you shop lift? Do you steward the resources God has given you: time, treasures or talents? Do you pay the taxes you owe? Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Are you harsh, unkind, or sarcastic? Do you grumble or gossip? Do you speak unkindly concerning people when they are not present? Do you complain, whine, or speak critical of others? Are you verbally abusive? Do you use foul language? Do you ridicule others? Do you tell dirty jokes? 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Is there anyone against whom you hold a grudge? Anyone you havent forgiven? Anyone you hate? Anyone you refuse to love? Are there any misunderstandings that you are unwilling to forget? Is there any person against whom you are harboring bitterness, resentment, or jealousy? Anyone you dislike to hear praised? Do you allow anything to justify wrong attitudes toward others? Are there any relationships that need to be reconciled that you have been unwilling to work at? Are you secretly pleased over the misfortune of another? Are you secretly annoyed over the accomplishments or advancement of another? Gal 5:19-26 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Are you careless with your body? Do you fail to care for it as the temple of the Holy Spirit? Are you guilty of overindulgence in eating or drinking? 35

Do you use drugs, alcohol, sex, food, gambling, work, video games or any other habit to medicate your pain or as a coping mechanism? Do you have any habits that are defiling to the body? Do you brag of what you have done rather than what Christ has done? Have you made a pretense of being something that you are not? Are you self-conscious rather than Christ-conscious? Do you have personal habits that are not pure? Do you look at inappropriate magazines, videos, web sites? Do you go to bars or strip joints looking for pleasure? Do you allow impure thoughts about the opposite sex to stay in your mind? Do you read material which is impure or suggest unholy things? Do you indulge in entertainment that is unclean? Are you guilty of the lustful look? Are you prejudiced against other Christians because they are of some other group of because they do not see everything as you do? Do you find yourself daydreaming where you are the hero and everyone praises you? Do you think of yourself as better than others? Do you show favoritism towards the wealthy or others because of social status? Is your manner of dress pleasing to God?

Ex 20:2-17 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before me. Is there anything in which you have failed to put God first? Have your decisions been made after your own wisdom and desires, rather than seeking and following Gods will? Do any of the following interfere with your surrender and service to God: ambitions, pleasures, loved ones, friendships, desire for recognition, money, your own plans? Are you more concerned about what people will think, than what will be pleasing to God? Are you bound to anything addictive to meet your needs other than allow God to meet those needs? Have you participated in witchcraft, magic, or New Age religions?
