The overall 3MT" architecture and 3T/.' architectures are described in *7.8+, G8H and *7.8,+ G7H. >or clarity and ease of understandin - at appropriate places references to T/=+9< G:H and associated methods are described briefly althou h they are beyond the scope of this specification. The reference model shown in >i ure 8.,=, below contains the networ# elements that ma#e up the A'0 access networ#. There is one=to=many relationship between A'0=GB and A'0(s).

&i#ure '()*)( +uh reference model( The A'0 GB serves the purpose of a /'1 presentin itself to the 1' as a concentrator of A'0 connections. The &u interface between the 1' and the A'0=GB serves the same purpose as the interface between the 1' and a /'1. One A'0 serves only one cell. 'OT2C The "ecurity ateway is a lo ically separated entity and may be implemented either as a separate physical element or inte rated into- for e(ample- a A'0=GB.

The A'0 access networ# includes the functional entities as shown in >i ure 8.,=, and detailed below.

The 3T/.' functions in the A'0 are supported by /.'.P- whereas the A'0 specific functions are supported by the Aome 'ode0 .pplication Protocol (A'0.P) between the A'0 and the A'0 GB. The A'0 GB provides a concentration function for the control plane and may provide a concentration function for the user plane. This sub=clause defines the functional split between the core networ# and the 3MT" radio access networ#. The functional split is shown in table 8.*=, and 8.*=*
