Brumowski,was 5'9-10. Keith, Oblt.Stefan Brumowski,Flik55J Feldwebel,Otto Mauser-Ishmael's Historical War

I think Boelcke was about 5'6" (from what I understand). Other favorite aces: McCudden about 5'6"5'8" and as for Mannock, I don't know his exact height but I think he was pretty close to 6'. Amy

I think that my man is the champ of the shorties. Read the aces section on B-P (Andrew not Anthony) he was only 5'2". VBR Vic __________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy - Benjamin Franklin

Add Post To Favorites #5 (permalink) Thanks for all of the replys. It's pretty akward for me a 13 year old to be taller then many of the aces! Keith,

People at the turn of the century were generally much shorter than they are now. I have just read that Tommy Burns, the Canadian who won the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship in 1906, was only 5'7 and weighed only 172. He would only be a middleweight by today's standards. If a guy that small was a `heavyweight' boxer, you've gotta know people were shorter back then.

Add Post To Favorites #8 (permalink) For what it's worth, the comments that pilots were shorter is right on target. I own several uniforms, flying coats, etc., from both sides and they are almost uniformly small by todays standards. All but one fit on "adolescent" mannequins. The one flying coat that fits on an adult mannequin is an oddity and even it would have been too small for anyone over about 5'9" tall. And it would have been intended to be "oversized" in order to fit over the uniform, longjohns, etc. Also remember that many of them really WERE adolescents. No way I could fit into my old cadet uniform from when I was 18 to 21 (And the problems would not ALL be related to increased girth--I'm at least two inches taller now.) __________________ Minuteman III, when you care enough to send the very best!
