Its all photoshop. I actually didnt use the textures I shot yesterday. First I make a suitable brush via the bush editor and a shape I created earlier. Then I make large image with a linen base ..created earlier...and I make a layer, select brush, set size to 400 or so and start to paint . My pen allows me to control flow so I can thin the paint as I go. This simulates the paint running out. Next I scale down my streaks and apply a little motion blur,,,you could do this by hand via the smudge tool but why waste your time.

1920s R A F WW1 Handley Page O/100 $5.72

Then I apply one more layer on top. Its basically a thin copy of the linen but with the contrast set real high. This kind of gives me a specular channel to play with. This technique is great. Only 3 steps really. Easy to reproduce later too. I think with some dirt these will do. Now maybe some work on the colors. __________________ Tea Party Patriotism = Backward Easy Thinking

Hi Tim, we work almost the same way. Hope you have seen my work. Motion blur is very good and I don't use smudge at all. The key point is brush. There is in Photoshop few of them which could be managed to get good working effect. One thing I will recommend you- when finish the streaky scheme make copy of this into the new layer and add noise. Then set behaviors on layer to be Overlay, Screen or try any other and reduce visibility of this layer copy. This will give great effect in the fabric texture. __________________ Srecko Bradic Owner: www.Letletlet-warplanes.com Owner: www.Letletlet-warplanes.com/forum Owner: www.sreckobradic.com Email: srecko.warplane@gmail.com Skype: sreckobradic Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/LetLet...s/308234397758

One thing I'd do would be to put on slightly more paint than is needed, and then use the Eraser tool. If you set it to be quite opaque, perhaps using the same brush that you usd to make the streaks, it may give a better result. I say this only as streaking can be tricky, and sometimes what you take away is just as important as what you add __________________ The Virtual Aircraft Website

Jerry, Hi thanks for your thoughts. The overpaint idea is a good one. Works good for dirt maps too. More for less right Sreiko, Good ideas indeed. Usually that is how I add dirt and junk. Almost always there is a use of multiple layers just to get one effect. Here is the latest streak test..... and a close up... Needs a wee bit more tweaking but I think this will be a good match. So, what about color?? __________________ Tea Party Patriotism = Backward Easy Thinking

Tim, In regards to colors, I would try Dan Abbott's recommendations on his Metheun matches. I provided an RGB sample for a quick try, or a printed sample that I could send you later. For the Triplane the spread of color is: Olive Yellow - 3D8 (146/147/46) Inter' Olive Brown - 4F5-6 (75/73/34) Dark Olive Brown - 4F8 (67/68/14) I have Dan's Metheun values for the "green" streaks (early Fok D7), but I don't have them matched to CMYK or RGB yet Jan

Jan, Here is what I got when I plugged in your values. Yours are 1 (3D8) , 2 (4F5) and 3 (4F8). The others are cmyk conversions for the same values....4f8 and 4F5. Included is blue 25c5. Please disregard the biege color on the right. Not sure what that is!

Are these close to what you get? Thanks for help ..... Everyone, please pick your favorite match. Thanks for playing.! __________________ Tea Party Patriotism = Backward Easy Thinking

Tim, Okay, using RGB files is very hard to interpret on the web. What you see here is just one page of my color book that I composed 2 years ago, that complement's Dan Abbott's WWI Aero article (a copy of it is here). I adjusted my printed CMYK values to the respective Methuen color chip. This took a lot of time, let me tell you. So, do what what you can with the values. You really need printed material to match colors accurately.

I feel your pain. I did the same for VVS and USAAF colors. Since I dont have a copy of the Methuen , I do a lot on cross referencing of many sources and the help of people like you and other formites here. I know monitors unless calibrated are not a good source for color. Here it seems our samples are close. A shade are two apart. Great job on the rgb.

So would the colors have been that broad in color? Or was the color consistent enough that one sample is good enough? __________________ Tea Party Patriotism = Backward Easy Thinking

Tim: I would recommend that you use about half of the area is light, a quarter intermediate and a quarter dark interspaced with the light streaking. Each Fok.DR.I has its own "finger-print" and follow the patterns for that specific DR.I. They were all different[/COLORS and patterns] Your first example is too dark. Your second examples is closer to the correct appearance, possibly a little lighter. Study the photos of the DR.I you are going to paint, and stay within their specific patterns. It takes me two days to do a water color three view, one stroke at a time with a 00 brush. Very tedious. You will also find the paintes patterns. Blue skies, Dan-San
