What is an Organizational Hierarchy for Retail Assortment

An organizational hierarchy is a tree hierarchy based on internal organizations including legal entities, operating units, and teams. You can set up a hierarchy for the purpose of retail assortment based on retail channels which is a sub-type of operating unit.

Above is an example of organizational hierarchy for retail assortment (a.k.a. assortment hierarchy). On the top, the root node is a legal entity CEU, which links to a few business units, which further link to individual retail stores or online channels. When a product is assortment to a parent node (e.g. Online Stores business unit), the product is automatically assorted to all its children nodes (e.g. OOB Store Front online store).

How to: Create an Organizational Hierarchy for Retail Assortment

In order to create an assortment, you must first create an organizational hierarchy for retail assortment. 1. Open the organization hierarchy list page by clicking on Organization administration > Common > Organizations > Organization hierarchies.

2. Click Organization hierarchy new button.

3. Specify the Name, e.g. My assortment hierarchy 4. Assign assortment purpose to the hierarchy: a. Click Assign purpose button to open the Organization hierarchy purpose form;

b. Select Retail assortment from the Purposes list; c. Click Add button; d. Select the assortment hierarchy (e.g. My assortment hierarchy) that we just created from the Organization hierarchies list, and click OK; e. Click Close to save the purpose.

Click Close again to save the assortment hierarchy.

5. Add organizations to the hierarchy: a. Select your assortment hierarchy (e.g. My assortment hierarchy) from the organization hierarchy list. b. Click Organization hierarchy view button to open the Hierarchy Designer.

c. Click Edit. d. Click Insert and select Legal entity.

e. Select one legal entity from the Legal entity (e.g. CEU) and click OK. The legal entity is added to the hierarchy designer.

Select the top node (e.g. CEU), click Insert and select Retail channel to add a child node. g. Select one retail channel (e.g. OOB Store Front) and click OK.

h. You can repeat the steps and add more nodes into the hierarchy. i. When you finish building the hierarchy, click Publish and close button, specify Effective date and Time zone, and then click Publish. j. Your assortment hierarchy is published and ready for assortments.
