Session 5
Be a Dreamer Dream Big! God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or dream, according to His power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20 God places within our heart hopes and dreams that He wants to fulfill for us. A dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it. (John Maxwell) The life of Joseph is an example for us to look at, to help us to realize how we can see all of our extraordinary dreams, hopes and desires become reality.
Genesis 37:1-5 1. God wants us to dream big dreams a. Joseph was a dreamer (verse 5) b. If youve given up on dreams, its time to dream again c. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but where dreams come true, there is life and joy. (Proverbs 13:12) d. WE have been given the capacity to dream and more importantly, to dream with God. Many believers discount their desires, automatically trying to get rid of everything they want in order to prove their surrender to God. (Bill Johnson, Dreaming With God) 2. To dream extraordinary dreams, we must know the extraordinary love of God (verse 3) a. If we dont believe God has our best interests at heart, we wont dream big dreams. 3. Even if our dream is from the Lord, there will be opposition (verse 5) a. Joseph was hated and taunted by his brothers and rebuked by his father for his dreams. b. Dont let someone elses disapproval or jealousy hinder you from dreaming
Overcoming adversity to achieve our dreams 1. Providence (Genesis 39:1-5) a. Twice Moses emphasizes one of the keys to Josephs success: The Lord was with Joseph; this speaks of Gods Providence b. Joseph had a major part in his dream being fulfilled; he remained faithful to God. 2. Integrity (Genesis 39:6-10) a. God blessed and gave favor to Joseph b. He refused to compromise his moral and ethical principles 3. Endurance (Genesis 39:11-20) a. Joseph withstood and overcame hardship and adversity
