Subject Title : Industrial Instrumentation (Elective-II) Subject Code : 9184 Teaching and Examination Scheme: Teaching Scheme TH 03 TU -PR 02 PAPER HRS. 03 TH 80 Examination Scheme TEST 20 PR -OR 25# TW 25@ TOTAL 150
Rationale: Number of components are used in chemical process industries for automation; both in the field and in the control room. It is essential for a diploma engineer to have a thorough knowledge of these components from calibration, testing and maintenance point of view. Automation is becoming increasingly important in all walks of life and has opened new prospects of job employment. The subject, classified as elective under Instrumentation covers all such automation applications, conventional and advanced sensors used for this purpose. The topic- Project engineering is also covered so that the diploma engineer does not feel handicapped while interpreting the documentation for new plant is done or if existing plant is to be expanded. Objectives: The Students will be able to: 1) Be able to identify various control system components and will be able to test and calibrate them. 2) Understand the automation requirements of chemical industries and construction industry in particular. 3) Be able to interpret process flow diagrams, will be able to prepare documents required in projects (New or Expansion)
Learning Structure:
Application
Test, calibrate and maintain various industrial components and advanced sensors used in automation. Also interpret and understand the documentation requirements of chemical process industry
Procedure
Draw the constructional diagram and observe the principle of operation of control components.
Study the characteristics of various sensors used in automation and study the process as a whole.
Prepare instrument index & specification sheet for instruments available in the lab
