THE EDANZ JOURNAL ADVISOR PLATORM THE VISION

Summary There is a large vacuum in STM publishing because of the lack of independent author-centric platforms and services. It is particularly acute for the rapidly growing emerging markets where scientist/authors have a difficult time preparing manuscripts and getting them accepted for publication. There is also a massive gap in understanding between publishers and authors in these markets. Therefore, there is a strong need for an easy-to-use suite of tools that will help authors meet their publication goals. Journal Advisor will fill this vacuum by providing authors with tools for achieving publication success and saving time in the manuscript preparation and submission process. JA will also serve as a champion for authors, who are the generators of the valuable content that publishers then cut and slice into various products. JA will give authors a voice. For the STM publishing community JA will be a source of market insight; while it will initially be disruptive, it will provide marketing and branding opportunities for those partnering with it. JA will comprise "tools to facilitate publication" by creating a killer-app group for author publication success. There are many possibilities for monetizing JA. A strength is that traffic can already be monetized by a well-established business model - Edanz services for author success such as language editing. Because of its author-centric and digital character, JA will be well placed to evolve alongside disruptions in the STM publishing ecosystem, whether they are digitization, a move towards Open Access, changes in metrics, or even changes in the nature of the research funding driving the industry. Aims

! ! ! ! ! !

Provide an industry leading suite of tools for authors to select and submit to STM journals; make the entire manuscript preparation/submission process as easy as possible Generate revenue by driving traffic to existing Edanz Group websites Create a community built around publication success, and gather useful/marketable data from that community Create a platform that will have strong SEO and dominate search for keywords/phrases that scientific authors are likely to use at various stages in the publication process Appeal to publishers by having a demonstrable power-base in terms of our relationship with authors Initial focus will be on non-Western and emerging markets (China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Turkey, Russia, Southern/Eastern Europe) where scientist/authors are not native speakers of English. It is these regions where there is the greatest need for publication support, and the largest gap between authors and publishers. Second focus will be on the use of the platform by scientists in established markets. It is obvious that he application of JA technologies and tools will make manuscript submission easier for all authors, everywhere and at all levels of the scientific community. . Be a conduit between authors and publishers and provide publishers and journals with: " The ability to communicate with authors
