The present progressive verb tense is used to describe what is happening now or something that is planned for the near future. For example: I am playing now. I am playing basketball tonight. She is swimming now. We are surfing tomorrow. To be + verb + -ing ending I am playing

Stative verbs describe feelings or situations that continue over a period of time. Examples: to like, to love, to hate, to want, and to need. They usually do NOT take the present progressive -ing endings.

Use two small boxes. Cut out the words below. Put all of the vocabulary words in one box. In the other box, place the infinitive verbs. Choose one vocabulary word and one infinitive. Write a sentence using both words. You can play this game in a group or on your own. Have the first person begin by choosing one word from each box. Then, use the words in a sentence using the present progressive. For example: Playbat. I am playing baseball with an old bat. Some of the combinations may make funny sentences.
