TABLE OF CONTENTS 1.0 SCOPE

This design guide1, establishes the procedure for sizing block and bypass valves for control valve manifolds. 2.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

The process engineer determines and indicates the sizes of block and bypass valves on the piping and instrumentation diagram (P&I !. This should be done early to facilitate the ordering of these items. The instrumentation and controls engineer is responsible for calculating and providing the valve sizing coefficient (" v! of the control valve from information provided by the process engineer. 3.0 3.1 PROCEDURE Block Valv ! #lock valves for control valves shall meet the follo$ing re%uirements& 1. 'ull line size block valves are re%uired for the follo$ing special cases& a. 'lashing li%uid service( do$nstream block valve only b. )ravity flo$ $ith small control valve differential c. *igh pressure drop $here cavitation could occur( do$nstream block valve only d. "ontrol valve is line size +. 'or volume increase due to gas e,pansion, the do$nstream block valve may need to be larger than the upstream block if there is a line size change. -.
